It is only by introducing the young to great literature, drama and music, and to the excitement of great science that we open to them the possibilities that lie within the human spirit -- enable them to see visions and dream dreams.

When I read great literature, great drama, speeches, or sermons, I feel that the human mind has not achieved anything greater than the ability to share feelings and thoughts through language.

Have you ever wondered why young people take to music like fish to water? Maybe it's because music is fun. Plan and simple. It opens up their minds to dream great dreams about where they can go and what they can do when they get older.

Great literature, past or present, is the expression of great knowledge of the human heart; great art is the expression of a solution of the conflict between the demands of the world without and that within.

Great Heart
Great heart
By: johnny clegg
1987
Travelling always increases the appetite for new music and I found johnny clegg tapes in the south of france and was immediately hooked on them. Im glad there are still younger artists who writ
Play their own songs that I wish I had written. this is one of them.
(chant)
The world is full of strange behavior
Every man has to be his own savior
I know I can make it on my own if I try
But Im searchin for a great heart to stand me by
Underneath the african sky
A great heart to stand me by
Chorus:
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and keep me by
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under african sky
Sometimes I feel that you rarely know me (sometimes)
Sometimes theres so much you can show me (sometime)
Theres a highway of stars across the heavens
Theres a whispering song of the wind in the grass
Theres a rolling thunder across the savannah
And a hope and a dream at the edge of the sky
And your life is the story of the wind
Your life is a story like the wind
Chorus:
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and keep me by
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under african sky
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
I see the fire in your eyes
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
That beats my name inside
Sometimes I feel that you rarely know me (sometimes)
Sometimes theres so much you can show me (sometime)
(chant)
Chorus:
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and stand me by
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under african sky
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
I see the fire in your eyes
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
That beats my name inside
Sometimes I feel that you rarely know me (ah... sometimes)
Sometimes theres so much you can show me (ay yai... sometime)
Coda:
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
Guk a mzimbo sala nhilziyo
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
Guk a mzimbo sala nhilziyo
Im searching for the spirit of the great heart
Guk a mzimbo sala nhilziyo

Mission
Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
Hold your fire --
Keep it burning bright
Hold the flame
til the dream ignites --
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission
I hear their passionate music
Read the words
That touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart
When I feel the powerful visions
Their fire has made alive
I wish I had that instinct --
I wish I had that drive
Spirits fly on dangerous missions
Imaginations on fire
Focused high on soaring ambitions
Consumed in a single desire
In the grip of
A nameless possession --
A slave to the drive of obsession --
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission...
I watch their images flicker
Bringing light to a lifeless screen
I walk through
Their beautiful buildings
And I wish I had their dreams
But dreams dont need
To have motion
To keep their spark alive
Obsession has to have action --
Pride turns on the drive
Its cold comfort
To the ones without it
To know how they struggled --
How they suffered about it
If their lives were
Exotic and strange
They would likely have
Gladly exchanged them
For something a little more plain
Maybe something a little more sane
We each pay a fabulous price
For our visions of paradise
But a spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission...

Dream Dreams
10,000 angels
rise and sing,
for every soul
that finds a dream -
Let the children of children dream dreams
from heaven on high,
and receive their sweet visions
that never shall die -
Dream dreams, you dreamers
of peace, and love,
beautiful prayers answered
from up above -
All God's children come together
and dare now rise,
Let all your great dreams
come fully alive!
Listen. You shall hear:
the chorus of unnumbered angels in song drawing near,
praising the Grace of dreams
drempt, without fear -

Oh Thank You Great Spirit
Pulling myself out of a dead sleep
With the impression of the dream still fresh in my mind
Before Im even awake, the words, the music were complete
I woke up that mornin
Feelin so rested and young
My mind was clear of all the problems
That been hasslin my head
I couldnt quite understand why
I felt so fine
I felt so free
So beyond it all
As I turned towards the bed
I understood as it all came clear
As I turned towards the bed
I understood as it all came clear
I saw myself lyin there
Didnt have a care
Piece of mind was finally mine
Now free to fly
Into the blue sky
Oh great spirit
Fly away
Oh great spirit
Just fly
Fly
Oh fly away

Lyrics:
When I look so far away
Please don't wake me from my dreams
I'm just wondering who I could be
If I lived inside my dreams
I could be a king or a football star
Drive around in a big sports car
An astronaut or a millionaire
I could do anything or go anywhere
Dream I'm far away
Dream I'm far away
Racing driver or a great politician
A man of power or a man of religion
I could be almost anything
If I could live inside my dreams
Dream I'm far away
Dream I'm far away
Please don't wake me from my dreams
Please don't wake me from my dreams
Please don't wake me from my dreams
When I look so far away
Please don't wake me from my daze
I'm just wondering who I could be
If I lived inside my dreams

Young David The Under Fourteen
With the local football club he plays under fourteen
In their football colours the black, brown and green
He dreams in the A F L he will star one day
Against Australia's finest he will be picked to play.
Everytime I see young David he's with the egg shaped ball
Playing by himself or with other boys in the park for his age he is tall
His dream is to play as number one ruckman for his favourite team Geelong
Enjoying a great victory as he sings the Club song.
Most boys of his age have a wish or a dream
To win a gold medal or play with a top football team
But not all dreams do come true everyone can't know fame
Still it is nice to dream of great things just the same.
He is the top ruckboy in his football team
And as a player of promise he knows local esteem
But few good juvenile players into great players grow
And young David he still has a long way to go.

