The character and history of each child may be a new and poetic experience to the parent, if he will let it.

Be a child-parent-adult

To the child, it is a day.
To the parent, it is a night.
To the adult both are inclusive.

The child lives in fantasy.
The parent lives in fallacy.
It is the adult that lives,
Where he is put, in ecstasy.

The child admires things.
The parent criticizes them.
The adult realizes them.

The child appreciates.
The parent deprecates.
The adult rationalizes.

The poet is the child in man.
The priest is the parent in man.
The logician is the adult in man.

Live a child to be youthful.
Live a parent to be awesome.
Live an adult to be credible.

By the meaning of it

We do not live through things,
but by the meanings of it:

At home a parent
carries the image of God
over to a child,
who finds God’s character
displayed in the parent.

a Marriage binds much stronger
than staying together,
when it find the true meaning
of promises and the love that it claims.

a Child goes into the army
and comes back out of it
as a man,
who knows duty and discipline.

Still, if we give love,
its greater than honour
and to teach self-respect.

Nothing New

There will always be war and rumors of war
History and actions are proof to that
What is happening now has happened before
People will always die, and fight and will combat,
Man and woman are meant to suffer and cry
That is the truth and it becomes so transparent
Tears are with them from their birth until they die
But they are meant to love, and then become a parent,
The happiest day in any parent's life
It would be the day that their child is born
A miraculous gift that is given to a man and his wife
And it is given without sadness, shame or scorn,
Sadly the saddest day in any parent's life
Is when they must say goodbye and bury a child
They must live with the sadness and that strife
As from the loss of their child they are beguiled,
An heartbreaking moment in any child's day
Is when they must say goodbye and bury a parent
They weeps their tears their clouds are now gray
Their youth is over and now to them it is apparent,
In the times of peace a son buries his dad
In times of war a father must bury his son
Sadly these deaths occur and it will make one mad
But as they say, there is nothing new under the sun.

The abduction of a child is a tragedy. No one can fully understand or appreciate what a parent goes through at such a time, unless they have faced a similar tragedy. Every parent responds differently. Each parent copes with this nightmare in the best way he or she knows how.

Almost Poetic

It's almost poetic
The way you speak
It's almost poetic
The way you think
The way you sleep and dream
It's almost poetic
The way I feel for you
It's almost poetic
The way we argue
It's almost poetic
When we say goodbye
Not knowing the next time
We'll see each other
You are the curved line
And I am the dot
That creates the question mark..
And it's almost poetic
If it were not so pathetic.

Steve Jobs being adopted

Steve Jobs being adopted had a great affect on him. It is no accident that he made the computer and later the smart phone irresistible. As an infant he had to sell himself, make something that was potentially great yet rejected acceptable, similar to what he did with the computer. No matter how good of adopted parent you have or are, there is always Miss-attunement. Good adoptive parent’s face it, except it and deal with it thus allowing their child to except this reality so they could cope with it in their own way. Most parents from the sixties and prior were like mine, they told their child that they were lucky they did not end up in an orphanage; most adopted children do not have a chance to sublimate their miss-attunement the way Steve Jobs did. He used his skills to transform the inaccessible and incomprehensible computer of his time into an instrument of freedom, of happiness, of creativity. Something as a child he could not experience directly from his parents.

Married But Not A Parent

MARRIED BUT NOT A PARENT

We have a couple living in the upstairs
sound of music, through the windows always blare
their house is full of modern wares,
yet, they are as sad, as having been lost in a desert so bare

a decade of marriage with pills and pilgrimages
cursing remarks befall on them in barrage
for some unknown defects in their human hardware
harvesting a child is to them, the biggest nightmare

one plus one, how much they would spend
with their bank balances growing in leaps and bounds
the purchasing power they have and wield
is not just enough for them, to fish out a child

not every child is the best asset
nor every parent is proud of his product
they need not be in tears - for not becoming a parent
since the patents they produce are sure to bring them to lament

Please, Teach Me

Teach me well the child did say
As to its parent they did speak
As I want to grow up to be the best I can,
So please to me, wont you teach.
I want to learn and I want to be taught
To be the best that I really can,
And when I get older and I am on my own
I will thank you, for creating who I am.
I don't want to lie and I don't want to cheat
And I want everyone to me proud of me
An honest and loyal person I wanna be known
And I want to be as smart as I can be.
I want to be truthful and I want to be trusted
To all my family and my friends
I want devotion to be my middle name
And I want to know nothing of evil and or sin.
You are the one that will affect my life
The child said to its parent as they spoke
Whatever I become, it will be because of you
Whether I swear, or drink, or even smoke.
And when I get older will I be like you
And will I ever have a family of my own
Will I be the roll model for my children then
Or will I leave them when they are all alone.
And when you get older and your hair is gray
The child said to its parent that it loved
Will I turn out the way I wish I didn't
And will you pray for help from GOD above.
The child said its prayer as it went to bed
And then closed its eyes as it went to sleep
Please be the model from which I will learn, they said
And please for me, wont you teach.

