I love acting. When I'm acting I feel like I'm on vacation. I'm just having a wonderful time. The nightmare is just getting the work to happen.

I love acting with kids, cause they're great acting partners. They're totally present. Even when they're acting, they're still available and you can crack them up or something weird will happen and they'll go with it.

Whats In It For Me
(billy burnette, bekka bramlett, annie roboff)
Thought we had a good thing baby
You pulled the wool over my eyes
Shouldve seen it coming baby
Now all I see is a cool love dying
Honey I dont want to hold you down
Why you gotta own the lock and the key
Oh tell me baby
Good things just dont come around
And you cant have them for free
No not me
Youve been a river of give
And an ocean of take
Darlin for heavens sake
Youve got me up and down and in between
Acting nice then being real mean
Hey
Well you hold me tight then you turn your back
Who could deal with that
You say you want to work it out, boy
Tell me whats in it for me
Youre living in your own world
You act like Im just passing through
Oh yeah
Dont you want to be happy
Dont you know how good I could be
Seems everybodys telling you something
That they know you just want to hear
Oh but you aint gonna hear it from me
Youve been a valley of love
And a mountain of need
Baby, its time you see
Youve got me up and down and in between
Acting nice then being real mean
Hey
Well you hold me tight then you turn your back
Who could deal with that
You say you want to work it out, boy
Tell me whats in it for me
Up and down and in between
Acting nice then being real mean
Well you hold me tight then you turn your back
Who could deal with that
You say you want to work it out boy
Tell me whats in it for me
Youve been a river of give and a mountain of take
Darlin for heavens sake
Youve got me up and down and in between
Acting nice then being real mean
Hey
Well you hold me tight then you turn your back
Who could deal with that
You say you want to work it out, boy
Tell me whats in it for me
Up and down and in between
Acting nice then being real mean
Hey
Well you hold me tight then you turn your back
Who could deal with that
You say you want to work it out boy
Tell me whats in it for me
Oh, in it for me
Whats in it for me
Whats in it for me

I really love to act; I love everything about it. I've never had this addiction to being known. I mean, sure, if you go into acting, there's part of you that is saying, 'I want attention' but I was brought up to work to deserve attention, and it is the work, not the trappings that are important.

If acting hadn't worked out? I never really gave that a lot of thought. Acting HAD to work out. I never gave myself another option. I had no choice.

I think my parents were happy that I'd gone to university and gotten a degree in history so they thought, 'Well if acting doesn't work for him, he can always become a history teacher or something.' Fortunately, the acting worked out.

I learn a lot from acting, but it's not my natural way. I can't help but write; I do it all the time. It's a condition of being for me. I think I am a writer, but professionally I feel drawn to and suited for directing. As far as producing, I like to facilitate other people's good work. With acting I like to be in ensemble pieces.

My Acting
My actions are straightforward,
They are blessed by the lords afterward.
My acts place me in the region of life,
They coordinate my prosperity as an afterlife.
My acting is good, this work is great,
Why do brothers go to assassinate?
Why do actors will their work
When their actual love is going berserk?

That is one of the reasons one enjoys acting. Now and again, you get scenes where you work with somebody really good and you have a good time trying to make it really work and really work well.

Four Letter 'Work' Song
Work me up, work me out, work me flip side down.
Work me here, work me there, work me with renown.
Work me hot, work me greedy,
work me through and through.
Work me to the very marrow,
work me just like I'd work you.
Work me proud, work me late,
work me do not hesitate.
Won't you let me work for you?
Work me til I'm black and blue.
Work me steady, work me needy, work me to a lather.
Work me til my backbone breaks, and the buzzards gather.
Work me in, work me under, work me til I bleed,
Work me over red hot coals, work me like a boss in need.
Work me nasty, work me silly, work me through the clover.
Up down, 'n' in between, into a slipknot sweet Jehovah.
Work me, work me, go ahead.
Work me, work me, til I'm dead.

Love First, Live Incidentally
Zelda was right
Which makes love
The highest purpose
The reason for bein'
If you have love
Life will take care of itself
No worries man
Be happy
If love finds you
Grab a hold
Till your knuckles turn white
And do not let go
If love does not find you
Take a chance
Reach for it
And do not give up
And if you reach and fail
Well, that happens
And it hurts
But you tried
So love first, live incidentally
Love well, live by the by
Love true, live carefree
Love first and live

The most significant piece of advice my father gave me early on about acting was, don't get caught acting. Really believe in what you're doing and then commit to it. Even if it feels uncomfortable, even if you feel that you're gonna look like an ass. It's all acting, but find the truth in a moment as opposed to just pretending you have and rather than trying to act your way out of it.
