You know the puritan ethic that started out four centuries ago in this country, needless to say - at least for the moment - a thing of the past - from what I can tell.

A New England Valentine
O, SWEET little maid of a Puritan line,
O, dear little maid of a Puritan town,
On the morn of that saint whom they name Valentine,
I am asking a boon,—and I pray do not frown;
For, coy little Puritan maid of to-day,
I ask but a quaint little Puritan "Yea."
Look around on the walls of your Puritan home,
Where your prim lady ancestors hang in a row,
In quaint little kerchiefs, in cap and in comb;
Take counsel by them, dear, for well do you know
You would not be here, little maiden, to-day
If they had not spoken that Purtian "Yea."
Your pride is in them, and your faith and your love;
Ah, is there not some overflowing for me?
They lived long ago, and they hang far above,
I am nearer and younger,—Ah, cannot it be?
Then send me an answer this Valentine's day,
But pray it be not that cold Puritan "Nay!"

In the United States there's a Puritan ethic and a mythology of success. He who is successful is good. In Latin countries, in Catholic countries, a successful person is a sinner.

Fifty Years On: for Bastille Day 3
It seemed to me the mortal wrong,
the crime that marked her wretched
lay not in anything she did
but what she had neglected
nor could the woes of centuries
be righted by this course
but die she must, for otherwise
she simply was to dangerous.
The tumbril slowly started down
her shoulders shook from view
through the mud the jeering crowd
followed in pursuit
I thought a moment-should I go?
but so much blood had flowed...
I had no special love for blood
and there was work to do.
Long ago that fateful hour-
today is fifty years
since centuries of hate devoured
centuries of fear.
Maybe better, maybe not
than fifty years ago
the world turns now-but I have got
no less of work to do.

Things that are done, it is needless to speak about... things that are past, it is needless to blame.
Sophia The Psychic She Lived Down The Road
Sophia the psychic she lived down the road
She knew the roads she knew the souls
An Antipythia of the broken heart
Wept ‘don’t know thyself ‘tis too deep’
Know thy paths not entangled they are
‘spread like lilies’ not needing the truth
Sophia the psychic centuries echoed
Tormented by knowing too much
Sophia the psychic she met me one day
I looked into her eyes compassion I smiled
Yes, she started, and she could not stop
Against my smile her intermittent sobs
Sophia the psychic centuries echoed
Tormented by knowing too much
‘Tis passion Sophia I asked
Why are you telling me what I already know
Obsession, Sophia, leave the past in peace
Take some rest and do not worry
Sophia the psychic centuries echoed
Tormented by knowing too much
I am centuries old as well but still too young for your tears
And don’t ask for my coins for I have none
All the pearls of wisdom you’ve already gained
There’s no way for you to be repaid
Sophia the psychic centuries echoed
Tormented by knowing too much

Thats How The Whole Thing Started
(graham russell)
I feel just like your love tonight
So whos to say Im wrong
Ive got to say I feel just right
Its never been so strong
There seems so many points to make
But I feel this is a big mistake
Were so old and this is new
But Ive really got to tell you
I always said that you should remain free
But that was up to you and not to me
I started strong but I met someone
You know how long its been
Thats how the whole thing started
Thats how the whole thing started
(chorus)
Thats how the whole thing started
Thats how the whole thing started
Thats how the whole thing started
Thats how the whole thing started
(repeat)
Baby, baby its wrong
But Ive been in and out of love so long
Here we stand not more than friends
I broke your heart again
(chorus)
Sit down with me and we can talk about it peacefully
Were under the strain of a losing game
Thats how it must be
Thats how the whole thing started
Thats how the whole thing started
(chorus)
(repeat chorus)
I feel just like your love tonight
So whos to say Im wrong
Ive got to say I feel just right
Its never been so strong

The result has been that although few conservative Presbyterian churches actually worship in the Puritan way, the Puritan theology of worship remains the standard orthodoxy among them. This discrepancy sometimes leads to guilty consciences.

