You think, eventually, that nothing can disturb you and that your nerves are impregnable. Yet, looking down at that familiar face, I realized that death is something to which we never become calloused.

When Paybacks Come to Eventually Visit

Punishments conceived,
With thoughtless deeds needlessly done...
Does not accentuate the positive,
For anyone involved with this kind of mischief.
Planted in one's mind,
To slowly dissolve for one's sport and fun.

A pleasure derived,
From this when inflicted...
Returns uncomfortable reactions,
To the ones hosting...
This brand of deceitful wickedness.

And multiplies dissatisfactions...
When paybacks come to eventually visit.
Ensuring emotional and physical receptions observed,
By those deserving doers...
Of this kind of urge upon them purged.

Becoming weakened without remedy...
With empathy for them absent.
And sympathy hidden submerged.
Unsettling and deep this is as it shall be.
To disturb and break those shakened nerves.

Idle Chatter About Your Death Aug 20th,2012

IDLE CHATTER ABOUT YOUR DEATH AUG 20TH,2012
BY
JAMES BREDIN

Why can't we have death-with-dignity installed?
Why are so many Ottawa activists so appalled?
Several US states and European countries have it now,
Could we tell the Supreme Court that we want to be allowed?

Even pompous High Court judges will eventually face death,
Even they too, each one of them, will eventually run out of breath,
Why have they imposed their views; so Canada is no longer grand?
Is it religion or some other ideology or just follow the band?

Why is it so strange to change and relieve the terrible pain of death?
But Death with Dignity could help before we run out of breath,
Sue Rodriguez found out the hard way about this vital matter,
Extreme Lou Gehrig's pain does not allow for idle chatter.

Guilt Can Never Be Left Abandoned

A feeling of guilt,
Comes to attach to a mind...
As if applied to affix with supper glue.
To disturb only the one who knows it.

No matter if the truth is told.
It is going to be there,
To eventually show...
Someone mentally troubled.

Guilt can never be left abandoned,
As easily as a lie one leaves to tell.
Or believes...
In the doing of it.

Truth on the other hand,
When it eventually appears...
Seems never to mind,
To have tolerated a wait with patience.

Death and I

When death comes
I’ll need not love –
Consumed,
No wreath or dove
Could offer me salvation,
Not when I’m no more.

A weathered stone will bear my name –
Identity of once a being
Living out existence in
A world of risk, and never seeing
Sense of why we’re here.

My genes will die away thro’ child –
Hue of eyes and hair, the way of thought,
Will quickly dim with generation –
Bow to future dominance –
Memories of provenance
Resigned to curious few.

When death comes
I’ll need not grace
Below; no grieving face
Will call my resurrection,
Not when I’m at ground –

Death and I so bound.

Canadian Fearful Death,2012

I've known far too many great people who are now long dead,
Some did it painfully without much dignity, which I dread,
And our politicians, priests and judges think this is how it should be,
This was how Sue Rodriguez got her Supreme Court decree.

It's a known fact that you and I will eventually die,
Our dignity in death cannot be arranged and I don't know why,
Something to do with our religions or our Supreme-Court law,
We cannot change this and that of course is a major legal flaw.

And the problem gets larger as we get older and closer to death,
And like Sue Rodriguez, they want us all to lie down and forget,
And the preachers, the pastors and the priests all claim that they are right,
Don't you dare disturb their system and give them a fearful fright.

Orgy

A disease is under my fingernails
It stains me like a tattoo
Back on the rack
Aching w/ time
Your face is familiar
From another crime
And we could swim, we could swim
My little fishes and me
Overgrown senses prickle + spark
The flesh is in the palm of my hand
Back on the rack
Love under will
Your face is familiar
From another kill
A tongue explodes into my mouth
A taste of coma and tears
Back on the rack
My shape of rage
Your face is familiar
From another cage
And we could swim...

Lost

Searching in the crowd
For a resemblance
To no avail
No familiar faces

I once loved
A forbidden love
Oceans separated you from me
Virtually all familiar faces gone

I roam the dessert of life
Feeling all alone
Like a blind man searching
For a familiar face
The sound of your voice
The ringing of laughter shared
Of familiar faces
Barren, empty bossom
Swallowed by the dessert of life
All familiar faces
Passed with time...

Holdin' An Amazing Love

Another guy in line on Highway Nine in a rush
Clocking in and out again I guess I'm just
An average man but these calloused hands
Are holding an amazing love
I have seen treasured dreams turn to dust
That fade away like yesterday that I'll never touch
But fortune's been kind 'cause these arms of mine
Are holding an amazing love
So just hold me closer
And tell me you love me
And that everything is alright
Oh the weight of the world
Rolls off my shoulders
Whenever I look in your eyes
Just another guy pulling in the drive in a rush
Standing at the door's what he's living for and needs so much
Just an average man but these calloused hands
Are holding an amazing love
I'm just an average man but these calloused hands
Are holding an amazing love

