Wakin' up at nine
Looks at his paper
Can't deal with what he sees
All the troubled lives
The talk of the ages
He's crawling back to bed
Don't take a walk outside
Don't make any new friends
He's crawling back to bed
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
Callin' all his friends
He's known 'em for ages
Can't deal with what they say
Connective alibis
Cold and contagious
He's crawling back to bed
So cut off the phone lines
Stock up on water
He's crawling back to bed
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing

There is such a thing as a man being too proud to fight; there is such a thing as a nation being so right that it does not need to convince others by force that it is right.

A Thing Just A Thing
things only seem to be what they are
when they try so hard to convince
they ask the help of light to cast some shadows
and if they can only speak they will say:
'you see, i am true
i am real, i am casting a shadow'
in my doubt, i touch a thing in you
there is nothing there but only a thing
and i tell you
'you are only a thing with a shadow
i haven't touched a heart'
and then i hear the silence
and then there was calm and quiet

Before you try to convince anyone else, be sure you are convinced, and if you cannot convince yourself, drop the subject.

I'm supposed to convince you, for two hours, that I'm somebody else. Now if you know everything about my life, if you think you've got me figured out and you think you know all my dark secrets, how am I ever going to convince you that I'm somebody else?

I can't convince you to put the drink down if you're an alcoholic, you have to want to do that. I can't convince you to stop eating the cookies when you're a diabetic. You have to do that. And that takes responsibility.
Am I Trying To Convince You I Am Happy?
You have a need to convince me,
Your way of life lived is right.
Why can't you just leave me alone?
Am I trying to convince you I am happy?
What part of goodbye do you need defined?

I'm not out there trying to get press for myself nor am I trying to convince anybody that I'm living any kind of a life. I'm actually trying to convince people: I don't want you to know what I'm living, because it's none of your business.

When I Get The Time
There are times when
people arrange things for you to do,
things that you don’t want to do.
You have allocated that time
for something you need to do,
then they convince you
that is the thing to do.
You feel an inner anger,
wanting to rebel,
but they keep telling you
that it is a one off thing.
You nod reluctantly,
but you don’t want to do it
as it is encroaching on your time.
All you can do is mutter
yes that will be fine
and I’ll get done
what I want to do
when I get the time.

Feed
Under
It's dark
Right now
Release me
I've come this far
I'd don't need you
Right
I don't miss much
I don't miss you
See right through me
Convince me that I'm wrong
Feed me this line all twisted
Convince me to be strong
Did it before
And you'll do it again
Step on my toes
As you call me a friend
Your massive attack
Is to prey on the weak
Let the fun begin
Every time you speak
Under
Inside
Right now
Release me

Aspirations To Charade
I will not miss a thing by my leaving you.
Even those dreams I pursued,
Will be revised with someone new.
But I do admit the act itself,
Has been long overdue.
And since I am done with our arguments...
This will give you time to convince someone,
Just how terrific you are!
I will not miss a thing by my leaving you.
Even those dreams I pursued,
Will be revamped with someone new.
And hopefully what you and I had gone through...
Will be as swift disappearing from memory,
As the decision I made...
To leave you and your ambitions,
With aspirations to charade with some unsuspecting fool!

There is such a thing as food and such a thing as poison. But the damage done by those who pass off poison as food is far less than that done by those who generation after generation convince people that food is poison.

You Don't Mean A Thing To Me!
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
Is that the message you want me to receive?
But each time you chance to see me publicly...
Your eyes begin to dance.
And that smile you try to hide from me.
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
You act that way in a crowd on the streets.
And when I pretend you are not there,
I 'feel' you secretly taking a peek!
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
You may say that to yourself frequently.
But each time my phone rings,
And I am at home
You hang up to leave me,
Listening to a dial tone!
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
Who are you wishing to convince?
Is this what you want me to believe?
Then why when my birthday comes around...
You send me a card signed...
'It's me, anonymous.
I am 'back' in town! '
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
Who are you really trying to fool?
Me, your friends or family?
I am told by others,
You actually ask about me.
And they tell me you act jealously,
When I'm with someone else...
Having fun and being carefree!
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
Is that the message you want me to receive.
But each time you chance to see me publicly...
Your eyes begin to dance.
And that smile you try to hide from me.
If what you show is not a true feeling at all,
Why even bother to sometimes call?
'You don't mean a thing to me! '
When that time comes...
And you find me in your heart,
The only one left...
You have not chased away,
From the start.
I will not be stunned,
Not one bit.
To discover you admitting...
You have a love for me that has been sitting.
But unlike you...
From the very beginning,
I'm not fearing to be near...
So you can hear these words clear,
~It's me, I love you.~
'You don't even know me! '
~I know.
But something tells me,
I will.~

It's Been A Summer
I'm cracked from my head down to my spine
And I'm trying to convince myself
That the way I feel is all I have
It could take a lifetime
To realize that you're alright
But she said
"I'd know when you would come back"
It's been a summer
It's burning up in here
Even thought the bed is cold on your side
I'd rather die
then spend this night here without you
I would try to fix these flaws of mine
If I could just see you for one more time
And I'm trying to convince myself
That the way I feel is all I have
I don't believe in sure things
There's pain in what the truth brings
I'd be the first one to know
If its smart for me to just let it go
I'll be the laughing stock of all time
Person most likely to find
Deciding if it's fate that made you avoid me to this day

Spineless
A spinelessness,
Will always find a way...
To slither out of control.
Whether in attempts to convince,
It isn't what it is.
Or pretend a warm heart exists,
In a 'thing' that is nothing...
But stone ice cold.
And those who are spineless,
Eventually show themselves...
When their backs are up against the wall.
And their venomous tactics have been exposed.
Showing themselves to be ssssnakes!

Its Been A Summer
Its been a summer
Im cracked from my head down to my spine
Ready to self destruct
At any time
And Im trying to convince myself that the way Im feeling is all I have
It could take a lifetime
To realize that youre alright
(but you said)
I know when you will come back
Its been a summer
Its burning up in here
Even though the bed is cold on your side
Id rather die than spend this night here without you
(without you)
I would try to fix these flaws of mine
If I could just see you (if I could just see you)
For one more time
And Im trying to convince myself that the way Im felling is all I have
I dont believe it sure fits
Theres pity, but the truth brings:
Ill be the first one to know
If its wrong for me to just let it go
Ill be the laughing stock of florida
Person most likely to find it saddening
Its fate that made you want for me til this day

Miss Tantrum
When ever Mother
hits the bull's eye
with a home truth
'like a big pizza pie'
...that's...
'Irrelevant...irr elevant! '
darling daughter cries
or rather screams
throwing temper tanturms
because she can be seen through
so easily.
The only thing
relevant
(it would seem)
are the lies
daughter tells herself
to convince
herself
she's right
(when she's wrong) .
All I can think is
'Poor old Mum! '