Hanging By A Moment
Desperate for changing
Starving for truth
Closer where i Started
Chasing after you
i'm falling even more in love with you
letting go of all i've held onto
i'm standing here until you make me move
i'm hanging by a moment here with you
forgetting all i'm lacking
completely and complete
i'll take your invitation
you take all of me
now.. i'm falling even more in love with you
letting go of all i've held onto
i'm standing here until you make me move
i'm hanging by a moment here with you
i'm living for the only thing i know
i'm running and not quite sure where to go
i don't know what i'm diving into
just hanging by a moment here with you
there's nothing else to lose
there's nothing else to find
there is nothing in the world that can change my mind
there is nothing else
there is nothing else..
Desperate for changing
Starving for truth
Closer where i Started
Chasing after you
i'm falling even more in love with you
letting go of all i've held onto
i'm standing here until you make me move
i'm hanging by a moment here with you
i'm living for the only thing i know
i'm running and not quite sure where to go
i don't know what i'm diving into
just hanging by a moment here with you
just hanging by a moment
hanging by a moment..
hanging by a moment...
hanging by a moment here with you..

It is a mistake to think that the past is dead. Nothing that has ever happened is quite without influence at this moment. The present is merely the past rolled up and concentrated in this second of time. You, too, are your past; often your face is your autobiography; you are what you are because of what you have been; because of your heredity stretching back into forgotten generations; because of every element of environment that has affected you, every man or woman that has met you, every book that you have read, every experience that you have had; all these are accumulated in your memory, your body, your character, your soul. So with a city, a country, and a race; it is its past, and cannot be understood without it.

All My Life
All my life, without a doubt I give you
All my life, now and forever till the
Day I die, you and I will share
All the things this changing world can offer
So I sing, Id be happy just to
Stay this way, spend each day, with you
There was a time, that I just thought
That I would lose my mind
You came along and then the sun did shine
We started on our way
I do recall that every moment spent
Was wasted time but then I chose to lay it on the line
I put the past away
I put the past away
I put the past away
All my life, I will carry you through
All my life, between each hour of the passing days
I will stay with you
There was a time, that I just thought
That I would lose my mind
You came along and then the sun did shine
We started on our way
I do recall that every moment spent
Was wasted time then I chose to lay it on the line
I want this all my life
I want this all my life
I want this all my life
I want this all my life
I want this all my life
I wanted this all my life

All This Information
All of us seem to walk away from everything
It takes a certain amount of originality to describe this place as home
And all of us seem to walk away from everything
It takes a certain amount of originality to describe yourself as interesting
And all of us seem to walk away from everything
It takes a certain amount of originality to describe yourself as home
All this information that we have to choose from
It means nothing to you
It means nothing to you
There's no suggestion that it's needless
When the competition is so needless
It's all so meaningless
There's no suggestion that it's needless
When the competition is so needless
It's all so meaningless
All of us seem to walk away from everything
It takes a certain amount of personality to describe yourself as interesting
And all of us seem to walk away from everything
It takes a certain amount of personality to describe yourself as truly truly honest
All this information that we have to choose from
It means nothing to you
It means nothing to you
There's no suggestion that it's needless
When the competition is so needless
It's all so meaningless
There's no suggestion that it's needless
When the competition is so needless
It's all so meaningless
There's no suggestion that it's needless
When the competition is so needless
It's all so meaningless
There's no suggestion that it's needless
When the competition is so needless
It's so needless when things change

What Do You Say
What do you say
(michael dulaney, neil thrasher)
Stuck at a red light outside an adult bookstore
His son said, daddy, what are all those xs for
As the light turned green he changed the subject fast
He started talkin bout football as they drove right past
Chorus:
What do you say in a moment like this
When you cant find the words oh to tell it like it is
Just bite your tongue and let your heart lead the way
Lets get out of here oh what do you say
Seventeen years old she was out with her friends
They started drinken at some party til she was three sheets to the
Wind
Her momma always told her she can call no matter what
She was cryin on the front steps when her mom showed up
Repeat chorus
Sometimes you got to listen to the silence
And give yourself a little time to think
Her every breath is weaker than the last
And lately when she sleeps she talks about the past
Her husband knows shes tired of holding on
She looks at him and says I want to go home
What do you say in a moment like this
When you cant find the words to tell it like it is
Just close your eyes and let your heart lead the way
Oh what do you say

