I drew a picture on the back of a calendar in pencil. In those days they used to give out free calendars, I had no art paper, so I took whatever else I could.

Camera vs, Pencil

Exactly same and true
Picture of objects wonderful
The magical instrument
Captures the real image

But real things become still
Logics, camera can't fill
Images, camera only captures
Pencil gives birth to a picture

The sketches drawn by pencil
Speak and make you feel
Not only liveliness of the object
But compels one too, to interpret

Camera can't take image of soul
Pencil draws sketch of in and out
camera and pencil's combination
can fetch reality, feel and imagination

Sometimes There Is Goo And No Gah

Love is not all goo and gah.
Sometimes there is goo and no gah,
And lots of...
Ugh! Geeessshhh.

Especially that day when one awakens,
To look at a calendar.
Not any calendar!
The one the days have been checked off.
With a little note as a reminder...
'I survived.
How many more of these,
'For Better or For Worse' days I've got to deal with? '

But hang in there.
Some folks are just in it for the wedding ceremony.
After that...
Many more are looking for something else to do.
And finding someone else to do it with too!

~I thought you said you were divorced? ~

And...
Your point is what?
Don't let my youthful glow...
Trouble free lifestyle and happiness fool you.
I have had those days when I overcook my scrambled eggs.
Seriously.

And just the other day,
I abruptly had to end listening to my favorite music.
I ran out of Green Tea.
And I was just at the store.

Puzzling

Calendar with days marked off…
Final day checked…
in blood-red ink marker mean
Then… no more marks…of any sort
The calendar antiseptically… cryptically clean…
Time seemingly now, no longer of import
What was coming, so anticipated…(Or dreaded) …
That the days after… the anointed day

Seemed of no consequence imbedded
Calendar yellowed and tattered
As if time no longer existed…
To a person… like you or me
And to whom days… no longer mattered
Then…Now…and for eternity

Ode to Pencils

Pencil o pencil
What would i use to trace the stencil
Possibly crayon, marker, or a pen
Unfortunately they are back in the den
Could i use a pencil with color
They might be much taller
So thanks for the pencil to be born
It is easier to draw when there aren't torn
That is my ode
I hope you thought it flowed

Utencils

Pencil, pen, charcoal, graphite, i can use whatever utencil
I want to write ' rhymes so slick'
I could write a lymric in skilcraft or a sonnet with bic
And if you want to learn how come close, Ill show ya
This is the beginners lesson, grab yourself a #2 ticonderoga
get your piece of paper, some lines to lay on
Maybe at the end draw a picture with your favorite colour crayon
You see im an artist, what i do is compose art
My first set of colored pencils: 12 pack of roseart
But no matter the tool, graphite charcoal pen or pencil
Ill try to make art with any utencil

Middle of Madness

I can hear every tick of the clock.
My body is showered from nervous sweat.
Oh no my pencil tip broke,
and I must stop to sharpen it;
all the while losing time.
My mind has gone as blank
as the paper which I’m writing on.
Tick – Tock goes the clock as time moves on.
Times up the voice shots;
My hand goes limp and my pencil falls to
rest upon the edge of the paper.
I let out a big sigh of relief, for the madness has subside,
For my mid-terms are done.

Paper

Paper promises, Dunstead said,
paper cups, wallpaper being stuck

up on the wall for the next to last
time, paper tigers, paper to wipe

the ass and best of all paper to
create art, to have it from the heart,

to see it out there, being gazed at,
studied by some bearded guy with

glasses and paper money to buy
the next paper to create and then

if I’m lucky the muse turning up on
time and giving me the big nudge

in the right direction or some paper
picture of some nude dame giving

the long time wished for erection.

Unmatched Beauty

With no pencil, paper or brush in hand
The Lord has painted a picture for every man
Everything upon the earth
Came alive with every stroke
Of His mighty hand
For no one on earth can copy His work
For He is the master, the author of the book

The worst thing you can do is censor yourself as the pencil hits the paper. You must not edit until you get it all on paper. If you can put everything down, stream-of-consciousness, you'll do yourself a service.

Broken

You can close your eyes
And see a picture perfect life
Inside of your mind
Dreaming only of the days ahead
Wanted and wished for more than now
Or the days behind
You waste your time
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
You can never think
You cant even stop yourself
Before the words have been spoken
And youve already said
You would give everything
And something for nothing
Everybody thinks youre joking
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
You want to be the one
Made over be your own
Before and after
And a supermarket
Beauty in a bottle queen
Wholl one day grace a check-out counter
Magazine front cover
Though the fine print reads
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Broken
Broken
When your life is never what you wanted
Not even halfway normal
Just tarnished and soiled
When in your reach
A framed and frozen moment
So far from perfection
Not truth or transcendence
Will set you free
Still you dont believe
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken

Tangerine

Some days I feel tangerine
Some days I feel blue
Some days I just wanna back out of the thing I feel for you
And even though I take your picture everywhere I go,
I use it for a coaster and drink the overflow
Some days I make a lot of money and give it all away
To take my mind off the tangerine colour of your negligee
Beggers cant be choosey if they dont know how to serve
Youve got a different phone number and a lot of nerve
Some days I feel tangerine
Some days I miss you too

Lead Pencil Reflections

Lead on O graphite lead.
Explain your thoughts to me
As on the paper we
Dance on, dot, dash ahead.
Pencil to paper wed
Eternally may free
New versions constantly –
Creations scarcely read?
In moments, trammels shed,
Life sparkles inwardly,
Poetic harmony
Line after line is fed
As on thought waves we’re sped.
Yet with sense, form, in key
Enlightenment we see
Responding, sharing spread...

