People talked to me in a way I think they would not have talked to somebody who hadn't shared the experience; they gave me their papers, they gave me their diaries. I found people constantly opening up to me. And I think they did because I had shared that experience with them.

Side By Side
We walked for awhile together
side by side
We talked for awhile together
we sometimes cried
Our souls became one
with the Universe and stars
The roads up ahead seemed bright from afar
When we walked for awhile together
side by side
We shared our secrets and all our dreams
We shared our hopes our plans and schemes
Yes, we talked for awhile together
but did we try?
Then we tripped somewhere along the way
How could two lovers have gone so astray?
When we walked for awhile together
side by side

Before people complain of the obscurity of modern poetry, they should first examine their consciences and ask themselves with how many people and on how many occasions they have genuinely and profoundly shared some experience with another.

Give Me Honesty
She, she's been crying to me.
She, she's been trying.
She, she's been signing to me,
With words in her eyes, that says she means it!
We've often talked about the possibility
Of loving no more and setting each other free.
I can love you, just give me, honesty.
Don't take your love away from me.
We can try, we have necessities.
Chances are in our favor,
Open your heart, there it will occur.
Remember when the day was white
We shared the time, we shared the light.
Remember when the moon shone bright
We shared the time, we shared the night.
Give yourself to me and you will see,
One way to live just give me honesty.

Put to use
Happiness dries if not shared.
Sorrow swells if not shared.
Knowledge rusts if not shown.
Experience dies if not used.

Peace & Love
Peace and love, flying so high
Peace and love, too young to die
Peace and love, now you decide
Stay for the children
You dont really want to go
Cant feel it pulling like you did, peace and love...
Peace and love, only a ride
Strength is gone, dying inside
Tell me now, what did you find?
Found love in the people
Livin in a sacred land
Found love in the people, peace and love...
Found love...saw my mistake...broke walls of pain to walk again...
I saw the dream, I saw the wake...we shared it all but not the take...
Peace and love, lennons goodbye
Over now, living in time
A broken bell, a nursery rhyme
Deserted by heroes
Strangers in your own land
No way to deny you, to deny you...peace and love...
I took the oath till I had most
I took whats left, I gave it breath
I had it all once I gave it back...gave it back...

The Screen Behind The Mirror
(m.cretu.) .
Heres the mirror
Behind there is a screen
Turn around
On both ways you can get in
The experience of survival
Look around just people, can you hear their voice
Find the one wholl guide you to the limits of your choice
The experience / of survival
Try to think about it ...
Thats the chance to live your life and discover
Try to think about it
The experience of survival
The experience ...
The experience of survival
The experience ...

Warchild ('78 Demo)
Warchild, your heart is broken
Your mind is breakin', it's such a shame
Warchild, your body's broken
Your woman's taken, it's not a game
People once shared your wisdom
Shared your memory, shared your dreams
Now your thoughts have all been shattered
What once was rhythm are now just screams
Warchild, I used to love you
The whole world loved you, we used to care
Warchild, your mind has been emptied
So all you do now is just sit n' stare
People once shared your wisdom
Shared your memory, shared your dreams
Now your thoughts have all been shattered
What once was rhythm are now just screams
Your lady's waiting, she's hesitating
Not knowing why
Warchild, the pain you're showing
The pain is knowing that you're gonna die
People once shared your wisdom
Shared your memory, shared your dreams
Now your thoughts have all been shattered
What once was rhythm are now just screams

I talked to members of my family, and did some personal research that didn't really have anything to do with the time and place I was writing about, but that gave me a feeling of the experience of being black in a time and place where it was very difficult to be black.

Things in vague
Mind is talked about but not located.
Heart is talked about but not ascertained.
Ghosts are talked about but not captured.
God is talked about but in ‘faith' bracket.
We find it delightful to talk about
Things about which we are not certain.

Experience, The Best Teacher
When I was a student,
Many a teacher preached a sermon.
A sermon of, surprisingly, same subject.
This tedious theme could be thus summarized:
‘ if I could my student life re-live,
Very differently would I behave'.
A discourse denoting a dirge
A communication connoting a caution
If not a counselling to student who have ears
Students who would not shed tears,
Because they have ears to hear
And wise enough to understand,
Words of wisdom, even few.
But why to us their sermon relate?
Why to us their stories declare?
It is because about our future they care.
Careful, concerned and committed teachers,
Eager their experience to share,
Aware of the facts, glaring,
Facts preserved in an axiom,
The often quoted and tested maxim,
That experience is the best teacher.
Experience is the best teacher,
To those without any experience,
The best teacher is experience shared.
Shared by fair and frank fellows,
Who When good opportunities
Came beggarly begging,
Refused to these opportunities utilise,
Reaping the result of their recklessness, fully
Learning first-hand from their folly,
That opportunity knocks but once,
And once unutilised is lost forever.
But shared experiences meticulously applied,
Will save one the superfluous suffering,
Subsequent from the silly slip-up,
Of turning deaf ears to sermons.
Signifying that total respect to advice,
Plays a crucial role in molding us,
And goes to lend credence
To the usually used saw, that
Experience is the best teacher.