Death of a fine romance

Death of a fine romance
~
I had held onto my heart
For as long as humanly possible
But eventually I had to let go
The lonely nights I faced
The times I saw those I liked
Those I believed I may love
Slip beyond my reach
Each night had took its toll
Either they had found someone else
Or rejected my advances
How my heart hurt then cried
Each and every night
How could I keep the pretence
That I was ok with love
When love was absent to me
Eventually the lonely nights
They became too much
Eventually the breaking heart
More than I cared to contend with
Now I am sitting here alone
Drinking to mourn a loss
The death of a fine romance

It's Death Again

It's Death again - He's always there -
Watching, waiting - e'er the stare!
Every time I look behind
Or reach to pull the window blind,
I catch a glimpse of grubby hood -
A little clue to where he stood;
The glint of light that caught the scythe.
Perhaps if I could pay a tithe…
But O! no use, he'll never go.
The adamant phantom; don't you know
He will but wait until it's time
For me to hear His fateful chime? -
The toll that claims my destiny,
To Hail: 'You're next, it has to be…'

When Death

(Yet another early work - one month shy of 17)

When death is coming up your walk,
And you're unaware of his escence,
You invite him in, and have a talk
Which reeks of omniprescence

When death is sitting in your home
And you're enchanted by his smile
He's been to places like Paris and Rome,
You ask him to stay awhile

When death is leaning very near,
And your house is all aglow,
He whispers something in your ear,
You know it's time to go

When death is touching you all around
And he plays within your head,
You cannot see, nor hear a sound,
You know you'll soon be dead

When death becomes a part of you,
In the still of night
There is nothing you can do,
Until you see the light

When death takes you to the place
Where you'll see the light,
You will not find a familiar face,
But you'll be too tired to fight

When death begins to say good bye
And says you're on your own
You watch the light, and then you sigh -
You see how bright it's grown

When death gets up, and walks through the light
(Which feels like half-melted ice)
You follow him through to discover your plight
And find you're in paradise

Beyond Heaven

Death came knocking at my door last
night. And when it left it took with it
my sweet Joan. But last night while I
was shivering in sorrow. A pair of arms
reached out and wrapped themselves around
me, and comforted from my grief. The arms
felt familiar as they increased their embrace on me,
I realized these were the arms of my sweet Joan.
Beyond heaven she reached out to comfort me.
Beyond heaven she reached to let me know
the she was still here with me. Joan and I
have love that cheated death. A love
that reaches beyond heaven.

Interactive Poetry

when i wake up this morning
sleep is still sleeping
and i slip out of the blanket
not to disturb sleep which
is still soundly snoring

last night we did not pretend
that we were two dead people
sleep was tightly curled upon itself
its arms were not around me
and i could not remember anymore
exactly
whatever happened
to me
or us
if there ever be

this morning
sleep is dead
and i survive
to meet another face of death
in the kitchen
and also in the rest room

and also outside the house
into the road and in the office
where i am working

there are so many faces of death
in my own world
and i am not the loyal subject of sleep
which is death's younger sister
neither am i a friend of death
nor its foe

for out of this everyday encounter
death becomes nothing
but another furniture in the hall
another rock in the garden
part of the numerous leaves in the air
one of those many ' its'
that does not
really disturb me anymore

tonight i will sleep with sleep again
(it is dead and unburied)

i do not name sleep for you
since i too does not know about its true details
or identity
its name its age
when it was born
though i know exactly when it really died
as i have already told you

and what totally is it exactly
the whole truth about its snores and sleep walks and talks
its secrets inside those thick blankets

for in truth in this journey
we sleep with sleep
most of the time
(do i hear ninety percent approving?)

we do not know much of it anyway
or frankly
much less
perhaps

at any rate
(and this may have bored you
to an ending that
bears no significance to your present work)

how can we be interested with such an ordinary matter
that occurs
every minute of the hour?

and what is it that is really worth
writing and
understanding in this world
that does not listen?
(do i hear 95% of you screaming?)

Night Close

Under night close
Death rose to greet me.
I turned; looked back,
Though nothing beckoned -
No one cried or mourned.

Scorned by all
- My fellow race -
I shed the byes to empty space, then
Gazed upon the stony face
Of Death anon, and
So chose our treaty.

The Eyes Of Death

I have stared into the eyes of death with my own
It is hard to see death eye to eye, face to face
Many times death leaves a cold darkness
Other times death leaves a bright light

There are many who may welcome death
They are ready to meet their maker face to face
Others attempt death by their own hand
For whatever reason I can see the torment in their eyes

I have stared into the eyes od death only to see darkness
It has been my own death that I have seen
Many times by my own hand
Others by the hand of others I have seen my death in their eyes

Whatever death is my fate let me face it
Eye to eye as I have seen others no regrets
Even though I would be dead
Let others see that I have made peace with my maker and others

Stateless Bird

The retarded Freedom fighter who realized one day
his bird in the cage should get her retirement soon.
He regrets that her confinement is not fair at all.
A starry night he opened the cage door to let her fly
and he waited till morning,
but the bird still remains in the cage and twittered,
'Dear comrade now only you realized the true freedom
and you opened the door at last,
but I am not familiar with this sky.
Who is going to teach me to fly? .
Please close the door and let me leave alone
at least to get my last breath'.