Counting The Days

Counting the days on the calendar
Strange how they bleed into each other
All that I need
Is a day with you
Pencil me in on your Saturday
Taking my leave
Should I be waylaid please wait for me

On a day with you
Maybe for now an hour will do
Remember my dear this time last year
The sunsets were late and the days were long
And the nights were filled with song
The nights were filled with song

Strolling the street we're strangely complete
Let's stay awake till the morning comes
We don't need anyone
We don't need anyone

Wasting my life at the traffic lights
Getting nowhere
Trapped in the turnstiles
Stay within reach
Of a day with you
Maybe for now and hour will do

A Picture Of Me

i can easily draw
myself
if i have a pencil and a paper
i could have easily given you a picture of me,
i have the eyes of a Chinese immigrant
my eyelids thicker than the bush that
you always trim along the fence
my lips are thin like the petals
of a rose
some men mistake them
for that of a woman's
but that will be so much of a misleading
fact like the direction of the road
that they changed days ago
some visitors have gone astray.
i am still in the middle of this journey
so my cheeks are smooth with only a few
scratches like the one that you see
when the cat scratches the wall
of the kitchen when it gets hungry
and shouts and yet you do not really mind at all.
my face is black and white
nothing gray
there is no color like a landscape of
fields and pathways.
you have seen me once but you never recognize
me because you relied more on the picture i had
on the poems that you read.
i like to see myself
less the distortions of the modern abstract art.
But i am more of the Gothic
Grecian-roman eclectic type.
You see you want to put me as a portrait in the canvass
like what everyone wants.

Look, look carefully, finally this is the portrait of me.
A river. You dip your finger in my eyes.
It is cold and it is passing like the ordinary wind
one boring day.

The Defector

Orbison/dees/angie morrow
It's the bonnie and clyde days
Where the girls wear curls and lace
And the boys can't stand the pace of war
It's not the war but the cause the country's fighting for
The seed of discontent is sown
They're burning card back home, back home
The old folks just can't ignore
The posters with ink anymore
I'm not sure what to think
Now i wonder why i'm on this foreign shore
To find peace of mind
For now i walk alone
Amd it's no better to leave than stay
And give more than i had to give
My life was not my own the wife i've never known
I may never know i may never go back home
To the land of the free, back home
To the land of the free back home
Would there be a place for me back home back home?
Well i always wonder why
Will they take me when i die back home

Paper And Pen

Paper and pen
Trying to write a song again
Paper and pen
Paper and pen

Paper and pen
Trying to write a song again
Paper and pen
Paper and pen

Can’t think of anything to say today
Can’t think of anything to do
Can’t think of anything to play today
Minds gone blank
Leaving me here, just sitting here
Listening to my hair grow

Paper and pen
Paper and pen

And I look towards you
For an inspiration or a word or two
I try but I find
Every road only leads me back to these lines

Paper and pen
Paper and pen

Paper and pen
Piano, guitar
I try but don't get very far
Paper and pen
Piano, guitar

Paper and pen
Trying to write a song again
Paper and pen
Paper and pen

Hands Of Time

If I could turn back the hands of time,
I know now that I really would,
I would then go to that special time,
The time that I could of known you.
As I have prayed, that I only could.
I would go when the roses where in bloom,
And their fragrant scent was in the air,
Never for me would the time be to soon,
As then would I compare your beauty to theirs.
Roses would be jealous, at you I would stare.

If I could turn back the sands of time,
I would do it in the wink of an eye,
I would gladly give all, only to be with you,
Then never again would we have to cry.
And from our woes, we could forever hide.
I close my eyes and I paint me a picture,
As if I could turn back the hands of time,
Together we would be, just you and me,
And then watch of time I would never rewind.
We would then be one in our own special time.

If I could turn back the movements of time,
I would gladly, but sadly that can never be,
As time marches on, through the dusk and dawn,
Till the day our souls and bodies are free.
For time doesn't stop, for any one mans plead.
I stare at the calendar upon my wall,
I memorize the watch that's rests on my wrist,
I think now how time has already passed me by,
So then to myself and time, I make a special wish.
I close my eyes, I freeze time, then I blow you a kiss.

God, Give Me Back My…

God,
Give me back my joy;
Give me back my good friends;
Give me back my good old days,
When I was just a boy!

God,
Give me back my peace;
Give me back my will-pow’r;
Give me back my piety,
When I had no disease!

God,
Give me back my heart;
Give me back my faith / hope;
Give me back my love of Thee,
Which I had from the start!

Did You Read The Morning Paper

(Nickolas Ashford/Valerie Simpson/R. Monica)
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
There on the front page was a picture
Of a crowd as they watched a parade passing by
And through the haze of last nights sleep
Something familiar caught my eye
There was a couple looking so much in love, yes
They had a front line view
And as I pulled the paper closer
I realized standing next to her it was you
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Now I know why you've been working late each night
And no longer have desire to ever hold me tight
And your busy, busy schedule was all a lie
Oh, even the dream with a bonus, oh just another alibi
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Did you get the news today
Did you read the morning paper
Isn't the picture very clear
Where do we go from here
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headlines
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Oh, what now
Did you read the morning paper
Did you get the news today
