The shock of any trauma, I think changes your life. It's more acute in the beginning and after a little time you settle back to what you were. However it leaves an indelible mark on your psyche.

Settle Down My Boy
Settle down, an eat your peas and gravy, my boy
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down
Stop wasting all your time with running around the town
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down
Knuckle down and find a job and take some responsibility
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down
The futures something you should be thinking about
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down
Look around for a wife to start a family, my boy
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down
Listen toy our father and hell tell you the same as me
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down
Your words would go in one ear and out the other side
Dont say my head was empty and I had things to hide
And you better put something away for your old age
So settle down, settle down my boy settle down
Settle down, settle down my boy settle down uh huh huh

Dust Settles
My ending
with time; it ran out
no further than it began
to give birth
though the dust
settle on the earth
I found a life
led with raft
many a woe
had to settle
the drifting grains
that mark a harvest
now in store
I plot to live
outside they mark on
the grave a sign
for rendering lifeless
is not a choice
I have best to make
of a situation and escape
my character flaws
from the origin
I had since birth

A Footprint, A Face...
do not mountains,
trees, and rivers live
their time, and die?
does not the sun
rise in the morning
only to lay down at night?
are not universes born of dust,
only to return to dust?
why should we be any different?
all that lives but a fleeting glimpse
into the workings of eternity.
yet everything that comes and goes
leaves an indelible mark,
a footprint on the water,
a face put to the wind!

Settle Down
Album: Eternal (2001)
[Chorus]
Do you think you're ready
To settle down, settle down babe
Do you think you're ready
To settle down with me babe
Do you think you're ready
To settle down, settle down with me babe
Settle down with me, babe
Settle down
Would you like a house on the hill
Overlooking the ocean side
Tell me, would you like that baby
Or how about a high-rise apartment
In Manhattan on the east side
If that's what you need
I'm here to please
Won't you settle down with me, baby
[Chorus]
We could take a jet plane all the way to Spain
Just to buy you a wedding ring
Tell me, would you like that baby
Oh, talk to me girl
We could get married on Christmas day
On the shores of Montego Bay
If that's what you need
I'm here to please
Won't you settle down with me
If you're ready
Only if you're ready
To settle down, settle down babe
Tell me if you're ready, ready yeah
To settle down with me babe
Do you think you're ready
To settle down, settle down with me babe
Settle down, settle down
Settle down
I'm not trying to buy your love
Money ain't in it
You can't put a rpice on love
Tell me if I'm worthy of
Worthy of you're hand
Girl let's start making plans
You're shining like a star above
You're the light of my life
Oh girl, be my wife
Settle down baby
Oh but first
Do you think you're ready
To settle down, settle down babe
I wanna know if you're ready, tell me baby
To settle down with me babe
Do you think you're ready
To settle down, settle down with me babe
Settle down babe
Settle down
Ooh
oh, whoa
Oooh
No no no no no no no
Yeah yes
Oh settle down babe
Settle down
You tell me when you're ready
(I'm ready, I'm ready)
Do you think you're ready
(I, yes I am baby)
Please tell me
(You already know)
When you're ready
(Yes I'm ready)
Then We can settle down
(Settle down babe)
Settle down
(I'm ready)
I wanna know if you're ready
Oh wee, oh it feels like you're ready babe
I can tell if you're ready
We need to settle down babe
Settle down

Shock To My System
So there I stood, square on my side of the great divide
A message came across a void
And for the first time in my life
Im awake, Im alive
I thought I was immune to this
til I felt the static charges in the air
I touch you, youre a live wire
Youre the raw fire burning in my heart
And it took me by surprise, thats no lie
You know you are, you are a sharp, shock to my system
A spark, a real shock
You know you are, you are a sharp, shock to my system
You start I cant stop
You taught me how to listen, shock to my system
My soul, my skin, you plug me in
And all of my pain is gone just like it never was
For the first time in my life I know what I feel
Now every time we touch Im caught off my guard
Thats no lie
You know you are, you are a sharp, shock to my system,
A spark, a real shock
You know you are, you are a sharp, shock to my system
You start I cant stop
You taught me how to listen shock to my system
Shock to my system
Shock to my system
You know you are, you are a sharp, shock to my system
You start I cant stop...

