The paintings are transferred from my computer to a disk, and I can hand it to the printer this way; or I can modem the painting to the printer over the phone lines from my house in Hawaii.

Plain Cat

i do not have the mood
for tautologies
and dialectics
and metaphors

so a cat is just a
cat and the printer
is just another printer
and the bloody ink
is just the plain
bloody ink on those
literal floors

but i like your
idea of the cat calling
for a cat's nap ang
perhaps a little pat
on her back

cats too have
birthdays and
metaphors may
convert them
to wives and
concubines

cats and moons
struck and grinning.

My Printer

My printer,
My picture,
My colour,
My muse;
Your printer,
Your picture,
Your colour,
Your muse;
Shared out with others to enhance my image!
But, this joy around me is all about your love.

Preacher Needs More Ram

I took the modem off the podium...
Just before the preacher sneezed!
I asked a doctor in a pew...
If the sneeze would spread disease?
And Doctor Blye looked in my eyes,
As if I was there for church.
I looked him up and down and said,
'I am here doing research! '

I came to hook the preacher up,
To a new connection!
He wanted all his emails sent...
And downloaded to the chatrooms.
I came to hook the PC up for online sessions!
But the preacher is displeased...
'Cause the modem seems to need,
More ram!

I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
I hear the people pat their feet,
When the preacher's sermon's heated!

I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
Oh Lord...
What do I do with the modem?

I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
I hear the people pat their feet,
When the preacher's sermon's heated!

I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
Oh Lord...
What do I do with the modem?

I came to hook the preacher up,
To a new connection!
He wanted all his emails sent...
And downloaded to the chatrooms.
I came to hook the PC up for online sessions!
But the preacher is displeased...
'Cause the modem seems to need,
More ram!

oh Oh OHHH....

I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
I hear the people pat their feet...
When the preacher's sermon's heated!
I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
Oh Lord...
What do I do with the modem?

Ahhhhaaaayyy

I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
I hear the people pat their feet,
When the preacher's sermon's heated!
I'm in the house of the Lord,
And the preacher needs more ram!
Oh Lord...

Oh Lord...
What do I do with the modem?
Oh Lord...
What do I do with the modem?

What do I do with the modem?
What do I do with the modem?

Tackling My Computer

Exchanging my days of quill and ink,
To a computer is a must I think,
The favourite of the current age,
Is just the thing I need, I guage.

A modem, printer and scanner will do,
A camera, mouse and speakers too,
With all these marvellous machines,
Life would be effortless, it seems.

Well.....Switching on is bad enough,
One needs to be a computer buff,
It's questions, questions, all the way,
Call 'help' they say, but 'help' won't play.

It takes months to learn all the technical moves,
Ages to slot things within the right grooves,
Once you've accomplished a single great feat,
Remembering how you got there, in the first place, is no treat.

My memory is not as good as this robot,
In fact it makes me look a very real 'dull clot',
One false move and everything becomes a disaster,
However can one end up feeling the master.

I never had problems with my old quill and ink,
Whatever we wrote, we relied on our 'quink', *
Everything stable, everything calm,
Everything tackled with no kind of alarm.

No stress, no anger, no frustration, no curses,
One simple poised instrument doing the 'verses',
My pen who never argued with me,
Would do the job handsomely for no extra fee.

Is this machine a friend or a foe,
I don't think I will ever know,
But I won't give in though, to it's power,
I won't be bullied and I won't cower.

I will achieve and I'll win the day,
A computer 'buff' is here to stay,
But my quill and my ink stay by my side,
In case on my robot my way is 'denied'.

The Printer's Error

Fellow compositors
and pressworkers!

I, Chief Printer
Frank Steinman,
having worked fifty-
seven years at my trade,
and served five years
as president
of the Holliston
Printer's Council,
being of sound mind
though near death,
leave this testimonial
concerning the nature
of printers' errors.

First: I hold that all books
and all printed
matter have
errors, obvious or no,
and that these are their
most significant moments,
not to be tampered with
by the vanity and folly
of ignorant, academic
textual editors.
Second: I hold that there are
three types of errors, in ascending
order of importance:
One: chance errors
of the printer's trembling hand
not to be corrected incautiously
by foolish professors
and other such rabble
because trembling is part
of divine creation itself.

Two: silent, cool sabotage
by the printer,
the manual laborer
whose protests
have at times taken this
historical form,
covert interferences
not to be corrected
censoriously by the hand
of the second and far
more ignorant saboteur,
the textual editor.
Three: errors
from the touch of God,
divine and often
obscure corrections
of whole books by
nearly unnoticed changes
of single letters
sometimes meaningful but
about which the less said
by preemptive commentary
the better.
Third: I hold that all three
sorts of error,
errors by chance,
errors by workers' protest,
and errors by
God's touch,
are in practice the
same and indistinguishable.

