Abigail Van Buren

It is a sad commentary of our times when our young must seek advice and counsel from ""Dear Abby"" instead of going to Mom and Dad.

Dear Abby

Dear abby, dear abby ...
My feet are too long
My hairs falling out and my rights are all wrong
My friends they all tell me that Ive no friends at all
Wont you write me a letter, wont you give me a call
Signed bewildered
Bewildered, bewildered...
Chorus:
You have no complaint
You are what your are and you aint what you aint
So listen up buster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood
Dear abby, dear abby...
My fountain pen leaks
My wife hollers at me and my kids are all freaks
Every side I get up on is the wrong side of bed
If it werent so expensive Id wish I were dead
Signed unhappy
Unhappy, unhappy...
Repeat chorus
Dear abby, dear abby...
You wont believe this
But my stomach makes noises whenever I kiss
My girlfriend tells me its all in my head
But my stomach tells me to write you instead
Signed noise-maker
Noise-maker, noise-maker
Repeat chorus
Dear abby, dear abby...
Well I never thought
That me and my girlfriend would ever get caught
We were sitting in the back seat just shooting the breeze
With her hair up in curlers and her pants to her knees
Signed just married
Just married, just married...
Repeat chorus

My Dear Lady

You who have the world at your feet
Sit there and tell me you feel so alone
Yet you give your advice so easily
And tell me this is my one and only home
Dear Lady I disagree with you
There are times you will act friendly
Other times you will be so cold inside
How you try to somehow scold me
With your stern voice and angry eyes
Dear Lady I disagree with you
You tell me that one day I'll learn
All my wild ways will lead me wrong
I stand there and shake my head so
Knowing you are more then wrong
Dear Lady I disagree with you

I Keep My Best Advice to Myself

If I had a dime,
For those times...
I did not take my own advice,
I'd be up at least a dollar.
At least.

'That doesn't make sense.
You're saying you take your own advice,
Most of the time.'

Exactly.
The problem is this...
The people I use to give it to,
Have no clue as to its value.

And I am very protective,
Of my own investments.

That's why I keep my best advice,
To myself these days.
And somebody owes me some money,
To have it kept that way.

No more freebees!
Not here.

My dear mom

To my dear mom
How I wish you here
Just for one day
To see your smiling face
And the beautiful gold curls
That hangs loose across your back
To wrap myself in your arms
And feel those hands rubbing
Soothing the pain away
To my dear mom
How I wish just to have
That one day
To pour out my heart and soul
For you to dry up the
Rain of November
How the pain of missing you
Gets worse each and every year
To my dear mom
How I wish you close
To feel your presence
How I want so much to say
I love you-how you meant so much to me
And think of with every passing day
Missing so tremendously
To my dear mom
The only person in the world
I could turn to with any problems
No matter what
The one person in the world
Who knows my pain
Would understand what im going through
And maybe give the advice I seek
How I wish for that one day
To be able to hold you once more
To look in those eyes and say
You are truely missed
My dear mom! ! !

Quatrain #72 - Where do you look, dear friend.......

Where do you look, dear friend, for the answers in life that you seek?
Do you read books and listen to advice when hearing people speak?
Or do you look deep within yourself and discern words of wisdom there?
If we but only accepted the knowledge of what really can be found there!

Sonnet 15

not into a crystal ball do i look
nor chart the future on a palm:
i consult no astrologer's book
or think to turn fate with a wand:

no third party do i seek to temper
fluxing fortunes in love's conquest:
or foreign mediator love distemper
with an alien counsel love's behest:

not to others do i fly for advice,
inquiring into secrets of love's silence,
but keep to myself in single vice,
upon self alone committing violence:

soul turning over love's factions.
discretion permits no other actions.

Nothing That I Do Has You In Hindsight

I do not know who's reality,
You believe I could be living.
Or should accept as blind advice.
As if I seek advice I know I will not like.

I will share this with you without any misgivings...
Nothing that I do has you in hindsight.
Nothing but a wish that you disappear,
From 'my' reality...
To be away from mine and clearly in your own!

Ninon De Lenclos, On Her Last Birthday

So let me have the rouge again,
And comb my hair the curly way.
The poor young men, the dear young men
They'll all be here by noon today.

And I shall wear the blue, I think-
They beg to touch its rippled lace;
Or do they love me best in pink,
So sweetly flattering the face?

