My own electorate, which I represented for 36 years as an anti-apartheid politician, had a considerable number of Jewish voters supporting me throughout my career.

Anti-establishment Man
Standing by the roadside
Old newspaper in my hand.
Reading yesterdays headlines,
Nothing new, I said its all the same.
Everywhere!
Im the fool of the year and Ive been waiting
Twenty five years of anticipating
Ive seen changes in my land
People Im here to tell you,
Ive been around since the world began.
Well, mr. politician, reform me if you can,
Im an anti-establishment man.
Im tired of your treating
All of my children the same.
Everywhere!
Spending all that money
On a stupid war in vietnam
(when we need it at home)
People Im here to tell you,
I think its bout time that the world began (all over!)
Well, mr. politician, reform me if you can,
Im an anti-establishment man.

Pride is Power
Is pride power?
Think of that woman
Smugly ensconced on her
Backrest.
She would prefer to give
Of her wealth
Than beg for anything.
She is proud
And exerts power
Over her beneficiaries.
Think too about that
Beautiful girl
Who shakes her bottoms
This way and that
On the road;
She woos boys
But does not show it.
She is proud
And exercises power
Over her lovers.
Or is it the politician
Who preaches prosperity
At the political rally
Where voters assemble
After favors received.
He is proud
And exercises power over the electorate.

What Is A Jewish Poem?
WHAT IS A JEWISH POEM?
What is a Jewish poem?
‘Shema’ is a Jewish poem
Perhaps the Jewish poem-
'Shmoneh Esreh' is comprised of Jewish poems
Nineteen prayers as one-
Our history is filled with Jewish poems-
From the beginning with Abraham and Sarah
Those who have given so much beyond our understanding -
Jewish poems everywhere -
Is each Jewish life a poem and a story also?
Or is it only those who give something to our people and history
Who are worthy of Poetry?
I have known many Jewish poems
People the great world will not know the names of
People who whether they walked humbly or not
Made the lives of others better in some way –
Kindness is perhaps the ultimate Jewish poem
And Justice also-
And Jewish poems are not without their contradictions –
As I write this poem in Jerusalem in the land of Israel
I think of the small Jewish world of Troy New York where I came from so many years ago
And miss so many people no longer of that and this world –
Longing for Israel for two thousand years was the Jewish poem
Living here now is a blessing and a gift
I thank God for.

Think of the pastor
Shouting on the pulpit
He will heal the people
And demand their tithes
He is proud
And exercises power
Over his congregation
Or is it the politician
Who preaches prosperity
At the political rally
Where voters assemble
After favors received
He is proud
And exercises power
Over the electorate.

Apartheid
once upon a time
there was a bad time
for the people of africa
as there was apartheid
they were treated very badly
as they were inferior to the whites
they were treated as slaves
they were not given money
not even a single penny
not even some food!
but after some years
they felt pity, and had tears!
they realised their mistake
And banned apartheid
from that moment onwards
there was no more apartheid
for the people of africa
and had equal human rights!
Key Word: -
Apartheid- the policy of treating blacks as inferior to the whites in africa (olden days)

Post-Apartheid
Those with healthy limbs and years of school
Those sheltered under plastic sheets and tin:
Life starts with heartbeats, really nothing more -
Apartheid of the wealthy and the poor.
Those with jobs providing ARVs
The child denied a basic welfare grant:
A random act becomes a lasting fate -
Apartheid of the bureaucratic state.
Those who were slain when soldiers crossed the line
Exiles surviving to return and vote:
Some felled by sudden shots in gambling rooms -
Apartheid of the lucky and the doomed.
Those knowing love and sunlight in their days
Those sleeping in the cells of solitude:
The loneliness within a life apart -
Apartheid of the hurt and healing heart.
A woman traces childhood scars and tears
A man cries, 'liberation once was pure! ':
The wounds of rape and cruelly selfish schemes -
Apartheid of the lost and living dreams.

The Climate Change Converts
After eleven years as Prime Minister it does seem quite strange
That John Howard the ageing politician is talking of climate change
But this after all is an Election year
And of losing the top job is now his greatest fear.
For eleven years warnings of climate change he chose to ignore
But climate change has become an Election issue as never before
Howard the climate change convert on combating climate change now leads the way
On climate change he has become an instant expert and on it has much to say.
His opponent for the top job Kevin Rudd is a climate change convert too
It is amazing what an Election can do
To the climate change realist voters they are trying to appeal
Of climate change suddenly they make a big deal.
The ideas of the climate change experts Howard and Rudd now embrace
As their moment of truth they are about to face
The climate realist voters they are trying to appease
But try as they will not everyone they will please.

Orang-Utan
A large ape disappeared from a Zoo
And he has been to one of his friends a former retired politician.
He complains his friend that he wants to extract a tooth.
They went to a dentist and extracted the tooth.
Then the ape said 'I want to see an ophthalmologist.'
On the way the politician said' Don't spend so much money and I have my old spectacles which I used for my whole political career.'
'Better buy a new one that is much corrupted.' Ape replied angrily.

Stand Aside John Howard
Stand aside John Howard and leave some one else take over you've had your go and you've failed to impress
For seven years you've been Prime Minister of Australia and without you there would be more happiness
The Country would be better off without you and you've clung to power in such a sneaky way
History will treat you less kind than did the Aussie voters
It's time perhaps that you called it a day.
As a leader you have only been divisive and you'll always be
seen as a lesser light
The Country now needs someone with more goodwill a leader whom the people behind can unite
You fought the last election on boat people and you've clung to power by preying on the voters fears
Move over John leave someone else take over you've only caused mistrust in seven years
If you feel the Country cannot do without you here's news for you John you have got it wrong
You are just an old style tory politician and back there in the fifties you belong
Australia will go on no matter who comes or goes and the Country will do nicely without you
Stand aside John and take your huge retirement packet a good
P.M. Aussies are overdue.
Stand aside John Howard for you have had your innings and you've clung to power in your own cunning way
You won your last election at the expense of boat people on the fears of Aussie voters you seized your chance to prey
Your Government demonised misplaced people and as a P.M. you have been so small
And you have sullied an Australian icon the Aussie belief in a fair go for all.
