What is a country without rabbits and partridges They are among the most simple and indigenous animal products ancient and venerable familes known to antiquity as to modern times of the very hue and substance of Nature, nearest allied to leaves and to the ground.

INDIGENOUS: Our lands are here to welcome
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
INDIGENOUS: As long, as long ago we offer welcome
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
INDIGENOUS: An offering from within deep within
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
INDIGENOUS: Who are your people?
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
INDIGENOUS: Our custom, begins like this
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do no come in peace
INDIGENOUS: From the tops of the gum trees, too
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
INDIGENOUS: Beneath the earth our mother
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
INDIGENOUS: If you share with our traditions
PARLIAMENTARIAN: We do not come in peace
We do not come in peace
Die just be gone

Modern Dancing
Modern, modern, modern, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern
I see you acting modernly with the boys and girls
Exposure breeds discovery in the modern world
The 60's hairdos 90's eyes are just flashing lights
A touch of neon hinting class for the modern night
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern
Mono vision tv face and determined eyes
The clothes are perfect the rips in place just the perfect size
Familiarity breeds contempt but it doesn't show
We've heard the music times before but it still makes you go
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, dancing
....variations to fade....

Jack Davis
A mentor to his race and the pride of his tribe
Jack Davis the poet and Indigenous scribe
The ex stockman from Yarloop in his lifetime knew fame
And in Australian literature his lives as a legendary name
An honourable man as well as a very fine poet
Jack Davis was one who is worthy of note
To natural genius his poems testify
And greatness of him none could ever deny
He passed on in his early eighties some eight years ago
And his legend in death only does seem to grow
Honoured in Australia his and his people's Homeland
The Nature of his Country he did understand
A credit to Australia and his Indigenous Race
In his Country's literature he commands a high place.

The Art of a well-developed genius is far different from the Artfulness of the Understanding, of the merely reasoning mind. Shakespeare was no calculator, no learned thinker; he was a mighty, many-gifted soul, whose feelings and works, like products of Nature, bear the stamp of the same spirit; and in which the last and deepest of observers will still find new harmonies with the infinite structure of the Universe; concurrences with later ideas, affinities with the higher powers and senses of man. They are emblematic, have many meanings, are simple and inexhaustible, like products of Nature; and nothing more unsuitable could be said of them than that they are works of Art, in that narrow mechanical acceptation of the word.

Rabbit
Rabbits, rabbits everywhere
Bigger than a rat
Smaller than a hare
Jump, hop in the grass
Eating carrots
Hoping fast
Rabbits, rabbits fluffy fur
Hunting season
They hustle and stir
Pointy ears, bushy tails
Wet nose
Hind legs down the trail
Rabbits, rabbits into holes
Time for bed
Bless their souls
Now all tucked in and put to sleep
No noise in the hole
Not even a peep

Animal Boy
Gonna kill and destroy
I'm not an Animal Boy
Why don't they understand
I'm not an ape man
Don't have brain damage
I'm not an a wild savage
Don't push me around
Don't bring my head down
Animal Boy
Animal Boy
Animal Boy
I'm not an imbecile
Don't treat me like an animal
I'm not a creature in the zoo
Don't tell me what to do
Animal Boy
Animal Boy
Animal Boy
You don't know what it's like
You don't know how I feel
I don't have a monkey's brain
I'm not an animal
You can't lock me in a cage
This ain't the Stoneage
Better get out of my way
Someone's gonna have to pay
Animal boy
Animal boy
Animal boy
Animal boy

Animal
On reflection, it was not all wine on the wall
It was not all cuts and bruises
Or the pulling out of hair
And the bloodying of nose
And the tearing off of clothes, although
It was really animal, truly animal
There were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
Though it was really animal, truly animal
It could not compare to times we cared
And were in control and less emotional
While the intellect controls the spiritual
The animal respects whats natural
Ying and yang control mans actions
And both extremes are a natural reaction
It was really animal, truly animal,
Well there were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
On reflection it was not all crash and bang
Broken bottles and abuse
Sometimes there were sunsets on the sands
Holding onto caring hands
But there were vampire fangs
As the angels sang
It was ying and yang, oh yeah
It was truly natural, though it was really animal
In a sense it fell into a truly natural romance
Oh yeah,
It was really animal, truly animal
There were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
True love, true love, true love is really animal

Cube
A cube is a shapeless animal,
The causes of its downfall are simple.
Simplicity is a star we call a sphere
But no shapeless animal resides - a cube.
A cube is not needed in our existence,
For to feel this elementary is like an animal
And we are humans, we are playful.
Cubic metres are imagined,
Fighting our existence.
Let our animal nature never be cubic,
What is rigid is not good.
Let the star shine for the good of mankind.

