I'd never been to a prom, I had never had the whole high school experience. I think I was kind of an anomaly. I don't think they knew where to put me.

I came from Long Island, so I had a lot of experience at the stick. I played in junior high school, then I played in high school. The technical aspect of the game was my forte. I had all that experience, then I had strength and I was in good condition.
Port Arthur High School Reunion
What do you think about your town since youve left and come back ?
Its fantastic! I was across the river from the club last night, I never had more fun in my life! except sometimes in california I have more fun.
Do you plan to come back soon ?
Oh ? er, er, er, I have no immediate plans, ha ha ha!!
Did you entertain in high school, at the high school, when you went back at the high school ?
Only when I walked down the aisles, man. no, I did, no, I was, er, I was a painter, and a sort of a recluse in high school. Ive changed.
What happened ?
I got liberated! I dont know, I just started to sing and singing makes you want to come out because painting, I feel, keeps you inside, you know ? and once you start singing you just sort of wa
O talk to people more and go out more and, you know, your lifestyles becomes more a come-out, flow-out thing instead of a hold-it-and-be-quiet type.
How were you different from your schoolmates when you were a teenager ?
I dont know, why dont you ask them ?
Did they make you different ?
No.
Otherwise were you different in comparison with them, or were you ?
I felt apart from them.
Did you take a part in football games ?
I think not. I didnt go to the high school prom, and er ...
Oh, you were asked, werent you ?
No, I wasnt. I dont think, I dont think they wanted to take me. till Ill be a hundred and sufferin! its enough to make you wanna sing the blues!

The future is built on brains, not prom court, as most people can tell you after attending their high school reunion. But you'd never know it by talking to kids or listening to the messages they get from the culture and even from their schools.

Loveless Breeze
A man returns
To his childhood home
Thirty years past
A high school prom
Where he danced
With his sweetheart,
Where they walked in flowery parks,
Where he rode his bike
To elementary school.
The elementary school
Has been torn down
And is a weeded lot
Where stray dogs congregate,
The swing-set and merry-go-round
Are rusted in the park,
The childhood sweetheart
Divorced and living
In another city or town.
Today’s smile
Is tomorrow’s frown,
The love that finds a way to escape
May never return
With the breeze that swept it away.

Of Cliques and Monopoly
Doesn't everyone have to forgive themselves
For the half-formed, maladaptive masks
They once wore in youth? In school, I lived for years
Underneath a knitted navy blue cape
All through junior high, worn daily
To disguise newly sprouted breasts
And complementary curves in other places
They must have wondered then
If I had any arms at all, under there?
It was a teenage security blanket extraordinaire
Thank god, the cape finally gave way
Before high school, under it's relentless use.
By high school, I wanted to defy being labeled
Terrified of belonging to one particular sub-group
I lived in a shades-of-blue uniform all year;
Steel blue shirts, navy pants
No bright yelling colors, no makeup..
No school uniform could have been stricter-
I defied both convention and classification
Only my hair was unkempt, always in my eyes
Part of the covert rebellion perhaps:
I was in the army of one.
Since I refused steadfastly to identify with anything
I unwittingly joined ranks with the only group that fit me:
The outcasts. At lunch in the cafeteria; we, the dregs
Of high school society, sat at the edges of the room;
On the very last table; rungs on a ladder going nowhere,
And we fit together like a hinge
Swinging from side to side, as the doors opened,
And more often closed, on our expectations and ambitions:
Only one of us went to the prom
And not the one you would have guessed
One did drugs sometimes, but none of the others ever admitted to it.
I was the closet drinker no one knew about;
Always able to keep a secret, no matter what
My grades were really too high for the outcast group,
But therein lay it's beauty: no where else to go.
I never understood that my decision
To pledge myself to nobody and nothing
Exiled me by default, into the group that nobody wanted to be in
I have always underestimated the effect of decisions
Everything has always been all or nothing; black or white
Which means in monopoly terms, I always had overwhelming
Victories and defeats
And in my now-habitual role of non-conformist,
I have never been
To even a single high school reunion:
Somehow, I think they are not surprised.

In School
in school,
when i saw you
i intuited i have found
my lost world in you
i wish i could act
to be appreciated
by you in school.
in school,
it would be too sad
to narrate the ordeal
i have been through
i wonder if its best
i had met you
in the school.
in school,
though i had not said it
there has been so many ways
that i have shown it
my actions had done
whatever i wanted to say
at school.
in school,
i never thought
being in love
could take me to madness
well, it is better than
leaving me in sadness
in the school.
in school,
when i approached you
i knew i was silly
it was because
suddenly,
i forgot who i was
in school
in school,
why do you sneer
when i am near
it really breaks me
just tell me what to do
to get a room from you
in and out of school.
in school,
sometimes though it is hard
i guess i must let go
some things i wish to have
though good things also
could be found elsewhere
as it has been in school.