I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.

Young And Innocent Days
I look back at the way I used to look at life
Soft, white dreams with sugar coated outside
It was great, so great
Young and innocent days
I wish my eyes could only see
Everything, exactly as it used to be
It's too late, so late
Young and innocent days
I see the lines across your face
Time has gone and nothing ever can replace
Those great, so great
Young and innocent days

Not Everyone Can Be Famous
Not everyone can be famous though many yearn for fame
In a World where millions do die without a penny to their name
And that any hope of an egalatarian Human World cannot exist cannot be denied
Whilst the gap between the haves and the have nots is growing ever wide
Their dreams of great wealth and fame millions do pursue
But for many of course such dreams never come true
And many who have great dreams die in poverty
For dreams are just dreams that's how it seems to be
Around the World today in every village, city and town
People daydream of great things of wealth and renown
And though to live in poverty only the saintlike would choose
For one for to win many destined to lose
To achieve in a big way seems a human need
And though many strive for success only few do succeed.

There Is Sadness in Knowing / I Will Never Be Young Again
There is Sadness in knowing
I will never be young again-
Never dream of Love
As if it were the Paradise of the world
Never tremble before so many possibilities
Never be so wholly confused by my own dreams-
The Young have Hope and Beauty
And the First-ness of many things
And I have the pretence of Wisdom
And the regret of one who was never wholly young
even when young.

Oh The Poems
OH THE POEMS AND THE POEMS AND THE POEMS
Oh the poems and the poems and the poems
Oh the love of Literature
Oh all that stuff
I have given my life to-
Words and meanings and feelings
Pages and pages and pages –
What it is all this literary life for?
When out the window out the door
With our eyes we see in an instant other worlds other dreams?
I don’t know and I will never know
And Literature is certainly far more than I can say it is-
Oh the poems and this poem and this day turning grey
And all my life old and old and more old and more old-
Oh why oh why oh why
And always back to God
My last rescue and refuge and escape
I who have read so much Great Literature
And can only write this-
Oh the why and the oh oh oh and the words
And the whole world of Literature
I would belong to and do not.
Oh the words oh the world oh the Literature
Oh God help me please can’t you please help me a little or not?

The fire of desire
Keep alive
In you
The fire of desire
As it only
Brought you to this
Wonder world
And so many
Other great things
Let it be
Any break-through
In science, art or literature
There was a fire of desire
That caused
The event to occur
Keep alive
In you
The fire of desire
But be on guard
To have good control
As the fire
Has the potential
To engulf you
And to devour you
History has
A great list of heroes
Who succumbed to
This very
Fire of desire
Still it is worth
You keep alive
In you
The fire of desire
With lot dreams
In mind
With lot milestones
To cross
With lot wins
To accomplish
With lot days
Ahead
Keep alive
In you
The fire of desire

Proper Anonymity
at the age of fifty
i should have been somebody else
someone great
greater than the sun
famous, rich and
powerful
somebody
bigger than a rock boulder
beside an old mountain
for which travelers look at me
as a great story that they
can always tell to their
children and grandchildren
on the night times of
their lifetime
i could have been a strong river
wider than a lake
bringing all sand and silt and
storing them all
in my own huge basin
where all tourist come and
praise and then plunge themselves
for the unforgettable swim
of their lives
in the watery belly of
my greatness
but at the age of fifty
(just like everyone else
who drown themselves in the alcoholic
contents of their bottles
and who smoke their cigarettes
endlessly like a chimney
in winter)
i am still a nobody
my name is very ordinary
and people who pass by
do not even give a glimpse
as though i am, at least,
a human being
with the face like the moon
boosted by
a crown of stars
i dream,
i dream big, much bigger than your dreams
when i was young
but all my dreams have become wasted
dumped and burned and
in-order to live in peace
i have forgotten all of them
buried them alive
screams drowned six feet below
the ground
this is existence now
it is not i who is the center of this universe
it is the sun or
someone else who still believes that he is the sun
or can be
with all possibilities statistics-wise
the only sun
surrounded by all the planets
and accommodated by
the vast expanse
of space
my mother says i have become a mature man
by this she means
i have accepted what i am and where my place is
i guess we all have the same story
we are finally here
in the greatness and peace of
our own anonymity
in the ordinariness of routine
waiting for our own
chosen (hopefully) happy ending

Dream Song 14
Life, friends, is boring. We must not say so.
After all, the sky flashes, the great sea yearns,
we ourselves flash and yearn,
and moreover my mother told me as a boy
(repeatingly) 'Ever to confess you're bored
means you have no
Inner Resources.' I conclude now I have no
inner resources, because I am heavy bored.
Peoples bore me,
literature bores me, especially great literature,
Henry bores me, with his plights & gripes
as bad as achilles,
who loves people and valiant art, which bores me.
And the tranquil hills, & gin, look like a drag
and somehow a dog
has taken itself & its tail considerably away
into mountains or sea or sky, leaving
behind: me, wag.
