Alison
Oh it's so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl.
And with the way you look i understand
That you are not impressed.
But i heard you let that little friend of mine
Take off your party dress.
I'm not going to get too sentimental
Like those other sticky valentines,
'cause i don't know if you've been loving somebody.
I only know it isn't mine.
Alison, i know this world is killing you.
Oh, alison, my aim is true.
Well i see you've got a husband now.
Did he leave your pretty fingers lying
In the wedding cake?
You used to hold him right in your hand.
I'll bet he took all he could take.
Sometimes i wish that i could stop you from talking
When i hear the silly things that you say.
I think somebody better put out the big light,
Cause i can't stand to see you this way.
Alison, i know this world is killing you.
Oh, alison, my aim is true.
My aim is true.

Sons And Daughters
There's a place in the city they call the Archway
Where we rented three rooms for a dollar a day
and I worked semi-skilled at the capstans for years
And my wife was a good woman but the love disappeared
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
When a marriage goes down they're the loneliest ones
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
How I hope they can cope with the damage I've done
I found me a band, I went out on tour
So the kids wouldn't know I was with them no more
When they said, "Where's me dad?" She'd say, "He's a star!"
Oh if only stars knew what fools they all are.
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
When a marriage goes down they're the loneliest ones
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
How I hope they can cope with the damage I've done
I got a new contract, I got a new life
No more capstans for me and I've got a new wife
Sometimes she gets angry, says she wants a family
Then that nightmare returns like a ghost haunting me
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
When a marriage breaks up you're the loneliest ones
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
How I hope you all cope with the damage we done

Mr. Philosopher
Old Mr. Philosopher
Comes for Ben and Claire,
An ugly man, a tall man,
With bright-red hair.
The books that he’s written
No one can read.
“In fifty years they’ll understand:
Now there’s no need.
“All that matters now
Is getting the fun.
Come along, Ben and Claire;
Plenty to be done.”
Then old Philosopher,
Wisest man alive,
Plays at Lions and Tigers
Down along the drive—
Gambolling fiercely
Through bushes and grass,
Making monstrous mouths,
Braying like an ass
Twisting buttercups
In his orange hair,
Hopping like a kangaroo,
Growling like a bear.
Right up to tea-time
They frolic there.
“My legs are wingle,”
Says Ben to Claire.

Circle Of Amour
Mary, claire, denise and belle
Best friends as far as I could tell
Chearleaders except 4 denise
She was the wild one
She was the beast
She was the one who named the group
The original gang of 4
Mary, claire, denise and belle
Circle of amore
10th grade central in september
That was a year I remember
On this chilly cold afternoon
I overheard the gang in the locker room
Rendezvous, marys house
Dirty words and wine
Needless 2 say they all spend the day
Just counting time, counting time
Halfway through her history class
Denise she kindly raised her hand and asked
If she could be excused (can I be excused? )
Then she ran from school (ran from school) in a hurry,
The other girls, ooh they knew
This is what friends are really 4
Mary, claire, denise and belle
Circle of amore
Circle of amore
Imagination showed a window (imagination)
On a cold september day (ooh)
Leaves are brown (brown), passion sounds (ooh)
Memory self astray
4 hands in the place where the feet connect
(gang of 4)
Circle of sex
In the vicious race 2 maturity
Theyre almost phased from ecstasy
Sweat upon the necks of dames
Loser in the circle game
Cause memories r worth so much more (so much more)
Mary, claire, denise and belle
Circle of amore
(ooh)
Mary, claire, denise and belle
Mary, claire, denise and belle

Kelly Girls
There was three girls,
Erin, Nora and Claire,
they all had thick wavy hair.
Now they loved to act in plays,
I saw them on the stage.
They were actresses at best,
they were videotaped on my Krendoll set.
They dressed up with costumes on,
colorful playful gowns.
I took them also to a recording studio,
recorded their voices and taped them on video.
They watched me in one of my plays,
I was acting with my doll Melodie Mezoree’
On Claire’s door is picture of Melodie doll,
Claire colored her with markers and all.
Fun times with the Kelly Girls,
I wish them the best in the World.

How It Happened
I got to thinkin' of her--both her parents dead and gone--
And all her sisters married off, and none but her and John
A-livin' all alone there in that lonesome sort o' way,
And him a blame old bachelor, confirmder ev'ry day!
I'd knowed 'em all from childern, and their daddy from the time
He settled in the neighborhood, and had n't ary a dime
Er dollar, when he married, far to start housekeepin' on!--
So I got to thinkin' of her--both her parents dead and gone!
I got to thinkin' of her; and a-wundern what she done
That all her sisters kep' a gittin' married, one by one,
And her without no chances--and the best girl of the pack--
An old maid, with her hands, you might say, tied behind her back!
And Mother, too, afore she died, she ust to jes' take on,
When none of 'em was left, you know, but Evaline and John,
And jes' declare to goodness 'at the young men must be bline
To not see what a wife they 'd git if they got Evaline!
I got to thinkin' of her; in my great affliction she
Was sich a comfert to us, and so kind and neighberly,--
She 'd come, and leave her housework, far to be'p out little Jane,
And talk of _her own_ mother 'at she 'd never see again--
Maybe sometimes cry together--though, far the most part she
Would have the child so riconciled and happy-like 'at we
Felt lonesomer 'n ever when she 'd put her bonnet on
And say she 'd railly haf to be a-gittin' back to John!
I got to thinkin' of her, as I say,--and more and more
I'd think of her dependence, and the burdens 'at she bore,--
Her parents both a-bein' dead, and all her sisters gone
And married off, and her a-livin' there alone with John--
You might say jes' a-toilin' and a-slavin' out her life
Far a man 'at hadn't pride enough to git hisse'f a wife--
'Less some one married _Evaline_, and packed her off some day!--
So I got to thinkin' of her--and it happened thataway.