Therefore I,
Frank Steinman,
typographer
for thirty-seven years,
and cooperative Master
of the Holliston Guild
eight years,
being of sound mind and body
though near death
urge the abolition
of all editorial work
whatsoever
and manumission
from all textual editing
to leave what was
as it was, and
as it became,
except insofar as editing
is itself an error, and

therefore also divine.

Hawaii

Do you wanna go
Straight to hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Straight to hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
I heard about all the pretty girls
With their grass skirts down to their knees
All my life I wanted to see
The island called hawaii
Go to hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Straight to hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
Now I dont know what town youre from
But dont tell me that they got bigger waves
Cause everyone that goes
Comes back with nothing but raves
Thats in hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Thats in hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
And pretty soon this winter
Theyll hold the surfing championship of the year
Surfer guys and girls
Will be coming from far and near
Go to hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Go to hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
And you now (honolulu, waikiki)
You wanna live hanah lee
(do you wanna come along with me)
Ooo ooo ooo (honolulu, waikiki)
Ooo ooo ooo (do you wanna come along with me)
Ooo ooo ooo (honolulu, waikiki)
Ooo ooo ooo (do you wanna come along with me)
Ooo ooooo (honolulu, waikiki)

Daisy (Fun Poem 118)

I have a little cat named Daisy
who just loves my company.
Whenever I’m on my computer,
she goes to sleep on my printer
on the shelf just above my head.
Whenever I go to print something out
she tries to nick the paper
before it is printed on,
Then when the paper is printed
it has perforations by her teeth.
Now I am beginning to wonder
if she thinks that I read Braille.

Paradise, Hawaiian Style

(words & music by bill giant - b. baum - f. kaye)
Hawaii, u.s.a., hawaii..u.s.a..
Were flyin, comin your way
Aloha, hawaii u.s.a.
Gee its great, to be in that fiftieth state
The land of enchanted dreams
What an isle, where its heaven tropical style
Where love weaves a spell, it seems
Hawaii, u.s.a., hawaii..u.s.a..
Were flyin, comin your way
Aloha, hawaii u.s.a.
Gee what fun, just to swim and surf in the sun
While the trade winds caress the sea
What a sight, those exotic scenes of delight
Are waiting for you and me
Hawaii, u.s.a....hawaii...u.s.a...hawaii..u.s.a....

Computer Age

Cars and trucks
Fly by me on the corner
But Im all right
Standin proud before the signal
When I see the light
I know Im more than just a number.
And I stand before you
Or else we just dont see the other
Computer age computer age
Computer age.
Bikes and vans
Fly by me on the desert
But Im all right
Standing out here in the hot sun
When I see the light
I feel like more than just a number
And I stand before you
Or else we just dont see the other
Computer age computer age
Computer age.
Precious metal lines
Molded into highways
Running through me
So microscopically
Days and nights
Weeks and months and seasons
Rolling through me
So chronologically.
Computer age computer age
Computer age.
I need you
To let me know that theres a heartbeat
Let it pound and pound
And Ill be flying like a free bird
And you need me
Like ugly needs a mirror
And day by day
This horizons getting clearer
Computer age computer age
Computer age.

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

The first time we met you were a kennel maid,
You gave me a tip I got me forecast paid,
You were holding a greyhound in trap number one,
Your white coat was shining in the afternoon sun.
Now we're both together,
We're never gonna break apart, no no,
'Cause we're a happy couple you and me,
With a greyhound at either knee.
I'll have ten shillings to win on Camera Flash, young man,
What dog's that, it's a deuce, look at it.
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
We're a happy couple you and me,
With a greyhound at either knee.
We go to the dog track on Saturday night,
We put all our money on a dog that we like,
A kiss and a cuddle, a hot meat pie,
Two dollar tickets and a starry sky.
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
We're a happy couple you and me,
With a baby on either knee.
Yes it's you little darling,
Yes it's you little darling,
Now it's you little darling,
Now it's you.
Girl, where's me wage packet ?????,
Ah I'll put twenty-five knicker please on Gallop Printer,
Oh, I hope the wife don't find out,
Yes, it's sure to win, isn't it,
Yes, I know, it's a good dog, I saw it run at White City,
Just last week, broke the record, Gallop Printer,
Nice dog, yes, lovely form, lovely buttocks.

Happy Hawaii

Early this morning I drove in the rain
Out to the airport to get on the plane
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
Alice has been there, she said it was fun
Swimming and surfing, enjoying the sun
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
After all Ive had to go through
Im making no plans (making no plans oh-ooh)
But i, but I believe love gives me a second chance
Guess Ive been working a little too hard
Need a vacation, Ill send you a card
From honololu, a greeting from happy hawaii
Its so exciting, why should I pretend
In a few hours the plane will descend
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
I can imagine the beach and the sand
Walking with someone and holding his hand
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
After all Ive had to go through
Im making no plans (making no plans oh-ooh)
But i, but I believe love gives me a second chance, mmm
Ive got a feeling the dream will come true
Somebodys waiting and Ill forget you
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
