I wake up every morning at nine and grab for the morning paper. Then I look at the obituary page. If my name is not on it, I get up.

Did You Read The Morning Paper
(Nickolas Ashford/Valerie Simpson/R. Monica)
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
There on the front page was a picture
Of a crowd as they watched a parade passing by
And through the haze of last nights sleep
Something familiar caught my eye
There was a couple looking so much in love, yes
They had a front line view
And as I pulled the paper closer
I realized standing next to her it was you
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Now I know why you've been working late each night
And no longer have desire to ever hold me tight
And your busy, busy schedule was all a lie
Oh, even the dream with a bonus, oh just another alibi
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Did you get the news today
Did you read the morning paper
Isn't the picture very clear
Where do we go from here
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headlines
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Oh, what now
Did you read the morning paper
Did you get the news today

Will You Be There
I'm lying beside you just thinking about us
Too tired to go to sleep and too much in love
I know i'm crazy but i can't close my eyes
I'm scared you won't be there in the morning when i rise
Will you be there?
Who do you dream about are you alone in your sleep?
To who will you reach out?
Oh, let it be me
Oh baby, you're my obsession, my addiction, my drug
Don't want to be without you when i wake up
Will you be there in the morning, will you be there when i want you?
Will you be there when i wake up, oh i need you to be there in the morning
Will you be there?
Well, you're so close to me but i feel so alone
The more i touch you the more i want
Don't know what to do about me loving you but i pray to god that you feel it too
You're my obsession, my addiction, my drug, so let the candle grow into a great fire of love
Will you be there in the morning, will you be there when i want you?
Will you be there when i wake up?
I need you to be there in the morning!
I wanna love you forever,
Don't want a love that's now or never
Can't you see you got me down on the floor.
I want more more!
Will you be there in the morning, will you be there when i want you?
Will you be there when i wake up?
Will you be there in the morning?
Will you be there?

Bend & Break
when you when you forget your name
when old faces all look the same
meet me in the morning when you wake up
meet me in the morning then you'll wake up
if only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake
bitter and hardened heart
aching waiting for life to start
meet me in the morning when you wake up
meet me in the morning then you'll wake up
if only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

Father
Father, blessed father,
Its morning again.
I give you, father, myself, father,
Continue your plan.
I know together we can climb mountains in the sky.
No one can stop us when Im standing by your side.
Troubles knocking here again;
Ill tell him jesus has me by his hand.
Hell walk me through.
Father, loving father,
Create in me
A pure love, father, your love, father,
Instill it in me.
I remember the nights Ive cried for you;
Now I only have to die for you;
Thank you, lord, youve made it clear just for me.
I see the light;
Its burning out the night.
Oh, father,
Its morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.
Morning.

The Morning Sad
Wake up and talk to me
Its a long time since last night
I know we said things, the saddest things
And Im not sure it was wise
When the mornings sad
You dont look back
And you sure dont look ahead
The morning sad
You know, the morning sad
The morning sad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Im writing desperate songs
While youre fast asleep inside
I could try to sing
(I could try to bide my time to wake up)
Until it rings
But my voice comes out uptight
When the mornings sad
You dont relax
Youll be ? ? ? your mind
The morning sad
You know the morning sad
The morning sad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
I tried a little
I tried a lot
Im not a window
And youve seen through everything Ive got
Oh, I dont think that Ill be safe
Until everyones awake
Everybody, everybody, everybody, yeah...
So wake up and talk to me
Such a long time since last night
I know we said things, the maddest things
And Im not sure who was right
When the mornings sad
You wont attack
Cause youre much to weak to bite
The morning sad
You know the morning sad
The morning sad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
Never had it so bad
No...
Never had it so bad
Yeah, yeah, yeah...
Never had it so bad

Some Days
Some days are good,
some days are bad,
and some are in between.
We never know which day we’ll have,
until the hidden dice is rolled.
One morning we wake to sunshine,
one morning we wake to rain,
some we wake to be a bit of both.
However, whatever we wake up to,
just be thankful that we wake up.

Dead!
Hush! or you'll wake her. Softly tread!
She slumbers in her little bed.
What do I see? A coffin! Dead?
Yes, dead at break of morning.
No, no, it cannot, cannot be!
I know that I can wake her. See!
She only plays at sleep. Ma mie,
Kiss me, for it is morning.
Look, pretty, look! Within, without,
Snowdrops and hyacinths lie about.
Why don't you clutch them with a shout
Blither than birds of morning?
You used to clap your hands with glee,
When I brought flowers. ``Are these for me?''
Now, now, you neither scent nor see
These incense-buds of morning.
Do you not know me, pet? Speak! speak!
There is no answer in her cheek.
To find her now where shall I seek?-
Seek in the vanished morning!
What can I do to make her heed?
I am crying, love; I am indeed.
Open your eyes and see. What need
To tease me all the morning?
Look! We will sally forth and play;
Ramble, and never ask our way,
Lessons and tasks all put away,
As though it were not morning.
We will do all that you desire,
And I will never, never tire
Of romping with you by the fire,
When 'tis no longer morning.
Your favourite tales, oft told before,
I'll tell you, darling, o'er and o'er;
It never shall be bedtime more,
Will you but wake this morning.
I will not ask you to sit still;
You shall be naughty when you will;
Shall spill my ink and spoil my quill,
And squander all my morning.
Alas! Alas! it is no cheat!
Quiet she lies from face to feet!
No smile, no sigh, no hue, no heat,
No earnest of the morning.
Draw high the sheet above her head.
She liked it, so. Dead? No, not dead.
The angels, hovering round her bed,
Will greet her in the morning.

