I feel a lot more secure about the directions I take, than I might have, had I not practiced Buddhism.

Well, I'm Buddhist, Ray, and so part of my Buddhism has allowed me to look a little more deeply at people and the events in my life that created me. And I think a lot of that Buddhism comes out in the world view in this novel.

Swim
This frame of mind
Young hollow man
Said all I've got to say
Done all I can
Won't even try
Won't even show
Don't tell me things
I don't want to know
Swim through me
Make me
More than whole
Come see what I mean
Make me feel secure
And in these days between
When I fall apart
I'd run away but you know
I'm not that smart
These strange ideas
I'll see them through
They've been a part of me
And I know that they're a part of you
And they swim through me
Make me
More than whole
Come see what I mean
Make me feel secure
Swim through me
Make me more than whole
Come see what I mean
Make me feel secure
Swim through me
Make me feel secure
Swim through me
Make me more than whole
Come see what I mean
Make me feel secure

If medicine was practiced in 1965 the way it's practiced today, there's no question that prescriptions would have been included in Medicare.

Windswept
In blustery weather,
the wind plays havoc with you,
pushing you in directions
you do not want to go.
If you go against it,
then its one-step forwards
and two steps back.
Walking with it behind you,
next minute your in a run.
Your hair goes in all directions,
having a life of its own.
You hold onto something solid
in case you take off into the air
and you feel totally and utterly
windswept.

Maitri Bhavana of Buddhism
To realize others' concern as ours
And come forward to help them in their sour
Is the essence of Maitri Bhavana,
A philosophy Buddhism has given.
Neglects fetch neglects; sucours fetch sucours.
Everyone knows it and yet ignores it.
Ensuring own needs and ignoring others,
One enjoys life and ignores rainy days.
Maitri Bhavana practiced, one gets
Equanimity, a non-judgmental
Attitude in a given situation,
Which'll block the tendencies for selfishness.
Probe the person you have got hatred for.
Probe the people you are in conflict with.
You may find why they are so to you
And a way will be born for a patch up.
Without concern for others, one cannot live.
With a deaf ear to others, one can't buy peace.
Mutual helps are a panacea to the stress.

Sonnet-On Security of Soul
Man spends his time to make his life secure,
And gathers wealth to tend to future needs;
For this purpose, he will all things endure;
To anyone's directions too, he heeds.
His life-time lapses in this exercise;
His energy too ebbs as old age nears;
His lucre takes him towards much more vice;
And in his last few years, he has hell's fears.
May be, he spent his life on earth grandly;
Did all his earnings make his soul secure?
Discontent man, he leaves the world sadly;
His place in Heaven is very unsure.
Our soul's security is our prime task;
And Heaven doesn't allow persons with mask.

I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
Alive
Through these eyes I see
There's a place for me
And life is full of questions
That keep me alive
Through these veins I feel
A certain kind of thrill
And I'm flying in all directions
And that keeps me alive
Would you sell the story
Drown in all the glory
That surrounds you
Surrounds you!
Won't you shelter me
Keep me company
As I'm searching for protection
To keep me alive
With these hands I feel
A certain kind of thrill
And I have in my possesion
What keeps me alive
Secrets I have found
It turns my head around
And that keeps me alive
It's what keeps me alive
It's what keeps me alive
And I'm flying in all directions
It's what keeps me alive

Because Of Love
You got me singin...
[CHORUS:]
Because of love
I know you better
Because of love
We are together
Because of love
You have my heart
Because of love
We'll never part
When I first met you
I knew that
life would never be the same
And I knew
That you felt it too
Never feel alone again boy
Cause your love makes me feel so secure
You got me singin
[CHORUS (2x)]
I don't care what people say
You're the one that brings me so much joy
When I look
At your smiling eyes my heart wants to dance boy
There's only you
On my mind
and
I never want to leave your side
It feels right
So let's stay together
Never feel alone again boy
Cause your love makes me feel so secure
You got me singin
[CHORUS]
It's cause of love
We've shared great memories
The way you make me feel (weee oooh)
It's cause of love
I feel so high
I don't need nobody else
Because of love
Because of love...
[CHORUS (2x)]

Your proximity means a lot to me
Your proximity means a lot to me
Yes, it means a lot to me to be with you
And to be intimately close to you
Not just a physical togetherness
But with a soulful oneness with you
You have been the drive of my life so far
But here and there I missed you
As I chose to act differently from your direction
You never let me down any time
You kept your watch on me
Not uttering a word
Though you maintain a silence I know
What you expect me to do
That will please you
Your directions are not always worldly wise
Your directions are not always fetching
Your directions are not always rewarding
Your directions are often different from acquired wisdom
Your directions are not taught in any school
We understand them from the experience of not life, but of living
Still your proximity means a lot to me
It leaves behind a great satisfaction
After being with you and after having acted upon your direction
When I look back
I understand that
Actions performed as per your directions
Never made me regret them
Though at the time of acting
I needed lot strength than what I require
When I am acting on the path of acquired wisdom
Your proximity means a lot to me
Oh my love, that is hidden deeply in my heart
And you are different from
The wisdom planted in the mind
And gathered in life

Two Different Directions
This song appears on three albums, and was first released on the different directions album, and has also been released on the a portrait and the john denver collection - annies song albums.
They say they love each other
Ive no doubt they do
They say theyll always be together
That may not be true
They come from different places
Different points of view
They find themselves in different spaces
Everything is all brand new
Two different directions
Too many different ways
One always on the road somewhere
The other one always stays
Too often unhappy
Too often on your own
When you are moving in different directions
True love is all alone
Old stories start to surface
Patterns from long ago
And loving quickly turns to anger
For reasons they dont even know
The strongest heart can be broken
With one insensitive word
The deepest feelings remain unspoken
No one is seen and nothing heard
Two different directions
Too many different ways
One always wants to work things out
The other one wants to play
To ready for changes
To much that just cant wait
When you are moving in different directions
True love can turn to hate
If opposites attract each other
Whats the reason for
One being like an open window
One just like a closing door
Two different directions
Two many different ways
One likes to see the morning sunrise
The other one sleeps in late
To many tomorrows
To many times too late
When you are moving in different directions
True love may have to wait
If you are committed to different directions
True love will have to wait