Trauma...
having heard that you had trauma
falling on the busy street with no one helping
in a bit, i cannot really relate,
but i remember in that big city where i once lived
trauma is everywhere
even in the restaurants where new lovers dine
even in boulevards where yachts love their rest
even in bed where love is invented
trauma has become a way of life
like breakfast and special dinners
like waking up
in some ways when another person jumps from
the 13th floor and then you hear the ambulance screaming
you simply dismiss this as another daily routine
and so you close the window
and watch the soap opera on TV
lying on the sofa
your thoughts focusing on the most trivial matter
that is more of
another trauma.

The Age of Fall
A time when things material
begin to have little… or no
Import at all
A time closely akin to Nature’s transformation
From verdant summer green
To roseate and redolent Fall
A season in life…
as much a reason in Nature
When retrospection and reappraisal…
like falling leaves…
settle softly…subtly
On each one and all
A season when sentiments
of sincerity, and satisfaction
Reign supreme
As inevitably as soft blankets of leaves
And inexorable incursions
Of fall’s ice upon streams
A time of looking back o’er shoulder
No concern to what
Lies ahead
A time of taking stock of how life…like leaves
Has fallen about you and humbled
Your weary head
A time of peace…in both meadows and mind
Of qualities shared equally…
By both in kind
Ageing and Fall…times of hesitation
To look back upon…wistfully..
Your Summers and Spring
Of blossoming trees…and of fond memories
That only Ageing…
And fall can bring

I don't need to manufacture trauma in my life to be creative. I have a big enough reservoir of sadness or emotional trauma to last me.
Shock To The System
Shock to the system,
But youre going back inside of the light.
Shock to the freedom,
Only one more body of love, and theyre rolling
Theyre rolling back to you!
Dreaming all the time; they be dreaming all the time.
Shock to the politicians;
You know they just got burned by the fire.
Shock to the freedom whispers;
Theyre only coming after, theyre rolling
Theyre rolling, coming over!
Dreaming all the time; they be dreaming all the time.
So, in answer to the prayer,
The one you want is there,
The one you feel inside of you.
So, in answer to the dream,
This time you are so clear;
Its always got to be this way!
Forever...
Shock to the future;
Shock to the rights of mankind.
And they wont even go blind,
When they cant see whats going on.
So, in answer to the prayer,
The one you feel is there,
The one you feel so close to (the order of the sun).
And everyone is one,
And all the pieces fit together.
Did it all begin with someone?
Did it all begin with someone?
I couldnt have pictured being alive!
Shock to the system...

My Friends Back In My Prime Years
My friends back in my prime years I never did disown
It's just that I live far from them and apart we have grown
We drank and played football together but our separate ways we've gone
And we have forged new friendships and life of course goes on.
My friends back in my prime years may now look a bit gray
And they might not know me or I might not know them if by chance we met today
In my memory they have remained young but in reality
The years have left their mark on them as the years have left their mark on me.
Old father time the aloof one to anyone doesn't bow
And some of my friends of my prime years may be grand parents now
Perhaps they now are showing their age and time has left them slow
They could run fast as I recall some twenty years ago.
My friends back in my prime years I may now not recognize
For time leaves it's mark on all of us I've come to realize
I drunk beer with them in the pub and with them played football
And that was many years ago as I can well recall.

Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues
Im too terrified to walk out of my own front door,
Theyre demonstrating outside I think theyre gonna start the third world war,
Ive been to my local head shrinker,
To help classify my disease,
He said its one of the cases of acute schizophrenia he sees.
Well the milkmans a spy, and the grocer keeps on following me,
And the woman next doors an undercover for the k.g.b.,
And the man from the social security
Keeps on invading my privacy,
Oh there aint no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.
Ive got acute schizophrenia paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
Ive got it, youve got it, we cant lose,
Acute schizophrenia blues.
Im lost on the river, the river of no return,
I cant make decisions, I dont know which way Im gonna turn,
Even my old dad, lost some of the best friends he ever had,
Apparently, his was a case of acute schizophrenia too.
I got acute schizophrenia paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
Ive got it, youve got it, we cant lose,
Acute schizophrenia blues,
Theyre watching my house and theyre tapping my telephone,
I cant trust nobody, but Im much too scared to be on my own
And the income tax collectors got his beady eye on me,
Oh there aint no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.
No there aint no cure for
Schizophrenia disease.

Man Gave Names To All The Animals
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago.
He saw an animal that liked to growl,
Big furry paws and he liked to howl,
Great big furry back and furry hair.
Ah, think Ill call it a bear.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago.
He saw an animal up on a hill
Chewing up so much grass until she was filled.
He saw milk comin out but he didnt know how.
Ah, think Ill call it a cow.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago.
He saw an animal that liked to snort,
Horns on his head and they werent too short.
It looked like there wasnt nothin that he couldnt pull.
Ah, think Ill call it a bull.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago.
He saw an animal leavin a muddy trail,
Real dirty face and a curly tail.
He wasnt too small and he wasnt too big.
Ah, think Ill call it a pig.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago.
Next animal that he did meet
Had wool on his back and hooves on his feet,
Eating grass on a mountainside so steep.
Ah, think Ill call it a sheep.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning.
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago.
He saw an animal as smooth as glass
Slithering his way through the grass.
Saw him disappear by a tree near a lake . . .

Loss of Time
A forgotten time
A forgotten society
A forgotten land
A forgotten people
A time of peace
A time of war
A time of grieving
A time of celebration
A time of loss
A loss of knowledge
A loss of dignity
A loss of loved ones
A loss of sanity
A loss of peace
A beginning of a new time
A beginning of new life
A beginning of new knowledge
A beginning of new peace
A beginning of new war
Its all a cycle
From a new beginning
To loss
To a time of difference
Till it is all forgotten
And a new beginning is forged.

One Earthquake at a Time
Upheaval can take millions of years to start,
Then mountains pile up and sea beds tear apart,
When land crashes into another piece of land,
Things disappear in the sand.
The history of the world, written in rock,
Reveals results of the after shock,
Years of cracks show the sign,
Things change one Earthquake at a time.
The value of life devoid of the crap,
Becomes acute on a rearranged map,
The depths of the earth reach the depths of the mind,
One Earthquake at a time.

In the Beginning
In the beginning was the Word…
what’s a beginning, then?
a beginning, perhaps, not in time;
a beginning, perhaps, with time itself;
in our time, the recognition’s all;
beginning known within our being;
being that is beyond beginning;
and so, always being; always beginning..
so, in the beginning – is - the Word..
the Word, a sound? yet heard before the ear;
a speaking and a listening,
waiting to be heard…
the Word, finding for itself a time;
finding for itself a place;
a wakening; a becoming;
for this, we know:
a beginning; a becoming;
the word becomes, as things become;
every word is a becoming;
that, the yogis hear;
that, poets listen for;
that spurs all philosophers;
every becoming is the Word;
every word is a becoming.

Shock The Monkey
Shock the monkey to life
Shock the monkey to life
Cover me when I run
Cover me through the fire
Something knocked me out the trees
Now Im on my knees
Cover me, darling please
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Dont you know when youre going to shock the monkey
Fox the fox
Rat the rat
You can ape the ape
I know about that
There is one thing you must be sure of
I cant take any more
Darling, dont you monkey with the monkey
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Dont you know youre going to shock the monkey
Wheels keep turning
Somethings burning
Dont like it but I guess Im learning
Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Cover me, when I sleep
Cover me, when I breathe
You throw your pearls before the swine
Make the monkey blind
Cover me, darling please
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Dont you know youre going to shock the monkey
Too much at stake
Ground beneath me shake
And the news is breaking
Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey to life
