I was invited to photograph Hollywood. They asked me what I would like to photograph. I said, Ugly men.

A photograph never grows old. You and I change, people change all through the months and years, but a photograph always remains the same. How nice to look at a photograph of mother or father taken many years ago. You see them as you remember them. But as people live on, they change completely. That is why I think a photograph can be kind.

My Photograph
Of all the worldly goods I own,
Of all that I possess,
One photograph means more to me,
Much more than all the rest.
Who took this precious photograph
I couldn't really say;
I only know the subject is
More lovely than the day.
A face so radiant, so serene,
And known and loved so well;
This photograph I hold so dear,
I'd never give or sell.
True beauty comes from deep within,
It's something you can't buy;
It's captured on my photograph,
And cameras never lie.
It may be silly fancy,
And mock me if you will;
But when I choose to look at it
All time is standing still.
I know I'm looking at the past,
But I don't care, you see
My Mother's eyes are filled with love,
And looking right at me.

Michael Caine
Well get ya ya ya
Well get ya ya ya
(I am michael caine)
La la la la la la la la
Hes walking where Im afraid I dont know
I see the firemen jumping from the windows
Theres panic and I hear somebody scream
He picks up useless paper and puts it in my pocket
Im trying very hard to keep my fingers clean
I cant remember tell me whats his name
(my name is michael caine)
And all I wanted was a word or photograph to keep at home
And all I wanted was a word or photograph to keep
The sun is laughing its another broken morning
I see a shadow and call out to try and warn him
He didnt seem to hear just turned away
The quiet fellow follows
And points his finger straight at you
He had to sacrifice his pride, yes
And throw it all away
(I am micheal caine)
And all I wanted was a word or photograph to keep at home
And all I wanted was a word or photograph to keep
His days are numbered he walks round and round in circles
There is no place he can ever call his own
He seems to jump at the sound of the phone
Staring out the window theres nothing he can now do
All he wanted was to remain sane
He cant remer hisemb own name
(my name is michael caine)
And all I wanted was a word or photograph to keep at home
And all I wanted was a word or photograph to keep
All I wanted was a word or photograph
All I wanted was a word or photograph to keep

Hollywood Ending
Did you want it this way
Breaking us down a little at a time
Is it easier now that Im not around
Is it time to draw the line
Well, we dont have to pretend
That its a hollywood ending
Leave it to me
To act like a fool begging you to come back
When I had you I had everything
And now all I have is this photograph
Theres nothing here to defend
Its not a hollywood ending
You dont have to go
No, you dont have to go
You couldve been the star of
My show anytime
No, you dont have to go the trouble with you
The trouble with me
We aint meant to be
Well, we dont have to pretend
That its a hollywood ending
Another hollywood ending
Its not as bad as it seems
A hollywood ending
Its hard to give up your dreams
Another hollywood ending
All that glitters will fade
A hollywood ending
Just like the promise you made
Another hollywood ending
Did you want it this way

You can give some kind of spark of life to a comic that a photograph doesn't really have. A photograph, even if it's connecting with you, it seems very dead on the page sometimes.

There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment. This kind of photography is realism. But realism is not enough - there has to be vision, and the two together can make a good photograph.

Unlike any other visual image, a photograph is not a rendering, an imitation or an interpretation of its subject, but actually a trace of it. No painting or drawing, however naturalist, belongs to its subject in the way that a photograph does.

The Place of Forgotten Memories
For years I’ve put odds and sods up into the roof space,
like old books, photographs, and the odd vase.
When my parents died I also put their memorabilia up there,
and now my loft holds many memories from over the years.
My grandson ventured up there and came down with a photograph,
he asked me why his picture was not in colour, and I began to laugh.
Of course it wasn’t him in the photograph it was his great granddad,
the resemblance was uncanny, which made me kind of sad.
The picture of my granddad was taken at the age of nine,
the same age as my grandson at this particular time.
I remember my granddad well especially in his later years,
and seeing him in my grandson fills me with tears.

The Photograph
Hands old and poor, her back bent and sore,
She lifts from the drawer, the photograph
Though tattered and torn, through years it has worn,
But still bears the form of the man she knew
Her eyes are weak, spilling tears on her cheek
Her lips start to speak to the photograph
She tells him with pride, she still loves him inside
Though years ago died, la da da da
La, la da, la da, la da da, la da, la da da,
La la la da da,
La, la da, la da, la da da, la da, la da da,
La la la da da
And all of the people she knew, who she knows no more
Who dont know the score say,
We wonder why, she never married, such a
Pretty girl she was, such a lovely face she had,
Such a pretty thing she was, once
She turns to her right, to put out the light,
And wishes goodnight to the photograph
Her love, though its strong and lasted this long,
And goes on and on, shes still in love
La, la da, la da, la da da, la da, la da da,
La la la da da,
La, la da, la da, la da da, la da, la da da,
La la la da da