A Legacy!

God has given power;
Nature has given character;
Mother has given love;
Father has given knowledge;
Teacher has given personality;
Leader has given inspiration;
Experience has given culture;
Culture has given wisdom;
Meditation has given enlightenment;
Mysticism has given bliss!
“What do you give? ”
I give my poetic legacy
The treasure I have discovered
For the world’s bright future!

The greatest gift a parent can give a child is unconditional love. As a child wanders and strays, finding his bearings, he needs a sense of absolute love from a parent. There's nothing wrong with tough love, as long as the love is unconditional.

I am o.k. you are o.k.

‘I lost my pen’
‘Don’t worry, I shall get you one’
A child like question
And an expected parental reply.
I am o.k., you are o.k.

‘I lost my pen’
‘I know you will do only that’
Parent reply belied the question.
I am o.k. You are not o.k.

‘I lost my pen’
‘You can borrow from me’
A child-like question.
An adult like answer.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘Is the bus late?
‘Which bus comes in time?
An adult seeking an adult
But received a parent reply.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘Is the bus late? ’
‘Yes, heard only ten minutes’
Both responded as adults.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘Let us play hide and seek’
‘Yes, let me hide first’
A child sought from a child
And received it.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘Let us play hide and seek’
‘No, this is not the time’
The reply is parental
And belied the question.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘Let us play hide and seek’
‘Yes. Then we should read’
A child and an adult reaction
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘You should not smoke’
‘Yes. I shall cut it’
A parental question.
An adult reply.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘You should not smoke’
‘First, you cut your chewing’
A parental question
Seeking a child answer
But was belied.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘She should be taught a lesson’
‘ Yes, otherwise she will worsen’
A parent seeking a parent and got.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘I love you.’
‘I can’t forget you.’
Both are adult,
Expecting and receiving
As adults. I and you are o.k.

‘I love you’
‘Shh.. Others may watch”
A child’s reply to a child
Both are o.k.

‘I love you’
‘Bitch! Go to hell; I’ll report’
A parental reply, instead.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘I love you.’
‘I think you misunderstood.’
Both behaved as adults.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

You be the way you are expected.
You are then o.k. to others.
When others fail to be the way
You expected, you reason for it.
Others will be o.k. to you.
Then where is the individuality?

Giving Up Is Hard To Do

Giving up is hard to do.
Even for those who walk away.
Convinced that this is what they've done.

A parent who has had it with a disrespectful child,
Seems to be the first one to come to that child's aid.
Feeling remorse and guilty as to how that child was raised.

The Circle

From parent and child
to friend to child to parent.
I've grown and reflecting back.
The circle is clear to me.

As a child looking up to them.
Then eye to eye
with the coming of age.
Still I looked up to them.

Many the role my parents played
guiding my course through life.
Their status with me
changing as older I grew.

Entering the world of adults
leaving adolescence behind.
Friends confidants
and equals they became.

When times my needs demanded
support direction advice.
Always they were there.
On my parents I could rely.

Taking my place as a parent.
Their wisdom a well I drew from.
Their strength
became a staff I leaned on.

One day to me
it was suddenly clear.
My path through life
followed the footprints they left.

When came the time
in their autumn years.
For safe haven they looked to me.
Their obligations I realized fulfilled.

It was for me now the time
to carry that load
they had gladly borne.
The circle had come full turn.

The birth of poetry for M lady Mary Gordley

The birth of poetry.

Before the advent of the written word.
When all knowledge was passed on orally.
then history relied on memory.
Men had to memorise all that they heard
Perhaps this was the birth of poetry.
The tribal elders found they could recall
in simple rhyming verses best of all.
Easily committed to memory.
Long, long before recorded history.
The elders chose and trained one man to be
The current guardian of their legacy
of knowledge they had garnered carefully.
When all knowledge was passed on orally
Then history relied on memory

A Writing Break

I sit and write
Literary expelling my mind
On thoughts and feelings
In words I sometimes reflect
Seeing my every image
My pretence of character
Both good and bad staring back
Between the lines of the page
There in stories made up
In verse I see captured
Broken up pieces of myself
That others may relate to
Its all a humane experience
Literary coming off the page
In poetic dedication
I sit here and I write
Feeding my obsessive addiction
Now back to writing
