So I was asked to do horror film after horror film, a series of about five, after that, and some of those were a little too gruesome. I wasn't too comfortable all the time in those. I didn't really care for them.
This film is what it is. It's a campy thriller horror movie where you go and have fun. With these types of films, you can't take it too seriously. They are what they are.

You know the sort of movie

If you had to read that script
Then you might just throw it away,
You’d get to the point where the feelings show
And you’d see that the hero would be me.
But heroes often fail and love isn’t easy
And the credits never come, feelings don’t just roll away.
I know you would not see that film
Because you wouldn’t want it to end like that-
You’d know the hero should fail
Because in real life
It’ll always end up that way.

House was the first film where I had no influence on the script. I had to buy the script with the game rights.
I liked it because it was such a dangerous script and showed just what human beings are capable of. Here was a movie in which Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, who always win in every movie they ever do, simply don't win. I felt that was outrageous for a commercial movie.