Volvo Driving Soccer Mom
Na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na
You know I used to be a bad girl
I got busy in the bathroom at my high school prom
Yeah I used to be a dancer at the local strip club
But now I know my right wing from my wrong
Yeah, yeah
I really used to be a bad girl
I had a threesome with my sister and her boyfriend tom
I know I used to be a real wild child
But now I am a volvo-driving soccer mom
Na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na
I really used to be a bad girl
I got busted for possession of my wizard-shaped bong
I used to love to do the things they tell me not to do
But now Im different--now I sing a new song
I really used to be a bad girl
I got gang-banged in the bathroom at my high school prom
Yes, I used to be a real wild child
But now I am a volvo-driving soccer mom
Na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na
Where do all the porn stars go
When the lights go down?
I wonder where all the porn stars go
cause when you need one, they are never around
I think they moved out to the suburbs
And now theyre blonde, bland, middle-class republican wives
They all have blonde, bland, middle-class republican children
Blonde, bland, middle-class republican lives
Where do all the porn stars go
When the lights go down?
I think I know where all the porn stars go
They all become volvo-driving soccer moms
Na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na

Between High School & Old School
Hey hey
Hey hey
I guess I'm a loner and I don't fit in (No...)
I ain't too comfortable in my skin (Oh...)
An' I don't play well with the others
I'm stuck somewhere between high school and old school
I can't decide between my rules and your rules
Hey hey
Hey hey
Nobody wants me hanging round
Unless it's from a tree in the middle of town
And I'm out of step with the others
I'm stuck somewhere between high school and old school
I can't decide between my rules and your rules
I'm stuck somewhere between high school and old school
So I defy maybe all rules maybe no rules
My clothes don't make me
My hair ain't cut right
And I don't care much
No I don't care at all
I guess my brain is out of sync, I think
I'm stuck somewhere between high school and old school
I can't decide between my rules and your rules
I'm stuck somewhere between high school and old school
I can't decide, I just can't decide
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Aw...

Notes From Chicago... An Open Book.
know what?
to have my own baby
is really an obsession
i made an attempt
w/ a young puerto rican
(now in her 37 yrs)
divorcee in 2006;
she got preggy in 2008
but had a miscarriage after 12 wks! ;
Felt proud but angry!
We ended up the affair last 2009 Feb;
Moved to Chicago Aug 24/10;
filed divorce in Jan/11/11(WIsconsin):
Final judgment last June 10/11;
Now back to solo flight....
(oh the pangs of pride and anger!)
...I want my life to be an open book;
some kind of legacy to
and for the coming generation -
religious and otherwise;
the 'don't follow' kind of thing;
I have an 'open secret' hurting
and disgusting experience
w/c affected my self-formation
and outlooks!
It's an open secret because
the last to know about it is my family!
Not even my own deceased father (6/5/2005)
knew about what happened to me
after they sent me to the parochial high school
in nearby town!
It's what I called a 'betrayal of trust! '

In Love With The 80's (Pink Tux To The Prom)
So it was Jeremy in 1983 in his ocean pacific tee who got a bloody knee
on a skateboard
in the half pipe
in the backyard that tuesday night
and i'm only gonna pierce my left ear
and i've been working on this mustache all summer long
and my favorite band will always be tears for fears
and i'm gonna wear a pink tux to the prom
cuttin class thru the first floor window
he's driving fast cuz he never did a thing slow
and i look up to my big bro cuz in the 80's all the ladies grabbed his hand and couldn't let go
(chorus)
do do do do do pink tux to the prom
do do do do do pink tux to the prom
I am gonna wear a pink tux to the prom
live without a care
of what could possibly go wrong
when you're the president of The Breakfast Club
and you're not hesitant to fall in love
to fall in love,
to throw it away to fall in love with the 80's
I am gonna wear
a pink tux to the prom
live without a care
what could possibly go wrong
I am gunna wear
a pink tux to the prom
live without a care
cuz you threw it away
to fall in love...
with the 80's
(do do do do do do.....)

I never think of myself as any kind of sex symbol, but I get letters from all over, all sorts. It's really cool. I get a lot from inmates, which is kind of scary. But the best was the guy who wanted to send me a plane ticket to fly me to his prom.

What Did You Learn At School Today?
1
What do kids learn
say on the first day at school?
...just some light-hearted verse follows...
2
See it's Tim’s first day
at high school;
see dad’s come to pick up Tim
See all the kids are coming out of school
And you can see Tim too
Do you see Tim?
He is walking
and Dad waves to him
and Tim gets in the car
and Dad says:
“Hi Tim…Did you enjoy school? ”
“Yes, ” says Tim, looking serious
“And what did you learn, Tim
on your first day at high school? ”
“I learned, ” says little Tim
“that all my friends get more pocket money
than I do! ”

Prom
Last night and great moments
For us seniors to go to
Prom
We going have time of our life
Last time we to have fun with each other
In this special night
One last time to dress up, good nice and
Have a good time with each other like this
Get music started
So I can dance
Let’s eat and drink from all dancing we all did
I need a break and get back to dancing afterward
Taking pictures, eat dinner, staying out all night and being at
Prom
Is just amazing feeling and there is no words to describe it
It doesn’t matter what I ride to get to
Prom
As along I am there with friends and enjoying my time
Tonight we can show what we got
I’m not going care, worry and just dance like I mean it
Let get this night going until midnight
Don’t let music stop, keep it going
We will look back on our
Prom
Night and look at memories we have
We didn’t regret it and glad we went and also didn’t miss fun
This is very important night for you and me
I can’t believe I was there and I glad I went
I will never forget it and I was smiling like I never did before
Even thought I wish I was with you baby dancing
This was such a blast time I have at
Prom
