I knew that when I resigned from the University of Texas that I would never coach again.

Theres A Girl In Texas
(trace adkins/vip vipperman)
When I rode out of dallas
Chasing down a dream
I thought I knew what I was looking for
But the neon nights have blinded me
til Im lost in tennessee
Not sure I know who I am anymore... but
Theres a girl in texas
Theres a girl in texas
Theres a girl in texas
That does
Youre a truly lovely lady
And you sure light up the night
Im a lonely man but Im leaving here alone
I wont try to lie to you
About this heart of mine
That I cant give, that I dont really own... cause
Theres a girl in texas
Theres a girl in texas
Theres a girl in texas
That does
If this dream that Ive been chasing
Ever sets me free
And I wake up to find it dont need me
Theres a girl in texas
Theres a girl in texas
Theres a girl in texas
That does
Yes, theres a girl in texas that I still love

I think the University of Texas has the chance to become the finest public university in the country.
During my Austin years, I was drawing a regular strip for the University Of Texas newspaper, going to school, delivering blood, and trying to change my approach and ""style"" as much as I could, since I knew that I'd calcify as I got older.

Prairie Rose
(ferry/manzanera)
Texas thats where i
Belong
It seems to me
Texas lonesome star
Shine on
The big country
Texas with open skies
And you
For company
Texas oh prairie rose
How happy
I should be
Hey hey you can take it from me
Hey hey ill be coming, youll see
Hey hey oh what a state to be in
Hey hey youre tantalising me
Texas I will compose
In fancy rhyme
Or just plain prose
Texas a song of praise
To you
Prairie rose
Texas though im not sure
I can explain
Your strange allure
Texas prairie rose -
A crown of thorns
A scented flower
Hey hey id better leave right away
Hey hey I can hear you calling me
Prairie rose

Scout's Honor, The Pope & The Football Coach
Oh wow! Seems like every channel has the exact same story,
The most storybook football program has tarnished it’s glory,
At the Mighty Penn State where the winningest coach resides,
Amidst allegations of child sexual abuse the emotions runs high.
Did he or did he not, why wasn’t more done to help protect?
Those in a program designed to rise above hurt and neglect,
Started by an assistance coach whose job was the defense,
Not designed to recruit the adolescent under false pretense.
Joe Paterno has the most football wins by a college coach,
Supposedly his 2 national title program is above reproach,
But, just like the sex abuse scandal within the Boy Scouts,
Along with that powerful Catholic Church, better look out.
The names of the innocent victims abused are at least nine,
And amazingly over a known period of 12-15 years time,
Not through innuendo, hearsay or speculation it was seen,
Yet like the Catholic Church more important was the green.
Again dead presidents again took priority over child welfare,
Under those in authority whose main responsibility is to care,
One 60-year-old man naked with a likewise 10-year-old boy,
Alone it the shower on campus, like a toddler with a new toy.
To do whatever he willed over the child unable to fight back,
How many times before & since helpless when under attack?
But wait this time there’s an eyewitness of the dastardly deed,
Still it’s to no avail because in athletics the bottom line is greed.
Many who knew actually lied to the Grand Jury, okay let’s see,
High-ranking officials resigned & the president of the university?
As the nation ponders who is the next to beheaded by the axe?
Explain why the focus is on football not victims, what a sad fact.
So, should the man who passed the buck be allowed to coach?
Is not the Cardinal who overlooked mass rape now the Pope?
We need a real life Terminator to protect kids like John Connor,
Those who have Arnold’s role failed miserably, Scout’s Honor.

Deep In The Heart Of Texas
The stars at night - are big and bright
Deep in the heart of texas.
The prairie sky - is wide and high
Deep in the heart of texas.
The sage in bloom - is like perfume
Deep in the heart of texas.
Reminds me of - the one I love
Deep in the heart of texas.
The cowboys cry - ki-yip-pie-yi
Deep in the heart of texas.
The rabbits rush - around the brush
Deep in the heart of texas.
The coyotes wail - along the trail
Deep in the heart of texas.
The doggies bawl - and bawl and bawl
Deep in the heart of texas.

