I don't think they knew exactly where they were going with the character, but they lay those stories out ahead of time, so they had some idea where they wanted it to go.

I wanted to build myself a boat
Everyone said that it wouldn't float
As carpentry and boating I do not know

My only requirement for that first story was that there had to be a fight or an explosion on every page. Naturally, no one wanted to publish it, but I liked the character, did a few stories to keep my hand in.

An Idea can change the world, how many

I wanted to be self-sufficient, I wanted to take care of myself, and I wanted to learn. I wanted to travel, I wanted to see the world and have my eyes opened. I wanted to be consistently challenged, and I knew I needed to be creative in some way. The Crossroad
They both were at a crossroad
in where they wanted to be.
The fast lane was the one for him,
the easy pace for she.
Up 'til now they ventured forth
and matched each other's steps.
She awoke one day with the knowing
that these steps were a mismatch.
She could not, would not live this life.
She'd have to start from scratch.
Up 'til now she just went along
though it felt so wrong.

Through every window, we look out

You see, I was told stories, we were all told stories as kids in Nigeria. We had to tell stories that would keep one another interested, and you weren't allowed to tell stories that everybody else knew. You had to dream up new ones.
I love the idea that somebody is going to compare me to my character or think that I am like my character when they see me. I feel like that is a role that I am willing to fulfill.

I always knew I wanted to be a character in the movies. When I was growing up, I had to have a lot of surgery, and I spent a lot of time recovering at home and in the hospital. Watching movies took me away from my own problems and gave me a total escape.