Teachers! Teachers!
God saw immaturity in me
he saw me helpless and misguided
He knew I needed a heart of compassion,
Of encouragement, and a helping hand;
Someone who would accept
The challenge regardless of the
Opposition; opposition by none other than me..
Someone who could see potential
And believe in the best in me...
So He sent you
From heavens above..
Like the northern star
That guided me
Towards happiness and ever lasting experience
Experience of respect and smiles.
Each day you stood before me
and gave me your time.
You delivered some thoughtful and unforgettable Thoughts.
You gave me your patience
and helped expand my minds.
Thanks for what you gave me
And for whatever u taught!
Thanks for all the answers
I ll really miss you a lot

Roses for us
A red Rose stands for the love we shared
A blue Rose for the burses you gave me
A Yellow Rose for all the days we shared out in the sun
A pink Rose for all love we shared
And A black Rose for all the time we will never share..

Old Friends
I caught a glimpse of you and me today
Whilst walking through a park
Where two friends walked and talked
Under trees filled with laughter
When carefree we shared bad jokes
And pretended to be other people on the phone
I miss the prayers the love
The friend that never left me on my own
Who shared dreams and poetry
Who made minutes stretch into an hour and more
Who was always knocking on my door
Who listened to my tired relentless rhyme
Who forgave me for never being on time
And without looking consumed my terribly bad cooking
The holidays the photographs the arguments and fun,
It's twenty years and more,
Oh how I miss that knock upon my door!

Leaving Me
do you remember that day,
when you tried to say goodbye,
then you said you'll stay for me,
because I almost cried,
you gave me this smile,
not because your staying,
but because you'd be missed,
just the thought of you leaving,
it makes me want to cry,
thinking about the time we shared,
and the time passing by,
it'll hurt more when you do leave,
so why even bother?
we have shared laughs,
we've shared hours,
but I can't let it go,
I can't let you go,
I'll miss you too much,
and I'd hope you'd miss me,
just saying goodbye isn't enough,
we know eachother to well to let go,
so don't,
never let me go,
and never go from me.

Fundamental ideas are not a consequence of experience, but a result of the particular constitution and activity of the mind, which is independent of all experience in its origin, though constantly combined with experience in its exercise.

A Nice Cup Of Tea Sonnet
Her advice reminds me
of ladies afternoon tea.
Scones and a jolly good brew
shared by two just you and me.
Do you take your tea
with milk and sugar?
Your tea is served with two
spoon fulls of sugar or three?
We shared a chat a cup of tea
we talked over important decisions.
We poured all pros and cons
to map out future career ambitions.
We sorted all future troubles out
we cleared a path of fear and doubt.

The day I met you was a bad hair day
The day i met you was a bad hair day. This one piece of hair just wouldn't stay. You must have noticed, you must have seen. You were just a little distant, your mind in another place I could see it in your face. So after we talked for a while you excused yourself with a pleasent smile. But what would have happened if my hair had looked good? Would we have talked longer flirted more? We could have shared a night of fun but instead you turned away, It's scary to think that my feature could lay, on one piece of hair that just wouldn't stay.

The Same Mother
They each shared
the same mother
shared the same loss of her
when the time came
gave the same
last wave
when she was
driven off
to crematorium
and then grave
but each had
their own mother
whom they shared
with no other
one with whom
they shared
a particular time
or place
sitting quietly
face to face
sharing a secret
or confessing
a deed done
or just
the mother to child meeting
with just the two
at some given time
at some particular place
some given year
to share a problem
or tears or anxieties
or deeper fears
and knowing
she would listen
as only mother's can
or do
sharing the time and love
with each particular
person called you
whether daughter or son
she shared
her equal love and time
and yet each knew her
each thought
they knew her best
and carried away
their own best times
in her company
without the rest
their own moments shared
but deep down
they knew
she had her love for each
and each was equal
to the rest
for she never had
a favourite
nor considered
any one the best
so they all shared
the same mother
in the end
all grieved her going
each in their own way
hoping or believing
they would share her
once again
some better place
some future day.
