Rations were scarcely issued, and the men about preparing supper, when rumors that the enemy had been encountered that day near Gettysburg absorbed every other interest, and very soon orders came to march forthwith to Gettysburg.

A recent government publication on the marketing of cabbage contains, according to one report, 26,941 words. It is noteworthy in this regard that the Gettysburg Address contains a mere 279 words while the Lord's Prayer comprises but 67.

After this urgent protest against entering into battle at Gettysburg according to instructions - which protest is the first and only one I ever made during my entire military career - I ordered my line to advance and make the assault.

Endoskeleton
For a good road map you need
whistling words and biting
flies of porn videos.
You go overboard when you
see a virgin falling from
podium of a hundred smiles.
Sitting in skin only who wants
a tattoo of a butterfly, when
the book goes for a sale?
Gettysburg water for the joints.
Do you need some of it when
the economy has pored off the poems?
A courtesan becomes the bride
of the city. The grooms were many
but no body wants to sit on a mare.

Embedded
How can I write the story
of a battle fought and won,
when lying close beside me
Is the body of my son?
He was ordered to this field,
a place where his unit bled.
Wounded, left to die,
when even surgeons fled.
The sole object of my interest
Is this, my oldest son.
Does it matter Lee was beaten?
That the Union forces won?
All around me is death’s harvest-
for him, a fruitful one.
I will send you home to mother
and be cursed for what I’ve done.
The photographers are roaming
Through the fields of blood and gore
Taking pictures of the fallen.
They are bringing home the war.
(This is the true story of George Wilkinson, a correspondent for the New York Times and his son, Lt. Bayard Wilkinson, late of the army of the Potomac. It is based in part on the article he wrote for the New York Times on 7/4/1863. This day saw Lee defeated and retreating from Gettysburg and the fall of Vicksburg. It was the decisive turning point of the Civil War)

I See (Revised/Reposted)
I see
Death
Lurking
In their eyes....
There on the battlefields
That have a thousand names...
Iwo Jima, San Juan Hill,
Wounded Knee, Gettysburg,
London, Belfast,
Berlin, Africa, Jerusalem,
Viet Nam, Iraq....
The tide never stops....
And I see
Death
Lurking
In their eyes.

March On Comrades, March On
Yonder in the East, our comrades are shouting,
Yonder in the East, our comrades are fighting,
Yonder in the East, our fate they are carving,
March on comrades, march on.
From the East, slogan is echoing,
Scrap automation, allow us due living,
It is bare minimum, is it much asking?
March on comrades, march on.
Make haste comrades, lest we be late,
The fight may be over and seal our fate,
Spurn the enemy with due hate,
March on comrades, march on.
The posterity will curse us if we linger,
Firmly in unison let us march thither,
Smother all those who our progress hinder,
March on comrades, march on.
Let us herald The New Era in,
Whence no one shall trade in empty sermons,
When khadi capped traders shall be banished,
When doing and not talking shall be the criterion,
March on comrades, march on.
What if we perish in the process,
We shall have lived with a purpose,
We shall have met an honoured death,
Our goal so humble, our cause is just;
March on comrades, march on.

Grass
Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo.
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; I cover all.
And pile them high at Gettysburg
And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun.
Shovel them under and let me work.
Two years, ten years, and the passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?
Where are we now?
I am the grass.
Let me work.

Independence and Reconciliation Celebration
It began with heartbreaking remembrance,
the acrid smell of canon fire still in the air
after half a century, the exhausted climb
up Cemetery Hill still felt in their muscles—
They had returned, veterans from both sides,
North and South, to re-enact their movements
on the last of those bloody three days
of the Battle of Gettysburg.
In the final Southern charge of the war~
12,500 Confederate soldiers led by
General George Pickett went straight up
that hill and into the line of fire by Union
troops waiting behind a stone wall.
Pickett lost half his men.
Of the 160,000 Americans
on both sides,51,000 or more
died in those three days
of the Battle of Gettysburg
in our Civil War.
On July 3,1913, the 50th anniversary of Pickett's Charge,
50,000 surviving veterans traveled to the same place
in Pennsylvania,
the youngest among them at 61 and the eldest purported to be 112.
The commemoration ended
with Confederate veterans
walking the path they'd taken
up Cemetery Hill to the stone wall
where Union veterans were waiting
to shake their hands and embrace them.
In 1938, President Franklin Roosevelt
met with nearly 2,000 still living veterans
for the battle's 75th anniversary.
Their average age was 94.
The President dedicated
the Eternal Light Peace Memorial
to commemorate that most truly civil reunion
and reconciliation embrace of 1913.
Today its flame can be seen
from a distance of twenty miles.
On the front of the memorial
are words carved in stone~
'Peace Eternal in a Nation United.'
Though we are in another fractious election year,
through all our fears and differences,
may it be so.
May civility rule with compassion and reason
in creating new paths to peace.
On the hundredth anniversary next year,
may the way ahead be brighter.
May we keep holy the day.