Needless to Say...
Needless to say...
A way of life we wished conveyed,
Is outdated...
As it should be portrayed.
To slay our fellowman,
To get an upper hand...
Does not sit well,
With those 'deities' in command.
And until we understand that...
We will always find ourselves lost in time.
Trapped.
And where we are now isn't about that at all!
Needless to say...
If we continue to disobey,
We will receive...
A devastation we leave!
And it will not be left as life to live!
Without a thing needed then left to say.
Or a way to forgive our transgressions,
None left can say...
There is another day,
They can be handed to another to give!
Needlessly.

Faith of love
Faith is all I need,
A hatred for love.
As flowers before the seed,
All i ask is forgiveness for my deed.
Faith, yes; Faith is all i need
Making my heart more shallow
And now I let the moon to lead
The rules of revenge now i shal follow.
There used to be a moment,
A moment that started a bend.
A heart that was mellow,
And the past I see down below.
All I needed was faith,
A faith that lost a sign for death.
I love my past, I hate the present,
No more shall my heart follow your scent..

Villanelle of Change
Since Persia fell at Marathon,
The yellow years have gathered fast:
Long centuries have come and gone.
And yet (they say) the place will don
A phantom fury of the past,
Since Persia fell at Marathon;
And as of old, when Helicon
Trembled and swayed with rapture vast
(Long centuries have come and gone),
This ancient plain, when night comes on,
Shakes to a ghostly battle-blast,
Since Persia fell at Marathon.
But into soundless Acheron
The glory of Greek shame was cast:
Long centuries have come and gone,
The suns of Hellas have all shone,
The first has fallen to the last: --
Since Persia fell at Marathon,
Long centuries have come and gone.

Where Do I Come From?
Where do I come from? I do not know,
For it was taken away before I could see. What
is my name? I do not know, because it was taken
away from me before I was born. Who am I? I will never know, for the
culture of who I am and would have been, was
stripped away from lack of understanding. What is my past?
The knowledge to know that people, doing the hating
and despising are the very same people that share
my family roots. Who am I? This I do know a person that
will never have knowledge, of what it would be
like to have a culture and a country, a past with
a positive history! Where do I go? I do not know, for there
is far more prejudice than ever against a people,
with no country and no culture, stuck in the middle
of a melting pot society. What do I do? All I can do is hope,
hope that one day, it won't matter what color
you are, and it won't matter where you come from.
It doesn't matter what you look like, that people
wake up and accept a person by how one is treated. What is my future?
To pass this knowledge to my children, for it
is the only thing left, that was not taken from me.
And it is the only thing of value in this life
I can give, this gift to my child.

America To Me
Many times I think of America,
As a single country of many,
Or, I think of it as the one and only country of the world
This because we have freedom
That we fought for many centuries
And still fight to keep today
Because we are and always will be America!

I Wouldnt Normally Do This Kind Of Thing
Ask me why
Ill say its most unusual
How can I even try to explain
Why today, I feel like dancing
Singing like lovers sing
When I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
Ask me when
Ill say it started when I met you
And ever since then
I knew that the past wouldnt last
For right now I think Im running
A race I know Im gonna win
And I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
If people say Im crazy
I tell 'em that it's true
I let them watch with amazement
Say it wont last beyond breakfast
Its just a phase hes going through
Denigrate or speculate
On what Im going through
Because it isnt the sort of thing Id normally do
Ask me what
Ill say I think its good for you
Believe it or not
I know where its all leading to
I feel like taking all my clothes off
And dancing to the rite of spring
And I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of
This kind of thing
