And these things are pretty much foundational: thou shall not kill, steal, bear false witness. All these things are embedded into the laws we enjoy in our nation.

No images nor idols make
For Roger Ingersoll to break.

Take not God's name in vain: select
A time when it will have effect.

Work not on Sabbath days at all,
But go to see the teams play ball.

Honor thy parents. That creates
For life insurance lower rates.

Kill not, abet not those who kill;
Thou shalt not pay thy butcher's bill.

Kiss not thy neighbor's wife, unless

Thou shalt have one God only; who
Would be at the expense of two?
No graven images may be
Worshipp'd, except the currency:
Swear not at all; for, for thy curse
Thine enemy is none the worse:
At church on Sunday to attend
Will serve to keep the world thy friend:
Honour thy parents; that is, all
From whom advancement may befall:
Thou shalt not kill; but need'st not strive
Officiously to keep alive:
Do not adultery commit;
Advantage rarely comes of it:
Thou shalt not steal; an empty feat,
When it's so lucrative to cheat:
Bear not false witness; let the lie
Have time on its own wings to fly:
Thou shalt not covet; but tradition
Approves all forms of competition.

The Latest Decalogue after Arthur Hugh Clough

The Latest Decalogue

Worship one true God only, who would run to the expense of two?
Your ruin truly will ensue unless you heresy eschew.

Insisting with sincerity in this wise world, where nothing’s free,
no carven icons cruel should we create, except our currency.

We venture here, in vapid verse, the Third Commandment to rehearse, -
swear not at all, for, for your curse, your enemy seems none the worse.

He who the Fourth Commandment penned, my sins and errors must amend,
but, Sir, on Sunday Church attend – ‘twill serve to keep the world thy friend.

Honour thy parents: that is all from whom advancement may befall.
Be prompt to run at beck and call of all who have the wherewithal.

Commandment Six now follows Five, thou shalt not kill, but none need strive
officiously to keep alive, - and thus fulfill ambition’s drive.

Of all the seven sins that sit upon thy soul when Judgement’s writ,
the last, that’s lust, do not commit – for profit seldom comes of it.

Dame Fortune’s smile you would entreat by guile to guild your golden seat?
Then do not steal – an empty feat when its so lucrative to cheat.

Bear not false witness; let the lie have time on its own wings to fly.
Allow your friend himself to tie the noose which round his neck will lie.

Covet your neighbour’s? ‘Tis sedition. In 10th Commandment’s new rendition
anticipating competition, - sedate his horse with expedition!

Sonnet 40: Take all my loves, my love, yea, take them all

Take all my loves, my love, yea, take them all;
What hast thou then more than thou hadst before?
No love, my love, that thou mayst true love call;
All mine was thine, before thou hadst this more.
Then if for my love, thou my love receivest,
I cannot blame thee, for my love thou usest;
But yet be blamed, if thou thy self deceivest
By wilful taste of what thy self refusest.
I do forgive thy robbery, gentle thief,
Although thou steal thee all my poverty;
And yet love knows it is a greater grief
To bear love's wrong, than hate's known injury.
Lascivious grace, in whom all ill well shows,
Kill me with spites; yet we must not be foes.

My Enemies End

TODAY! A MAN STANDS ACCUSED BY ALL!
LO, THE USES OF FAMILY IS DEMEANED!
THEY HAVE GATHERED ALL TO BEAR WITNESS AS FAMILY AGAINST A MAN!
THE MOUNTAIN CAST OF IRON!
THE HILL CAST OF STONE IS HEAPED ON HIM!
YEAH, THEY SERVE A PUBLIC THAT IS AGAINST AN INNOCENT LORD!
HA! WHAT MOCKERY!
SERVANTS NOW JUDGE PRINCES AND LORDS!
THEY CLAIM TO BE PROTECTORS OF ALL!
LO AND BEHOLD, THEY ARE MERCENARIES!
THEY ARE ASSASINS AND RITUALISTS!
WHO HAVE COME TO STEAL, KILL AND TO DESTROY!
WHAT IS THY NAME O BEAST OF NO NATION?
WHO BE THY CREATOR O THIEF OF ANCIENT TIMES?
THY HANDS IS SOAKED RED WITH THE BLOODS OF MURDERED INNOCENTS!
THY CLOAK BE THAT WHICH IS ADORNED BY KNIGHTS!
THY WORDS IS THAT WHICH IS CALLED LAW!
HARK! I SAY UNTO YOU, THY END BE VERY NEAR!
THY SINS HAVE REACHED THEIR BRIM!
THY WICKEDNESS HAVE WEAKENED YOU!
UNFAITHFULL WIVES AND MOTHERS ARE THY STRENGHT!
A DECIETFULL FAMILY IS THY WEAPON!
I AM COME TO SLAY THEE O MORTAL ENEMY OF MINE!

