In my own recent String Trio I attempt to superimpose two quite different sets of formal strategies, both of which, ultimately, refer back to historical precedent.

Among the virtues and vices that make up the British character, we have one vice, at least, that Americans ought to view with sympathy. For they appear to be the only people who share it with us. I mean our worship of the antique. I do not refer to beauty or even historical association. I refer to age, to a quantity of years.

I like to think about stringing songs together like a string of pearls, or a string of beads, but ultimately it has to be stuff that really works with the band, and gives a spin to the older material.

Chose sweet fruits
Is he black in colour?
You can refer to him as a Koel,
not as a crow.
Is she fat in her contour?
You can refer to her as a bear,
not as a pig.
Is one dull in behaviour?
You can refer to one as a cow,
not as an ass.
The sadist only does otherwise.

String theory is an attempt at a deeper description of nature by thinking of an elementary particle not as a little point but as a little loop of vibrating string.

We have gotten away from this double aspect of either putting the character back into historical events or of making a historical event of his very life.

And then as we played more and more as a trio, it became more and more of a situation where we realized we really knew how to use the fourth member of the group - that space. The thing about the trio is that it's the biggest sound you can have with the smallest unit.

Though my books are written from a historical perspective, I have goon so far back that I am in the realm of prehistorical speculation rather than simple historical fact to weave my stories around.

To Lounge On A Couch
Roll to bowl pins blocking to push over.
And sold to clear brush to make a path,
Of obstacles that seem not to end.
With an attempt is all that is needed.
And with a desire that comes with a movement done,
To implement the beginning of a clearing by one.
Sitting back to discuss strategies,
As many choose with a doing...
To expedite their procrastinations,
Is as common as those who propose...
Plans and ideas as to what others should do,
While munching on snacks to lounge on a couch.

String Of Lies
I've got no politics no influential friend or two
I've got ideas but it's nothing I picked up at school
I might be running but I'm never running back to you
And here's a letter from the real world I don't expect you'll reply
And anything you're gonna tell me it's just another lie
I had to wait so long that weeks and months that passed me by
You've got no power and my situation don't apply
You ask me how I am I lie and say I'm doing fine
And with your sugar sweetened alibi there was a truth I never knew
And all the attitude you gave me it's coming back to you
String of lies it's always compromise with you
String of lies you know there's nothing left to do
String of lies it's been a string of lies with you
And here's a letter from the real world I don't expect your reply
And anything you're gonna tell me it's just another lie
String of lies we always compromise for you
String of lies you know there's nothing left to do
String of lies it's been a string of lies with you
String of lies we always compromise for you
And here's a letter from the real world

Juggler trio- My time
Trio of faces
Of my tricky friend
The time
trace of me within the time
As a train with no halt
I travel with my tease friend
Tricky foil
The past; telling
the past is a true friend
as a teacher
take from me follower the true
the present; telling
My tinkle friend is true
Today you can take for true
My tastes real
Take the breath of me
Tap in mind
Tomorrow shed
The light as the torch
tackle of the shade
Dreams my trade
Let me take you through
That is true
Tricky faces
Trio of my company
Teaser is my time
My tale is trilogy
Of my time
and my time trio
Taken lap
Take the lap
Will take in lap
Juggling trio
Juggler tender of mind.

I have an almost complete disregard of precedent, and a faith in the possibility of something better. It irritates me to be told how things have always been done. I defy the tyranny of precedent. I go for anything new that might improve the past.

It was clear to me that the forms of consciousness of our inherited and acquired historical education - aesthetic consciousness and historical consciousness - presented alienated forms of our true historical being.

Our questions and answers are in part determined by the historical tradition in which we find ourselves. We apprehend truth from our own source within the historical tradition. The content of our truth depends upon our appropriating the historical foundation. Our own power of generation lies in the rebirth of what has been handed down to us. If we do not wish to slip back, nothing must be forgotten; but if
philosophising is to be genuine our thoughts must arise from our own source. Hence all appropriation of tradition proceeds from the intentness of our own life. The more determinedly I exist, as myself, within the conditions of the time, the more clearly I shall hear the language of the past, the nearer I shall feel the glow of its life.