God's Country
God’s country is a place between,
The two great seas.
God’s country is a forest,
Of evergreens and pines.
God’s country is a homeland,
Not tarnished by incredulity,
But shined by hospitality,
God’s country is a hunting ground,
And a young boy’s home.
God’s country is a masterpiece,
Of smelted man and nature,
And of pride, love, and sacrifice.

Nature Is My Guide
I look up at the hills
One of nature’s best
The leaves are turning now
Like an Eagle leaves its nest
The flaming red above me
A majestic color chart
For nature is from God
Right from His soul and heart
I watch as an oil rig
Sucks liquid from the earth
Another part of nature
Another kind of birth
I see the precious church
In which I love to pray
I cling to what I believe in
It brings me happiness today
It’s such a simple formula
A pleasant easy way
Let nature be your guide
For special God given days!

On Modern poetry
On the cover
of those old black hymnbooks
in those old dark churches
you can just about read
'Hymns Ancient and Modern'
As time goes by,
'ancient' gets a longer and longer history
and curiously so too
does 'modern'

Sitting, Waiting
sitting, as simple as sitting on a stair
you look around through dragonfly eyes
from higher places
like a cliff overlooking a village
closer to cotton clouds
patches of hissing
winds up here,
alone,
you sit, sitting is simple, it is not complicated
as waiting which is heavier sometimes with a person who is not
showing some shadows for the coming,
sit,
i sit,
i am sitting viewing a wide horizon, a vast expanse of a field,
some white herons heaving leaves blown from dead trees this summer,
they fly away
from you, they fly away from where you are seated, from your country,
you remain sitting,
sit, like a dog to his master telling him to sit,
sit,
it is simple as being yourself alone, not even waiting
things end in darkness
dust settles finally on the ground after a truck fully loaded with almost
everything leaves
the road heading far away from you,
you are not waiting for anything
you have no time
left for waiting, everything leaves and goes away, always everybody
utters the word goodbye
except these, the rain, the rain, there are many of them,
these hordes of rains
they are coming and you sit and do the last thing possible
listen

In every thing
In every rock, mineral, sand, wild animal, flower and tree
There’s a urge to be free, planted in from primordial times
Under the earth’s crust in granite, basalt, any instance
there’s a build in resistance, from primordial times.
In drops in any water stream
you cannot bridle the inert scream, from primordial times.
to be part of the clouds, the sea, to them to draw near
without any confinement or fear, from primordial times
Every antelope, bird of prey or wild animal
every lion, tiger and mammal, seeks liberty form primordial times.
in grass, the restless wind that blows wild
there are hope and trust like that of a child, from primordial times
Strydom, to where do you want to flee,
for a free existence? You are planted in this country from primordial times.

A Litre Of Wine
A litre of wine
The wine in the glass is full the red liquid arches the slightest
movement and it will spill over and run down the stem like
a bleeding stomach wound trickling down a petrified leg.
I bent down and inhaled the wine no spillage and I wondered
why it is so many people, in fact more and more drink beer
that is no longer a natural brew is it because we are no longer
a part of nature and seek and feel more at ease with man made
products and we will soon have a diet that fits with the work
we are doing, say if you want a double cheeseburger with fries
you first have to work shuffling coal for twelve hours,
but if you only want to sit writing a simple poem about
the country side low fat yogurt for you; if you have written
the poem under the influence of a steak you will be censured,
made to walk in the park and tell everyone you’re a crock of
empty of gold empty of anything a modern society such as
networking banalities and get people to buy what they don’t
need; men get medals and titles for doing that. So what do
I care, but it annoys me that I end up buying a soap which
name I have seen on the television and smell like everybody
else, yeah…isn’t that just nice?

I Am Forbiden
Under this terrible sun I lay to rest,
Mind and heart at it never ending struggle
Who should I embrace, oh spirit of nature.
My self is not content with self,
And I am force to adhere to my lower self.
Where all the ethers turn sour in moments.
Hmm….my tears would not flow,
For these ancient mysteries i must conceal.
From the idle nature of mankind,
Who see reality as it and never enduring to unveil?
Ignorant, false knowledge are the true embodiment
Of this animal nature, in it never ending stupendous nature.
Which I am forbidding to reveal.
I pray god save mankind.

The Vengeance
The Vengeance
There is no war it is all happening on TV, for our
entertainment, I look out of the window and see
no dead bodies, no blood or bombed buildings,
or soldiers prancing about, except Pedro coming
back after hunting rabbits. He hates rabbits since
one chased him and bit his bum, he was twelve
at the time but the indignity made him malicious.
He hunts rabbits in the morning, they hear him
come and hide in burrows, except for the unwise
that think they can make play hide and seek with
him. Pedro is a crack shot and at times bag one,
which is good for us, had he always missed his
hatred may have grown to include us and the war
would move from the TV screen on to our street.
