Most well-known serial killers have victims numbering in the dozens, have sent taunting letters to the police or have done bizarre things to the bodies.

All serial killers want to win. They choose victims they can kill successfully.
Underground Killers
They kill for a reason
They'll strike anyone
Doesn't matter how old or young
Pay 'em big cash, they'll give 'em a slash
Explain how it should be done
A shot in the head
The man cut in half
Tortured 'till death
You'll never see him back
CHORUS
Underground killers
They are everywhere
Killing for money
They don't care
Leaving their victims covered with blood
Underground killers
Will make a mess
Whose killing plans have been set
Murdering their victims without mercy
They promise to make it worse
Tell 'em their next mission
And they'll give 'em death
Burn him alive
A high voltage jolt
A stab in the back
They promise you'll see him dead
Slay the victim to death
Dead bodies everywhere
Brutality is their authority
Killers are not afraid of death
CHORUS
Underground killers
They are everywhere
Killing for money
They don't care
Leaving their victims covered with blood
Underground killers
Will make a mess
Whose killing plans have been set
Murdering their victims without mercy
They promise to make it worse
More massacre for the long future generation
Their customers are the only police source of information
You've paid 'em in full
For the dirty job they've done
Now you must die
Like the other ones

Nowadays, with much more racial and ethnic mixing, we are seeing serial killers murdering a variety of victims; whoever comes along will most likely do.
While there are many wonderful police investigators out there doing some very fine work, the majority of the time it is not brains that catches serial killers.
Serial killers kill for the power and control they experience during the murders and for the added ego boost they get in the aftermath from community fears, media coverage, and the police investigations.
While we are being fascinated by the tales of famous serial killers and how they were brought to justice, the real serial killer goes about his business with hardly a thought to being caught.
She's Taunting Me
She's taunting me by being online all the time
Taunting me by being bored and available
Taunting me because there is something insatiable
Some desire to talk to her, to know her, to show her a sign
Of my affection, a desire to fix things so that we can friends again
A desire to fix things so that maybe we can be more
A desire to fix things by speaking about the issues at the core
Of what happened, of what I did, of how sorry, regretful of that time when
I made a mistake and lost a helper, maybe even a friend
Did that damage I'm not sure if I can mend
But making things right again isn't enough
Even though I know things would be rough
I still want to be more, so stop taunting me!
Why are you always online? ! Why are you there! ? Can't you see?
This is hurting me because I still want you
That's why I did those things, yes those mistakes, Yea me the guy who
Normally is the leader or the one with a cool head
But I forgot what I knew
Cause I was blinded by my emotions, my love for you
That's why I said what I said
I'm sorry for what I did
I would have never been hard on you if not for my love
I would have never expected you to be more pure than a dove
I would have never slid
Backwards and forgotten my reason and wisdom
Sorry, sorry, and sorry again blame my affection
So please stop because you're taunting me
I wish to speak with you
I wish you'd speak with me too
You know I'd talk for hours, maybe then you'd see
That's why I did what I did, and I regret it, you're more important
You're the girl that I want
So either notice me and let's make things right
Or stop taunting me.... get out of my sight
Because I can't take it when you're around me and there's tension
I can't take it when you're there but we're not friends and I'm vilified
I'm not your enemy, but soon these emotions will have died
I want to be more to you, I want you to dropp the aversion
To me, dropp your walls and let me back in
I'm sorry for my sin
So please either stop taunting me or turn and walk away
I can't take you, you're too much for me, I can't help but want you
I can't help but know, that you don't want me too
I'm not dumb... so stop the torture, she's taunting me, taunting me how fey
She's taunting me, taunting me again.

I read a book recently by a psychiatrist who was able to interview a few serial killers and she had a thesis on how you could figure these people out. And she thinks that there are things that could tell you whether someone has the potential to do that.
Sweet Odours Of A New Palace
For a few minutes we pack for the journey named no more
By our successes, and life revolves around violas and violins.
The musicians have a stigma, the revolutionists cause mayhem
In their dozens of parlours, when secret script delivers its ridicule.
I have hours of misfortune inside my soul that has letters and food
Handfed by serial killers and I am now aghast at the burgeoning mayors.
The cities bespoke a merciful message that pursued logic after logic,
Only from economies that ran anew, from the devastations of slayers.
Inside the committee a new palace diverged into our minds that spoke on the topic,
For the mirrors kicked our bellies afterwards, from too much darkness and energy.
A wave is not a suitable partner for another wave, for swinging among the geography
Creates a six-day religion of created beings who surpass the men in the supreme quarters.
For a booth contains a hue that awoke for us to keep our tunics and shields,
To fight with a sweet odour, as the cavalry of the life we lead has passed us by.