Do not steal another’s name;
Do not steal your neighbor’s fame;
Do not steal next person’s house;
Do not steal someone’s spouse.

Do not steal one’s money;
Do not steal someone’s honey;
Do not steal other’s labor;
Do not steal things from neighbor.

Do not steal another’s job;
Do not steal from poorer mob;

The Ten Commandments

I believed the Ten Commandments,
Were sins we were not to commit.
And I understand them as 'commands'!
And not to be applied as 'we' see fit!

Some live their lives,
As if these are not legitimate.
And comprehending the opposite,
To inflict upon a consciousness...
An increasingly reflected mental misfitness.
With a clear misunderstanding...
That our Creator is not pleased one bit!

These commandments we should take heed.
And immediately revisit!

I am the Lord your God
You shall have no other gods before me
You shall not make for yourself an idol
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
Honor your father and mother
You shall not murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife
You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor

'Look, Yo...
Ain't these 'commandments'?
Ain't these things we suppose to do? '

Noooo! ...yeeeesss, but no!
You are 'not' suppose to do these things.
You are suppose to 'do' these things!

'Oh!
Ooooh!
So, they are commands 'meant'
Not to do what is commanded? '

Let me put this another way!
See my fist?
Even though I am tempted,
To hit you in the head with it...
AND that might bring unto me,
A temporary satisfaction?
Something inside of me,
Is preventing me not to do it.

'Oh,
I see.
Would it be the gun you know I have in my car?
And you know I can command it in minutes? '

Let's just dropp the subject.

'Yeah!
I command we do! '

Sonnet 131: Thou art as tyrannous, so as thou art

Thou art as tyrannous, so as thou art,
As those whose beauties proudly make them cruel;
For well thou know'st to my dear doting heart
Thou art the fairest and most precious jewel.
Yet, in good faith, some say that thee behold
Thy face hath not the power to make love groan;
To say they err I dare not be so bold,
Although I swear it to myself alone.
And to be sure that is not false I swear,
A thousand groans but thinking on thy face,
One on another's neck do witness bear
Thy black is fairest in my judgment's place.
In nothing art thou black save in thy deeds,
And thence this slander, as I think, proceeds.

It's The Little Things

You can burn my house
You can cut my hair
You can make me wrestle naked
With a grizzly bear
You can poison my cat
Baby I don't care
But if you talk in the movies
I'll kill you right there

It's the little things
It's just the little things
Aw it's the little things
It's just the little things
Yeah it's the little things
That drive me wild

I'm like a mad dog
I'm on a short leash
I'm on a tight rope
Hanging by a thread
I'm on some thin ice
You push me too far
Welcome to my nightmare
No more Mr. Nice Guy

You can steal my car
And drive it into the lake
You can stick me in the oven
And put it on bake
You could throw a big brick
Through my window pane
But if I ever hear you ask me
How I got my name

It's the little things
It's just the little things
Aw it's the little things
It's just the little things
Yeah it's the little things
That drive me wild

I'm like a mad dog
I'm on a short leash
I'm on a tight rope
Hanging by a thread
I'm on some thin ice
You push me too far
Welcome to my nightmare
No more Mr. Nice Guy

I've done it all
I mean I been everywhere
I've been beaten
I been stabbed
I been hung
I been burried alive
And I can deal with that
But its the little things
I've done it all
I mean I been everywhere
I've been beaten
I been stabbed
I been hung
I been burried alive
And I can deal with that
Cuz its the little things

It's the little things
It's just the little things
Yeah it's the little things
Just the little things
Aw just the little things
That drive me wild

I'm like a mad dog
I'm on a short leash
I'm on a tight rope
Hanging by a thread
I'm on some thin ice
You push me too far
I'm just a psycho
Pathic psycho
Pathic

I'm like a mad dog
I'm on a short leash
I'm on a tight rope
Hanging by a thread

The Confession

I HAVEN'T always acted good:
I've taken things not meant for me;
Not other people's drink and food,
But things they never seemed to see.
I haven't done the way I ought
If all they say in church is true,
But all I've had I've fairly bought,
And paid for pretty heavy too.

For days and weeks are very long
If you get nothing new and bright,
And if you never do no wrong
Somehow you never do no right.
The chap that daresent go a yard
For fear the path should lead astray
May be a saint--though that seems hard,
But he's no traveller, any way.

Some things I can't be sorry for,
The things that silly people hate:
But some I did I do deplore,
I knew, inside, they wasn't straight.
And when my last account is filed,
And stuck-up angels stop their song,
I'll ask God's pardon like a child
For what I really knew was wrong.

If you've a child, you'd rather see
A bit of temper, off and on,
A greedy grab, a silly spree--
And then a brave thing said or done
Than hear your boy whine all day long
About the things he musn't do:
Just doing nothing, right or wrong:
And God may feel the same as you.

