That brings me to Dennis Ritchie. Our collaboration has been a thing of beauty.

An Invitation
Dear Ritchie, I am waiting for the signal word to fly,
And tell me that the visit which has suffered such belating
Is to be a thing of now, and no more of by-and-by.
Dear Ritchie, I am waiting.
The sea is at its bluest, and the Spring is new creating
The woods and dens we know of, and the fields rejoicing lie,
And the air is soft as summer, and the hedge-birds all are mating.
The Links are full of larks' nests, and the larks possess the sky,
Like a choir of happy spirits, melodiously debating,
All is ready for your coming, dear Ritchie--yes, and I,
Dear Ritchie, I am waiting.

C++ and Java, say, are presumably growing faster than plain C, but I bet C will still be around.

C was already implemented on several quite different machines and OSs, Unix was already being distributed on the PDP-11, but the portability of the whole system was new.

At the same time, much of it seems to have to do with recreating things we or others had already done; it seems rather derivative intellectually; is there a dearth of really new ideas?

C is peculiar in a lot of ways, but it, like many other successful things, has a certain unity of approach that stems from development in a small group.

Best Thing
Written by james young, dennis deyoung
Lead vocals by dennis deyoung
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Silk and satin make me wonder
Just who I am
To be with you in times of slumber
Makin me a man
I havent known you for a very long time
But its on my mind what I want to do
A trip to the skies we begin to fly
Oo-oooh
All the riches I have taken
From you every night
Pay you back someday with interest
cause your loving makes it right
Yeah
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever, ever had
Oh yeah
Best thing
(repeat to fade)

Bless Me With Those Eyes!
'A thing of beauty is a joy for ever'
Words of Keats one can forget never
What is beauty - beauty is where
One can enjoy here and there, every where!
Grecian urn a beautiful piece
Niagara falls a beautiful place
Silver streaks of water brings us peace
Hills and dales sure nature's grace!
Does beauty lie in the objects seen
Or lie in the eyes of the seer keen?
Beauty seen in the scorching Sun
Beauty felt in the biting cold
Beauty heard in the melody of birds
Beauty smelt in the fragrance of rose
Beauty tasted in the bitterness of neem
Beauty found sure in every mean(s) !
'Beauty is truth and truth beauty
That is all what ye know on earth
And what all ye need to know'
Words of Wisdom
From votary of beauty
And a devotee of Almighty!
Creator of noble beauty
Harbinger of peace and piety
Bless me with those eyes and mind
Beauty in ugliness that they can find!
Beauty of the mind and beauty of the soul
Sure makes one the wholesome whole!