Carrying Your Love With Me
Wherever I go,
I carry your love with me
within a crumpled photograph
tucked in my wallet.
That photograph you gave me
so long ago.
It maybe old and faded,
the corners maybe bent,
but I see in that photo
all that love represents.
Our golden years together,
our happiness and pain,
and our love rescuing us
time and time again.
I remember our courting days
as we raced hand in hand
across the golden sadly beaches
towards our sunset together.
Though you reached that sunset before me,
no doubt I will follow you soon,
and we will be reunited
in each other’s arms.
However, in the meantime,
I have wonderful memories
locked within this old photograph,
and I keep carrying your love with me
wherever I may go.

Ghost
lately ive been thinking
lately ive been dreaming with you
im so resitant to this type of thinking
oh, now its shining through
i was alone for the last time
before my nights vacation with you
alive from the first
now im denied by the ghost of you
you take yourself a photograph and laugh at me
please
i know theres little use in crying
its more wide awake and dying then im used to
i thought wed walk these streets together
now im hoping that ill never have to meet you
step aside from all this anger
and somewhere in between i can feel you
ask me should we try again
im thinking no
yknow, its not what i believe in
its not what i believe in
you take yourself a photograph and laugh at me
please
you make yourself a photograph and laugh at me
please
no i, wanna taste you, love
no i...no i
no i, just wanna taste you, love
standing in your shoes
i turn and now
youre standing bare in my doorway
i only wish that i had been prepared
im gonna have to go along with your way
just take the plastic camera out
its the pants you borrowed in the driveway
alive from the first
now im denied by the ghost of you
make yourself a photgraph and laugh at me
please
you make yourself a photograph and laugh at me
please
no i, wanna taste of love
no i...
i was alive from the first
now im denied by the ghost of you

Photograph
If you want it
You can have it
But you gotta learn to reach out there and grab it
Cause everybody wants some love
Shooting from the stars above
And though my heart will break
There's more than I can take
I could never get enough
If you need it
You should show it
Cause you might play so monastic that you blow it
Cause everybody wants some hope
Something they can barely know
And though my heart will break
There's more than I could take
I could never let it go
Chorus:
It's in the photograph
It's in the photograph
It's in the photograph of love
Cause everybody wants a dream
Something they can barely see
And though my heart will break
There's more than I could take
I could never let it be
(chorus)
If you blew it
Don't reject it
Just re-draw one of the plans and re-erect it
Just re-draw one of the plans and re-erect it
Just re-draw one of the plans and re-erect it

Hollywood
A suburb of Los Angeles, California
Very famous for the motion-picture industry it seems.
I hear they are searching a new actor for an ugly role.
Suddenly I sent one of my old photographs with a resume.
And I got a prompt reply; 'Sorry Sir, you are too ugly for the role.
But anyway we decided to hang your photograph in our studio for future references.'
I responded, 'Thank you very much for your kindness Sir.
And I hope you give me a King's role very soon.'

When I Look At You
When I look at you,
see your smiling face,
your beauty and your grace
in photograph upon photograph
reason tells me that you are only pretty,
but my heart sings another song;
one that captures laughter,
that catches the sparkle of the eye,
that looks romantically at a starry night,
that catches some serenity
at the gleaming firelight
and it becomes a thing
that goes to my centre core,
bringing both joy and pain
and the realization
that you make love real to me.

When Im Five
When Im five
I will wash my face me hands all by myself
When Im five
I will chew and spit tabacco like my grandfather jones
cause Im only four and five is far away
When Im five
I will read the magazines in mummys drawer
When Im five
I will walk behind the soldiers in the may day parade
cause Im only four and grown-ups walk too fast
Yesterday was horrid day, cause raymond kicked my shin
And mummy says if I am good, shell let me go to school in august
Daddy shouted loud at mummy and I dropped my toast at breakfast
And I laughed when bonzo licked my face, because it tickled
I wonder why my daddy cries and how I wish that I was nearly five
When Im five
I will catch a butterfly and eat it and I wont be sick
When Im five
I will jump in puddles, laugh in church and marry my mum
And Ill let my daddy do the washing-up
If I close one eye, the people on that side cant see me
I get headaches in the morning and I rode on freddies tricycle
And everywhere was funny, when I ran down to the sweetshop
Then I fell and bleeded-up my knee and everybody soppied me
I saw a photograph of jesus and I asked him if hed make me five
I saw a photograph of jesus and I asked him if hed make me five
When Im five
When Im five
When Im oah