For God's our Father, so they say,
He made His laws and He made me;
He'll understand about the way
Me and His laws could not agree.
He might say, 'You're worth more, My son,
Than all My laws since law began.
Take good with bad--here's something done--
And I'm your God, and you're My man.'

Western Medicine

Monday through Friday, we need our caffeine
To give us enough energy to be
Productive members of society.
We love our acid pot of coffee beans.
Friday through Sunday, we need a vaccine:
Something to kill the lingering debris
Of motivation. We need lethargy,
So we soak in alcohol, get serene,
While failing to realize we poison
Ourselves to enjoy our lives. We forget
What it feels like to see things clear-headed.
We're surrounded by Western Medicine—
And narcotics and television sets—
Making sure diseases are embedded.

Moses Unwritten Commandment

That I've yet to meet a living saint I honestly can say
And old Moses ten commandments are broken every day
The laws of god and laws of man few bother to obey
And all of us grow older though few grow wise as they grey
The lust for power and money the greed in us does stoke
And old Moses ten commandments are there for to be broke
thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife thou shalt not kill or steal
In the twenty first century to many does not appeal
Every man and woman for themselves and it is God for us all
That's Moses Unwritten Commandment the one many best like to recall
In an age of self promotion where greed is seen as okay
For to help the poor and needy few do go out of their way
And though I cannot claim the higher moral ground since I'm not free of taint
In my six decades of living I have never met a saint.

Save Our Souls

Do you think you need to
save our souls?
What makes you think
our souls need saving?

Do you feel you need to
save our souls?
To save your own... wretched neck?

What have you done so wrong
you feel you need to
save our souls so badly?

“Blessings are for the head
of the righteous one, but
as regards the mouth of the wicked
ones, it covers up violence.” Proverbs 10: 6.

“He that is walking in integrity
will walk in security, but
he that is making his ways crooked
will make himself known.” Proverbs 10: 9.

Some of us need
only to go to church;
for weddings christenings or funerals;
driven in our own hearse.

It was Simon Peter who said...
“For a certainty I perceive
that God is not partial,
but in every nation the man
that fears him and works righteousness
is acceptable to him [God].” Acts 10: 34-35.

“For the hearers of the law are not
the ones righteous before God, but
the doers of law will be declared righteous.

For whenever people of the nations
that do not have law
do by nature the things of the law,
these people, although not having law,
are a law to themselves.

They are the very ones
who demonstrate the matter of the law
to be written in their hearts,
while their conscience is bearing witness
with them and, between
their own thoughts, they are being
accursed or even excused.” Romans 2: 13-15.

What bounty payment price
do you expect
for your supposedly unselfishly
saving our souls?

How is it that you do not
yet know that “Hatred is what stirs
up contentions, but love
covers over even all transgressions.” Proverbs 10: 12.

“By loving-kindness and true-ness
error is atoned for,
and in the fear of Jehovah
one turns away from bad.” Proverbs 16: 6.

What then is the inclination
of your heart? And what
does your conscience bear
witness for you to do?

Do you listen to your heart
your conscience?
Do you live by God’s laws
in righteousness?
Or is sin your joy your stumbling toy?

“And do not become fearful of those
that kill the body but cannot kill the soul;
but rather be in fear of him that can destroy
both soul and body in Gehenna.” Matthew 10: 28.

“For what benefit will it be to a man
if he gains the whole world
but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man
give in exchange for his soul? ” Matthew 16: 26.

Sonnet: Take Thou My…

Take Thou my hands and use them as Thy own;
Thou knowest well their optimum usage;
And I might use them almost like a clown!
Abuse/ misuse them ’fore I reach old-age.

Take Thou my eyes and use them as Thy own,
So that they see just things they’re meant to see;
For I might see things, on which Thou couldst frown,
Or fail to see the things I must freely.

Take Thou my mind and use it as Thy own,
My ears and nose and tongue and skin as well;
My thoughts and actions should not let me down;
Let not my soul forever burn in Hell.

Take Thou my soul and use it as Thy own,
Before I sin and Thou must me disown!

Have A Lovely Day

Let our visions lead the way
Let us enjoy each new day

let us have some more fun
Before this day is over and done

For there is no limit for us to enjoy
We can have moments of fun and joy

Because life's grass is still pretty green
And there are many things unseen

There are new promises and adventures gathered
Which are waiting to be fulfilled all together

But to enjoy each moment of a lovely day
We must let our vision to lead our way.

These Things

I have this smile to hide me
And I have this cross to bear
I have your picture that still haunts me like your memory
These things have I
I have these words to lie to me
These stupid songs to share
I have these countless hours to fill the void you left me
These things have I
For all those things I've done
Let you down I apologize
But sorry's hard somehow
Seems so strange it'd be so easy now
But I've got this faith to blind me
And I've got these dreams we shared
And I have the fear that dreams are all I'll have that's
left to me
These things all these things
These things have I
These things all these things
There things have I
