Sonnet: On Greatness

Greatness is not a thing, much like an art;
Some man turns great if on it he stumbles;
His greatness ceases, if he thinks, he's great;
Great is he truly who tho' great, humbles.

Greatness is not true greatness, self-proclaimed;
Greatness is not what world showers on us;
Greatness is neither got by being claimed.
Greatness is not achieved by making fuss.

Greatness could come if world decides to give;
Greatness will stay if God blesses our work;
Such greatness, God-destined comes while men live;
Greatness can grow even without much luck.

Greatness doesn't come to everyone on earth;
Some men are made great; some are great by birth.

Golden Moments

Now if all my golden moments
Could be rolled into one
They would shine just like the sun
For a summer day
And after it was over
We could have it back again
With credit to the editor
For striking out the rain (very clean)
And all it really needed
Was the proper point of view
No ones gonna bring me down
No ones gonna stop me now
Now I gathered up my sorrows
And I sold them all for gold
And I gathered up the gold
And I threw it all away
It all went for a good time and a song (come on)
The laughter was like music
It did float my soul along for awhile
And all it really needed was the proper point of view
No ones gonna reach me here
No ones gonna know Im gone
You may think I might be crazy
And I guess you might be right
But I know the way I feel today is out of sight
I do not trust your senses to remember your name
Without corrective lenses
Things are never twice the same anyway
And all it really needed
Was the proper point of view
No ones gonna bring me down
No ones gonna stop me now
No ones gonna reach me here
No ones gonna know Im gone

Greatness

You want to be led to greatness.
You believe that it comes,
Without pain and sacrifice.
You perceive it to be a condition taught.
Something instructed or can be bought.
Something delivered upon your acceptance.
But no one known that is considered great...
Waited in anticipation to have it placed,
And presented on a plate as they safely ate!

Greatness isn't something someone takes.
Greatness is announced...
After someone has been trounced,
Through the trenches!

And 'remarkably' survives.
Surprising even the one who is stunned.
This was not a consideration,
In the mind of one who kept focused...
On what at the time,
Needed to be done!

And greatness was bestowed,
By what one did and showed!

Rising to heights,
Inspite of opposition!
And not submitting to a conformity,
That sits and seeks to be led!

Greatness is ahead of those,
Following!
Those feeding,
Upon wishes to be fed!
By that which has been left,
To nibble and taste...
From pioneering explorations!
In a desperation to succeed!
And most times discovered,
In disregard of danger!
In disregard...
Of blood one might bleed!

The Application Of Much Elbow Grease

If I believed everything in life,
Should come to me quick and easy...
I would not have made any attempts,
To accomplish anything.

I'd be more like you...
Complaining and maintaining,
An ability to make new and fresh excuses.
Refusing to listen.
Or accept and move on,
From mistakes I've made.

I'd be like you...
Pretending the only thing I needed,
To boost my self esteem from a routine...
Was a bit of luck.
And a patted stroke on my back,
From someone who offered a shoulder to cry on.

And while you are here...
Let me make this comment absolutely clear.

I will never make it a habit,
To run from one listening ear to another.
Wasting my time or that of others...
Whining about time I don't have,
As I defend every one of my insecurities.

I've witnessed too many seasons,
Hearing how some folks abruptly leave.
To produce nothing but a list of 'what ifs'.
Perceiving they could wish procrastination away.

I've witnwessed too many seasons,
In bloom...
Acknowledging my dreams needed more from me,
Than wishful thinking without sacrifice, dedication...
And the application of much elbow grease!

They who lack talent expect things to happen without effort. They ascribe failure to a lack of inspiration or ability, or to misfortune, rather than to insufficient application. At the core of every true talent there is an awareness of the difficulties inherent in any achievement, and the confidence that by persistence and patience something worthwhile will be realized. Thus talent is a species of vigor.

Education gives us........

Does the education give us more knowledge?
Make intelligence sharp to cut the edge?
Does it inspire intelligentsia to take more pledge?
Is it simply the symbolic gesture in form of badge?

Common sense is prevalent in living body
Can best be used by individual or anybody
What matters most is its application
Wrong use of it may lead to suffocation

Education or knowledge gives you eye to watch
Nose and ears with extra sense to catch
Quarrels avoided and may show the way to patch
Lead to big yield and without proving match

Illiterates have common sense and ability to lead
All the times they will need guidance and feed
Literates can think well ahead and act
Balance approach and enough time to react

Knowledge and power leads to smartness and elegance
It may look as if air is filled with fragrance
Wherever you go, leave the lasting impression
Saves you from down fall and forceful emersion

Nothing to match with ideas and its execution
Nothing will be had even if you to go any institution
It is self assertion and simple approach to solution
Hard even it may be, complete answer with logical dilution

May need its proper use and application
Will earn you laurels and visible citation
Certificates of work and good appreciation
Choosing of correct path with slight or no deviation

It is not easy to go all alone
Enough try to dislodge you with effect of cyclone
Will have to stand on the patchy ground
Act swiftly and fast with little or slight sound

Only knowledge on paper or in mind will not prove
Degrees and qualifications may not lead and improve
Your actions and work may find objection and disapproval
Cry from all over for disqualification and removal

It is like both the side of the coin
Proper use and missteps foil
Image building with strong resolve
Thwarting attempts and finally dissolved

All Of It Is Educational

If education had been a priority,
Its connection to greatness...
Would not have been an elective,
For the selective chosen few to possess.

If education had been a priority,
The providing of it...
Would have been more collective.
Without those costly decisions made,
To leave behind many subjected...
And left to think of themselves as fools.
Like those who have proven to be incompetent.
With abilities to deceive.

If education had been a priority,
Its connection to greatness...
Would not have been an elective,
For the selective chosen few to possess.

And a greatness declared,
Through one's ability to produce weaponry...
Isn't greatness.
That's the height of evil stupidity.
Eventually used to attack its producer.

'Like that mad scientist obsessed,
Who exhumed bodies...
To design his own human beings.
He alone would command their dependency.
But his first and only creation turned on him.
What was his name? '

Frankenstein.

'Are you sure? '

Not really.
So many have been running for political office.

'You refer to Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde.'

Does it really matter when all of them are monsters?

'Yes it does.
Because all of it is educational.
All of it.'