And are you sure my eyes are bright,
And is it true my cheek is clear?
Young what's-his-name stayed half the night;
He vows to cut his throat, poor dear!

So bring my scarlet slippers, then,
And fetch the powder-puff to me.
The dear young men, the poor young men-
They think I'm only seventy!

A Dialouge

HE: I am in trouble, give me your advice.
SHE: No, for I'm sure 'twould not be carried out.
HE: It shall, I swear it shall, at any price.
SHE:If that's agreed, what is this all about?
HE:How can I win a woman who is fair
And cold?
SHE:Be colder.
HE:But she's proud as well.
SHE:Be prouder.
HE:But she does not seem to care,
Nor notice when I'm near.
SHE:How can you tell
Whether she does or not, until you've tried
Not being near? Avoid her, let her see
The change, and should chance place you at her side,
Be colder, prouder, civiler than she.
HE: But if she cares...
SHE: Then it will break her heart,
Which will be easier won.
HE: 'Tis too severe
On me: I could not.
SHE:Then you'd better part.
HE:Is this your counsel? Well, good-by, my dear.
SHE:Stay, there's one thing to do before you go.
HE: What?
SHE:lf you really love her, tell her so.
Perhaps you'll find her kinder than you know.

Tam Glen

1 My heart is a-breaking, dear Tittie,
2 Some counsel unto me come len';
3 To anger them a' is a pity,
4 But what will I do wi' Tam Glen?

5 I'm thinking, wi' sic a braw fellow,
6 In poortith I might mak a fen':
7 What care I in riches to wallow,
8 If I mauna marry Tam Glen?

9 There's Lowrie, the laird o' Dumeller,
10 "Guid-day to you,"--brute! he comes ben:
11 He brags and he blaws o' his siller,
12 But when will he dance like Tam Glen?

13 My minnie does constantly deave me,
14 And bids me beware o' young men;
15 They flatter, she says, to deceive me;
16 But wha can think sae o' Tam Glen?

17 My daddie says, gin I'll forsake him,
18 He'll gie me guid hunder marks ten:
19 But, if it's ordain'd I maun take him,
20 O wha will I get but Tam Glen?

21 Yestreen at the valentines' dealing,
22 My heart to my mou gied a sten:
23 For thrice I drew ane without failing,
24 And thrice it was written, "Tam Glen"!

25 The last Halloween I was waukin
26 My droukit sark-sleeve, as ye ken:
27 His likeness cam up the house staukin,
28 And the very gray breeks o' Tam Glen!

29 Come counsel, dear Tittie, don't tarry;
30 I'll gie ye my bonie black hen,
31 Gif ye will advise me to marry
32 The lad I lo'e dearly, Tam Glen.

Tired Eyes

Well he shot four men in a cocaine deal
And he left them lyin in an open field
Full of old cars with bullet holes in the mirrors.
He tried to do his best but he could not.
Please take my advice, please take my advice
Please take my advice.
Open up the tired eyes,
Open up the tired eyes.
Well, it wasnt supposed to go down that way.
But they burned his brother, you know,
And they left him lying in the driveway.
They let him down with nothin.
He tried to do his best but he could not.
Please take my advice, please take my advice
Please take my advice.
Open up the tired eyes,
Open up the tired eyes.
Well tell me more, tell me more, tell me more
I mean was he a heavy doper or was he just a loser?
He was a friend of yours.
What do you mean, he had bullet holes in his mirrors?
He tried to do his best but he could not.
Please take my advice, please take my advice
Please take my advice.
Open up the tired eyes,
Open up the tired eyes.
Please take my advice, please take my advice
Please take my advice.
Open up the tired eyes,
Open up the tired eyes.

You Talk Too Much

Words and music by rick nielsen
You talk too much
You talk too much
You talk too much to me
Dear father, dont mother me
Dear mother, dont bother me
If I ever needed your advice, oh
I would have called you on the telephone
Ive been wrong maybe once or twice
And thats when I was listenin to you
You talk too much
You talk too much
You talk too much to me
Dear preacher, you wont reach me
Dear teacher, dont preach to me
If I ever needed your advice, oh
I would have called you on the telephone
Ive only been wrong maybe once or twice
And thats when I was listenin to you
Oh, shut up!
You talk too much
You talk too much
You talk too much, oh yeah