We assume people we know can't be serial killers.
In reality, serial killers are of average intelligence.
There are many more serial killers living outside the prison walls than inside.
Outside of dumb luck, the number one way serial killers are caught is through the help of the public.
I got to read some writings by serial killers, and they got inside my head. They were quite disturbing. I read disturbing stuff about that very detached way of manipulating people to do things.

Killers
A man took an ad on T.V.
To enrol in the police academy
He's very talented, outstanding proof
From his clean-cut apperance to the shine on his boots
When it comes to graduation, he's number one
An expert with a rifal and also a gun
Three weeks on the beat and his weak nerves crack
And fires four warning shots into a kid's back
KILLERS! these are the killers
KILLERS! the coldhearted killers
KILLERS! bloodthirsty killers
KILLERS! beware of the killers
A young girl marries an older man
With more money than you can understand
He smouthers her with pearls and jewellery
And they both seemed as happy as they could be
But three months later, she's sad but content
Seems he had an unexpected accident
The girl said he would be hard to forget
As the papers interviewed her while she flew his jet
KILLERS! these are the killers
KILLERS! she was the killers
KILLERS! the coldhearted killers
KILLERS! beware of the killers
It's time for all to work together for peace
'Cause everybody's doomed if the killings don't cease
Street homicide, war, it's all the same
'Cause murder is murder by any name
An young man loses his only job
To proud to hustle, too honest to rob
He goes to tell his family an his wife
But an argument breaks out, she grabs a knife
Tempers esculate to a total rage
Shots burst out from a loaded twelve-guage
They call it mass murder, suicide
BUT SOMEBODY TELL ME WHY THE KIDS HAD TO DIE
KILLERS! these are the killers
KILLERS! the coldhearted killers
KILLERS! bloodthirsty killers
KILLERS! beware of the killers
Vietnam vet, home from the war
Can't get a job in a candy store
Unemployment hurts and he's living proof
So to take out his frustration, he climbs on the roof
He shows no pity as victims are shot
The only thing to stop him are the bullets from SWAT
Ten people died on a sunny day
BUT TELL ME WHO TAUGHT HIM HOW TO SHOOT THAT WAY
KILLERS! these are the killers
KILLERS! you know the killers
KILLERS! beware of the killers
KILLERS! are you a killer?
It's time for all to work together for peace
'Cause everybody's doomed if the killings don't cease
Street homicide, war, it's all the same
'Cause murder is murder by any name
A known criminal is sentenced to death
Now the legal system controls his last breath
He tries to fight execution with petitions and pleas
And a pardon from the governor is all he needs
He cries out for mercy but nothing's spared
And on his day of termination, he's strapped in a chair
High voltage fills his body in a ...... jail
And all of the people of vengeance grail
KILLERS! the coldhearted killers
KILLERS! bloodthirsty killers
KILLERS! the mercilous killers
KILLERS! are you a killer?
Georgie-Porgie-Pudding-and-pie
Couldn't get a girl, let me tell you all why
He tried to be down like all the rest
Had girls in his hair, gold on his chest
He rolled around town in a coup deville
But he had no money, he was broke as hell
Ladies love money and he needed more
So he tried to steal something out a liquor store
But before Georgie-Porgie could get away
The man pulled out his gun and blew him away
KILLERS! the coldhearted killers
KILLERS! are you a killer?
KILLERS! the mercilous killers
KILLERS! beware of the killers
It's time for all to work together for peace
'Cause everybody's doomed if the killings don't cease
Street homicide, war, it's all the same
'Cause murder is murder by any name
Politicians plan for power eacha nd every day
We are all just puppets in the games they play
They manipulate the message to attain their goals
And for simple re-election they will sell their souls
Nuclear supremacy is the ultimate thrill
So our tax we pay is paid for overkill
...................... up to the skies
WHILE WE ALL PRAY TO GOD THE MISSILES NEVER FLY
KILLERS! these are the killers
KILLERS! they are the killers
KILLERS! are you a killer?
KILLERS! don't be a killer
It's time for all to work together for peace
'Cause everybody's doomed if the killings don't cease
Street homicide, war, it's all the same
'Cause murder is murder by any name

Police are reluctant to label a murder as a possible serial homicide.
The one noticeable similarity with almost all serial killer victims is their short height and low weight.
Serial killers are everywhere! Well, perhaps not in our neighborhood, but on our television screens, at the movie theatres, and in rows and rows of books at our local Borders or Barnes and Noble Booksellers.