The Lovely Couple
The Lovely Couple
In a café I hadn’t been to before I ate an omelet with
french fries, it was flat, boring the fries were re- heated.
Near me sat an old couple reading the paper together,
when he got and up walked outside for a smoke, she read
the obituary page, but just before he came back in she
folded the paper back to the page he was on before
leaving. He was interpreting to her what he had been
reading, something about the new president in the USA,
she knew of his views, she had heard them before,
she was listening to his voice, as they were old and near
the end of a blessed lane they had walked together.
Close they sat she held his arm and now they looked young.
It is odd to think if they knew they would live forever they
may have postponed their happiness indefinitely.

It is morning now.
after darkness
like a confusion
the morning comes
with a brighter sun
this time
twilight leaves
like doubt
we think the pain
subsides
It is morning now.
we wash the dirt
on our faces
we dry wet cheeks
with
good morning
towels
It is morning now.
You must stop
believing all the lies
You must wake up
from this stupor
You must meet destiny
Not in your dreams
Touch your hands
with our own hands
Feel the roughness
of realities.

Early In The Morning
Early in the morning and I cant get right
Had a little date with my baby last night
Now its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Well its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Now its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Went to all the places where we used to go
Went to your house but you dont live there no more
Now its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Well its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Went to your friends house but she was out
Knock on your fathers door and he began to shout get out there boy
Early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Went to doogie chain to get something to eat
Waiter looked at me and said you sure look beat
Now its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning (early in the morning)
Well its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Well its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Well its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues

As Things Awake
The crimson hues of morning call,
its fingers touch some but not all.
The golden orb on the horizon wake
intensifies the morning skies.
We watch in wonder
at the beauty of a dawning day.
Soon the quiet of early morn
will be shattered as things awake.
Enjoy the moments of tranquillity
as from the eastern horizon
the morning does wake.

Not Every Morning Is A Poem
NOT EVERY MORNING HAS A POEM
Not every morning has a poem
Not every morning has the light one needs
Not every morning is a new beginning
Not every morning is what morning should be.
Still this morning I will try
As I most often try
To feel from the first step outside
That morning is a new day.
God, how long has it been
With all these days and all this effort
And all these needings to begin again?

Every Morning
My god the years have passed me by
where was I hiding
And then around the world for sometimes
it's a previous now
The morning sun is in my eyes
It doesn't hide the lies
It is not there
The great skies
Happy birthday baby
Happy birthday
Every morning
Every morning in time
we're doing fine
Every morning
Every morning in time
we're doing fine
I don't remember being you
Was it so much for me
I don't remember feeling this great
It was not for me
I paid the price
A sacrifice
It was worth than that
My time has come
I don't(?) feel young
Begin again
Happy birthday
Every morning
Every morning in time
we're doing fine
Every morning
Every morning in time
we're doing fine

The Prize Winner
Under a street lamp post a beggar reads an old paper in the dim light.
And he showed me a page while I was passing him.
It's an obituary notice with a photograph.
'Papa! Who is this? ' I asked.
Then he said; ' It's me child can't you see that gray beard?
And I won the prize, please take me to that drawing place if possible
And I promise you to give the half my son.'
All of a sudden a poem blooms in my unrest mind
And I scribbled on his paper.
* Let the tree grows in the hard soil
Until its last blossom
And pour much water
Then it gives you more fragrance.

An Unturned Page
Each morning we awake
to greet a brand new day.
Each night we go to bed
and the day just fades away.
Everyday in our lives
is like an unturned page
and we are merely puppets
on its enormous stage.
We are guided along paths,
shown the right way to go
as the unturned page get written on
from dawn t dusk
by someone’s guiding hand.
When they’ve finished writing,
we go to bed at night
and sleep until the morning light.
Then a new unturned page appears
waiting for us to travel on.

2008: When You Let Sunlight Work On Your First Draft
We know why the old piece of paper is yellow
It's not because of overuse
With very little written on it
It's been set aside for so long
Not that anyone expected this page
To do anything by itself
He may have had high hopes
When he added a few black lines on white
If he had valued his work
Safely put it away
But it was left exposed
In a corner of the room
Right where the bright morning sun
Not slowed down by the thin glass
Did what he didn' t do
Finished turning the color of the paper