song - The Long Goodbye
I rarely thought of you
'til you finally broke through
I thought the story was complete
When we talked back in ninety three
I thought that was enough my love
But now love’s legionnaires have come
And Alison I’m thinking of
All the little things too much
Like how your d n a and such
Wove a spiders web of love and touch
into something almost glorious
But rarely could forget
That strange chemistry that crept
Between us, then entangled us
And didn’t understand at first
You know that I was crushed my love
By overwhelming chemicals
But Alison I’m thinking now
‘bout your fingernails and how
Those firetrails of thrill raced round
on my throat, and here, in this far town
and the girl my world turned round without
No, really, it was you
There was nothing I could do
We think that life is ours to choose
But passion rules and cold light rues
Predestination left us cold
And now we watch the past unfold
But Alison I can’t forget
Holding you inside room 10
The lack of light in discotheques
How it felt when dancing to “je t’aime”
How you curled your hair against your neck
And Alison, oh Alison
Here, across the Rubicon
Our long goodbye seems so long gone -
Cat and mouse we blew the game of love -
But yet, something holy lingers on
(With apologies to David Most and Clive Westlake - and also to Metaphor!)
Daughter's Day
Daughters are sweet
Daughters are cute
Protect them please
Lest they get hurt
Daughters are today's truth
And your bygone youth
You too are someone's daughter
And wanted the world
To change in your favour
But the change does not easily occur
And takes a lot longer
So lady,
Shield your precious daughters
For daughters are not just sweet
And not only cute
But a stepping stone
To tommorow's women power.
I wrote this poem for daughter's day, but i am posting it today.

Julie Claire
Oh Julie Claire was very fair,
Yet generous as well,
And many a lad of metal had
A saucy tale to tell
Of sultry squeeze beneath the trees
Or hugging in the hay . . .
Of love her share had Julie Claire
When life was lush and gay.
And then the village wealth to pillage
Came the Teuton horde;
The haughty Huns with mighty guns
And clattering of sword.
And Julie Claire had honey hair
With eyes of soft azure,
So she became the favoured flame
Of the Kommandatur.
But when at last the plague was past,
The bloody war well won,
We clipped the locks of every dox
Who dallied with the Hun.
Each wench with scorn was duly shorn;
Our Marie the shears would weld,
And Julie's head with ringlets shed
Was like a turnip peeled.
But of these days of wanton ways
No more the village talks,
For Julie Claire has wed the Maire
Who clipped her golden locks . . .
Nay, do not try to me I
Must suffer for my sins,
For all agree the Marie must be
The father of her twins.

Well Run Away
We know theyre right when they say were not ready
But all we care is how we feel right now
Well go ahead just the same
Prepare to take the blame
Well run away and get married anyhow
They warned us that we cant live on love forever
But we just tell them well get by somehow
Our problems will be greater
Well worry bout them later
Well run away and get married anyhow
If other kids went through it
Then I know we can do it
If our love is that much stronger
It will last that much longer
It wasnt too long ago when our folks were
Were going through the same thing we are now
But one thing theyre forgetting
A thing theyre not regretting
They ran away and got married anyhow
(ran away and got married)
Anyhow
(ran away and got married)
They ran away and got married anyhow

It seems to me that one thing people do over and over again is try to figure out how to get married, stay married, fall in love, how to rekindle all this stuff. It seems to me to be a pretty eternal theme so I don't know if you can get typecast from making movies about men relating to women. It seems to be what is going on on the planet a lot.

The Ballad Of Father O'Hart
GOOD Father John O'Hart
In penal days rode out
To a Shoneen who had free lands
And his own snipe and trout.
In trust took he John's lands;
Sleiveens were all his race;
And he gave them as dowers to his daughters.
And they married beyond their place.
But Father John went up,
And Father John went down;
And he wore small holes in his Shoes,
And he wore large holes in his gown.
All loved him, only the shoneen,
Whom the devils have by the hair,
From the wives, and the cats, and the children,
To the birds in the white of the air.
The birds, for he opened their cages
As he went up and down;
And he said with a smile, 'Have peace now';
And he went his way with a frown.
But if when anyone died
Came keeners hoarser than rooks,
He bade them give over their keening;
For he was a man of books.
And these were the works of John,
When, weeping score by score,
People came into Colooney;
For he'd died at ninety-four.
There was no human keening;
The birds from Knocknarea
And the world round Knocknashee
Came keening in that day.
The young birds and old birds
Came flying, heavy and sad;
Keening in from Tiraragh,
Keening from Ballinafad;
Keening from Inishmurray.
Nor stayed for bite or sup;
This way were all reproved
Who dig old customs up.
