In our first season we had a 22 rating. Today Seinfeld, a hit show, gets a 15. Lost in Space actually had a bigger audience than Star Trek got at that time.

A Foolish Star

A very young star was winking one night,
It captured an audience way below its sight.

It was above, its subjects below,
It had to reach them with a captive show.

How could it span the great distance in space,
So the earth would always recognize this star's face?

There was also the moon it had to outshine,
It wanted to be able to say, the universe is mine.

The star figured out if it turned on the charm,
It would be applauded and adored by all who were born.

It got carried away with its last encore,
It's final, awesome sight was a falling star.

All through time, the greatest of all,
Was not missed till its downfall.

Then it was forgotten and lost in space,
Because another upcoming star took its place.

My father was always very interested in space. I watch Star Trek and all those things, but I always had a different picture in my mind... maybe closer to Alien. I don't see it in space as much as I do see it in different planets, with each having its own strange characters.

If you read my books, especially the Star Trek books and the Quest for Tomorrow books, you'll see in them the core theme of the basic humanistic questions that Star Trek asked.

A Star Deep In the Mind

I see a new star on the horizon;
It's not the Morning Star;
It's a star without light.
This star without the light is the brightest
Because its light stays within.
The biggest star doesn't take any space;
It lives within,
Feeds all other stars, all other matter.
Without space, there is no time,
Without time, there is no aging,
Without aging, there is no death.
A star without light never dies;
It cannot be seen in the outer space;
It can only be sensed in the mind.

Somewhere

somewhere you speak of a star
bigger
thirty times
than our star and you say
you have seen it from your
telescope
where you stand
how the star explodes
and then
gone, leaving just a space,
a patch of
black dot
in your eyes,

i do not wish to understand you further
with your calculations
about the risks, the dangers, the consequences
of what happens
in that distant sky

here i am in my daily cares, i remember
feeding corn to the chickens, or cleaning my car, or
frying my cues,
or simply sitting by the stair
and just merely looking at the passing butterfly
hovering
in the summer air

what do i know about distance?
what do i care about distant stars
how they explode and how
the space starts to become empty, and grow another star again?

what i know of is simple enough
i do not know you
anymore, and i think, i am about to explode
and i think
i may become empty like what you are telling me
about that space left by the exploding star

and i am afraid
i am the kind of person
in this place
of the universe
that does not know how to grow a star again
after an explosion

Eclipse

You and I used to meet the same
Wrapped together in cellophane
We can try to get away
Drift forever, lost in
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Safe... (We're getting better all the time)
You can try to change my day
Lock me up and you watch me fade
You and I can emulate
Drift together, lost in
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Safe... (We're getting better all the time)
Safe... (We're getting better all the time)
Decompress again (Pressure, pressure, pressure...)
Take control again
Connected once again
We're starting to descend
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Safe... (We're getting better all the time)
Safe... (We're getting better all the time)
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Space... (We're getting better all the time)
Safe... (We're getting better all the time)

Star Of My Show

(kenneth gamble / leon huff)
Used to be a time
When i wasn't doin' so good
But that was because i never understood
Just how much in love with me you were
But you paid your dues
Now i'm devoted to you
You're the star of my show
Always want you to do an encore
You're the star of my show, ooh, baby, baby
Used to be a time
When i wouldn't give reaction
Now, baby you're the centre of attraction
See your name shinin' brighter than the sun
Oh, you started at the bottom
And now you're number one
You're the star of my show
Always want you to do encore
You're the star of my show, ooh, hoo, baby, baby, baby, baby
Ooh, baby, baby, baby
Now you're the star, yes you are
You're the star, yes you are
You're the star, yes you are
You're the star, yes you are
Ooh, baby, baby, baby, baby
You're the star in my book
You started at the bottom
Now you're number one
Oh, you're the star in
Oh, yes you are
You're the star in
Yes you are
Baby, baby, baby

Big Time

Suc cess
Im on my way, Im making it
Ive giot to make it show, yeah
So much larger than life
Im going to watch it growing
The place where I come from is a small town
They think so small
They use small words
-but not me
Im smarter than that
I worked it out
Ive been stretching my mouth
To let those big words come right out
Ive had enough, Im getting out
To the city, the big big city
Ill be a big noise with all the big boys
Theres so much stuff I will own
And I will pray to a big god
As I kneel in the big church
Big time
Im on my way-Im making it
Big time big time
Ive got to make it show yeah
Big time big time
So much larger than life
Big time
Im going to watch it growing
Big time
My parties all have big names
And I greet them with the widest smile
Tell them how my life is one big adventure^
And always theyre amazed
When I show them round my house, to my bed
I had it made like a mountain range
With a snow-white pillow for my big fat head
And my heaven will be a big heaven
And I will walk through the front door
Big time
Im on my way-Im making it
Big time big time
Ive got to make it show-yeah
Big time big time
So much larger than life
Im going to watch it growing
Big time big time
My car is getting bigger
Big time
My house is getting bigger
Big time
My eyes are getting bigger
Big time
And my mouth
Big time
My belly is getting bigger
Big time
And my bank account
Big time
Look at my circumstance
Big time
And the bulge in my big big big big big big big

Told to Go to a Heated Place

People are crazed.
And don't know what they want.

They want the government out of their lives.
And yet they want to be protected from terrorists.
As well as those they know,
Who are revealed to be thieves.
Their next door neighbors...
Who have committed petty crimes.
The ones who drive Benzes and Mercedes.

They wish not to pay another tax.
But expect free this and that...
And become angered,
When they spend their last dime.
Wasted on craps.
And other casino traps.

No second best!
They want to be better than the rest.
They want to build and show progress.
They want their stores stocked like packed nests.
They want to dress and stop breaths...
Because they want to look so good!
Moisturized, tanned and...
Buffed.

And they want to pocket huge dollars for doing,
Less than they should.
ALL...
Delivered by the Good Witch from the East,
Glenda!
Remember her from the Wizard of Oz?
Glenda?
The one who promised Dorothy,
If she really wanted...
She could and 'would' get back to Kansas.
Or get that which her heart truly desired.
Just with the clicking of her pumped and Rubied heels.
Three times.
And...
That's all it would take!

'Please let me get back to a credit A rating!
Please let me get back to a credit A rating!
Please let me get back to a credit A rating! '

People are crazed.
And don't know what they want.

They want also to be the first to occupy 'Space'.
You know...
Outer Space?
With much of that 'inner' space between their ears vacant.

They want the government out of their lives.
Day and night,
Loudly they make this clear.
But want their interests protected by those they elect...
Done.
And 'stunned' by the cost,
To maintain their exorbitant delusions.

And those who confront them...
Are told to go to a heated place!
And while there,
To kiss where the Sun does not shine!