Orders From Headquarters
Mathew 20: 28
Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many
Jesus himself came to follow orders. And a great one too. To sacrifice His life for ours. To save us.
Not many like to take orders. Yet in reality, we take orders everyday. Whether it's work, school, parents, or even sports. We are all obliged to take orders whether we like it or not. Why is that though?
Most of the time we take orders from those we need. For example, your boss at work. You take his orders because you need the money. Or your teachers. You take their commands because you're looking to graduate.
In retrospect, we need to follow God's orders because we need Jesus more than anything in this world. He's our provider, our light, our breath of everyday, our everything.
He gave us orders, and that's to serve Him. So how much more do we need to carry out His orders? Jesus did it. So how much more do we?
These are the orders from headquarters, carry out His commandments, seek Him. Evangelize, and care for others according to His will.
In the Name of Jesus. Amen.

True Love at Last
The handsome and self-absorbed young man
looked at the lovely and self-absorbed girl
and thrilled.
The lovely and self-absorbed girl
looked back at the handsome and self-absorbed young man
and thrilled.
And in that thrill he felt:
Her self-absorption is even as strong as mine.
I must see if I can't break through it
And absorb her in me.
And in that thrill she felt:
His self-absorption is even stronger than mine!
What fun, stronger than mine!
I must see if I can't absorb this Samson of self-absorption.
So they simply adored one another
and in the end
they were both nervous wrecks, because
in self-absorption and self-interest they were equally matched.

I think in the corridors of power these dangerous kinds of orders are issued in a much more vague way, passed down two or three levels of command before they're given to the assassin.

My Father Like Lincoln
MY FATHER LIKE LINCOLN
My father like Lincoln
Lean and tall and dark and depressed
A man capable of simple and great kindnesses-
My father scribbled
On the back of his envelopes
Junk prices-
No Gettysburg Address,
No Second Inaugural
Dollars for deals.
My father weary from work recited himself to sleep,
From the copper- slim volume of Lincoln’s words,
Or the wisdom of Pirke Avot,
No full rest and relief
From never becoming
Like railsplitter Abe
The Greatness he should have been.
And I the son
Now an old man
Far far away
In gratitude for the awkward grace
Of their Integrity,
Write these words of Praise and Love
In their Memory.

Rumors and Lies
Rumors and Lies
Rumors and Lies
Humor no longer there
Wondering how you can bare
Going through the day like you just dont care
Rumors and Lies
Rumors and Lies
You hide in the bathroom
So no one sees you cry
Tears streaming down your face
Wondering how you got to this place...

Preparing To Fly
Im preparing to fly
Under my own steam
Im preparing to fly
Into a dream
Im in love all over again
Im head over heels
I cant even begin
To tell you how it feels
She lives on a rock
Surrounded by light
Shes young and shes wild
And shes treating me right
Im preparing to fly
Under my own steam
Im preparing to fly
Into a dream
I shed some light
I change my address
I havent felt so great
Since I first went west
Ive got brilliant intentions
Unthinkable plans
Ive got sparks and electric shocks
Just exploding from my hands
Im preparing to fly
Under my own steam
Im preparing to fly
Into a dream
Im back in the saddle
Im out in the clear
I got no regrets
Ive got nothing to fear
Ive battled my demons
Come out on top
Im gonna love you as hard as I can
Never gonna stop
Im preparing to fly
Under my own steam
Im preparing to fly
Into a dream