When Its Christmas Time In Texas
When its christmas time in texas
Its a very special time for me
In texas well go swingin round the christmas tree
Dancin to a christmas melody
When its christmas time in texas
It might look just like a summer day
There may not be snow in san antonio
But its a texas christmas to me
[chorus]
When santa claus slips over the border
Itll sound a little different when he sings
cause hell hear those twin fiddles playin
Christmas songs with a touch of western swing
There may not be snow in san antonio
But its a texas christmas to me
When its christmas time in texas
I love to hear those christmas carolers sing
People on the go childrens faces all aglow
Grandpas been chasin grandma around
Tryin to catch her neath the mistletoe
Everything is right the lone star shinin bright
But its a texas christmas to me
Frosty the snowman knew the snow was hot that day
So he said lets run and have some fun before I melt away
Down to the village with a broom stick in his hand
Runnin here and there all around the square
Sayin catch me if you can
[chorus]
And heres wishin you all a merry christmas
Merry christmas from texas and me

A-One!
A-One!
Endeavour, end, an, and, den, dean, dear;
University Boy and a Salon Girl! !
Coming together,
Sign, assign!
In unity,
Birth, girth, mirth, firth!
In one flesh,
Mite, might!
In marriage,
But, the miscarriage was brought about because of the carriage! !
Endeavour!
Poach, coach, approach, cockroach, reproach;
Hear, ear!
In the valley of smoke;
In the Bentley University of Massachusetts! !
hear, heart!
And like tapping honey;
But, you've not found anyone like her.

Ill Take Texas
When the texas moon is shining down on austin
When it shines across the rio grande
When it comes to makin love
Under the stars above
Well honey Ill take texas everytime
We danced in every ballroom down in beaumont
And we strolled the river walk in san antone
Its where we fell in love
Like to young turtle doves
Well honey Ill take texas everytime
When it comes to makin love
Under the stars above
Honey Ill take texas
Honey Ill take texas
Honey Ill take texas
Honey Ill take texas everytime

I Cant See Texas From Here
I come and go as I please
From down here, up north and in between
But baby its a shame, cause I always feel the same
When I cant see texas from here
I cant see texas from here
No matter how I try, it makes me wanna die
So if you see me looking down, Im trying not to show this frown
cause I cant see texas from here
I cant say I dont like tennessee
The people here have all been good to me
So please dont take offense if I start to gettinõ tense
Its just cause I cant see texas from here
I cant see texas from here
No matter how I try, it makes me wanna die
So if you see me looking down, Im trying not to show this frown
cause I cant see texas from here

The Girls From Texas
(james lewis/jimmy holiday/cliff chambers)
Well, I met a girl from texas bout a year ago
Hadnt known her for too long when I had to let her go
You see, she had a razor, was ten inches or so
And every night youd hear her knocking at my door
She said, baby, Ill give you the clothes on my back
You can have everything that Ive got in my shack
But if you ever try to leave theyll take your out in sack
cause me and my razor will see to that
Thats the way the girls are from texas
Thats the way the girls are from texas
Thats the way the girls are from texas
I thought about my situation, decided not to tarry
For my own self preservation I decided we should marry
When the preacher started reading bout till death do us part
I told him, skip it, we had that understanding right from the start
Thats the way the girls are from texas
Thats the way the girls are from texas (houston to san antone)
Thats the way the girls are from texas (got to love em right or leave em alone)
Well, we settled down, got me a little old job, 65 fairlane ford
Every friday night I would stop in and cash my pay check down at the grocery store
They had a little girl worked in there, must have been about seventeen
She was the cutest thing I had ever seen
Its the same old story and Im afraid it wasnt too very long
Before we had fallen deeply in love and I knew it was wrong
I said baby, we got to stop this thing right here
Or my woman is gonna cut my throat from ear to ear, thats right
Tearful suffocation, she looked up in my face
I could feel her heart was breaking as these sad words she did say
You should have told me you was married, baby
She pulled out a forty-five and let me have it, right smack between the eyes
Thats the way the girls are from texas
Thats the way the girls are from texas
Thats the way the girls are from texas
She was guilty, I was dead
Now, whatd you think that the old judge said ?
Ah, thats just the way the girls are down here in texas
Case dismissed!
Thats the way the girls are from texas
Thats the way the girls are from texas (houston to san antone)
Thats the way the girls are from texas (got to love em right or leave em alone, boy)

The Dead Coach
At night when sick folk wakeful lie,
I heard the dead coach passing by,
And heard it passing wild and fleet,
And knew my time was come not yet.
Click-clack, click-clack, the hoofs went past,
Who takes the dead coach travels fast,
On and away through the wild night,
The dead must rest ere morning light.
If one might follow on its track
The coach and horses, midnight black,
Within should sit a shape of doom
That beckons one and all to come.
God pity them to-night who wait
To hear the dead coach at their gate,
And him who hears, though sense be dim,
The mournful dead coach stop for him.
He shall go down with a still face,
And mount the steps and take his place,
The door be shut, the order said!
How fast the pace is with the dead!
Click-clack, click-clack, the hour is chill,
The dead coach climbs the distant hill.
Now, God, the Father of us all,
Wipe Thou the widow’s tears that fall!
