Americans expect to eat and stay thin, to be constantly on the move and ever more neighborly...to revere God and be God.

Gertrude Stein is interviewed on American poetry

and there was the knocking on the door
that we were expecting
and it was the man
that we were expecting
with the questions we were expecting
to which answers were expected
by those who expect answers
as if life were like that
which for writers it is not

yes, tea was drunk
and after tea the tape recorder set up
so that what I said
I would continue to say
somewhere else
even when I changed my mind
here and nowhere else

and he said Ms Stein
what do you think of American poetry
and we said well it's American
and it's poetry
that's as it should be
and really that's all there is to say
and the man looked disappointed
so we asked him did he read poetry
and he said poetry no I dont read poetry
but my editor does
so I said it's really about Americans
living their lives
that's what American poetry is really about
because Americans move around
and so their words move around and
words in English have lost their intensity
but American words are always on the move
and they are more intense
yes, Americans living among Americans
and talking to their neighbours
if it's not about that
it's not really American poetry at all is it
if it's not about that
then why bother writing poetry

and the man was asking about a rose
being a rose being a rose and we said
for a hundred years the rose
has not been red in poetry
but now for the first time in a hundred years
the rose is red again

and the man looked at his watch
and said thank you Ms Stein
and was switching off his tape recorder

and a month later that
was what we said
in a magazine much read
by Americans who mostly
are not poets no very few but we said it
we know that this is so
because we read it there
and we think that really
that was all there was to say
because that was all we think
is really important
about American Poetry
that the words move like Americans move
and that is exciting for a writer
and that is the important thing about
American Poetry

Expect Your ………….You!

Expect your friend to be not better than you;
Expect your neighbor to not forgive you;
Expect your country not to goad you;
Expect your siblings to but discourage you;
Expect your children to not care for you;
Expect your spouse to rather hinder you;
Expect your love to always forget you;
Expect your home sometimes to ignore you;
Expect your native place to not honor you;
Expect the world to disregard you;
Expect your enemy to well hate you;
Expect your Maker to much love you;
Expect your God to never forsake you;
Expect your Lord and God to never abandon you.

What Is Happiness?

I rest my laurels and just move on,
for praise I do not need.
It's enough for me to be happy inside.
On this is what I feed.

And what happiness do I know?
Is it always here?
No, it's not but when I feel it
it's usually from what I hold dear.

Loving voices with words sincere,
compassionate ways that bring a tear,
musical sounds I do revere
and my family to which I do adhere.

And what more should I expect from life?
Nothing more than this.
All these things that bring me peace
are like a passionate kiss.

Expect No Mercy

If youre ready for the street
You wanna mix it in some fight
Let me tell you somethin
Now I dont wanna get you uptight
But if youre in a corner
And you cant find no way out
Dont look around for no help
No, no there wont be any around
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
So you think you got a case
And you think you know the score
No you dont wanna listen
You cant be told no more
But waitll you get out there
You better do it right
cause the streets are lined with things that kill
And theyre hidin in the night
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Feel that you can cut it
You think you got the time
Theyll only give you one chance
Better get it right first time
And the game youre playing
If you lose you gotta pay
If you make just one wrong move
Youll get blown away
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy
Expect no mercy, expect no mercy

Mending Fences

I don't expect you to understand me at all.
Look how long it has taking you to admit you have flaws?
Well...
Prior to that you did have a good credit rating too!
So,
I guess you have discovered yourself!
Too bad it took for sale signs, repossessions
And a foreclosure to do it!
Mending fences?
Sure.
You go right ahead.
I know a lot of that you probably have to do!
Me?
First of all...
I never needed a front or a back yard to do that!
Or neighbors that weren't neighborly!

Constantly

All day Im walking in a dream
I think about you constantly
Just like an ever flowing stream
Your memory haunts me constantly
Shadows fall and I try to drive you from my mind
So youre no longer near to me
But my heart sees you there with me
Every sunset you share with me
The rain that patterns throu the tree reminds
Me of you constantly
Your name is whispered by the breeze and love birds
Bring your song to me
Just as same as each star keeps burning
In the sky your flame will stay a flame in me
A flame that burns so bright
Not only throu the night
But constantly
Thro we may be_apart
Youre constantly deep in my heart

Libertine

When she walked in the room
You could faint from the strong perfume
And she said her name was libertine
In my ear, a voice said dont be a fool stay clear,
Better stay away from libertine
Stay away from libertine
Stay away from libertine
Stay away from libertine
So I stayed out of view
But my eyes couldnt come unglued
I was hypnotized by libertine
So in time I broke down and I lost my mind
Then I made a move on libertine
Stay away from libertine
Made a move on libertine
Stay away from libertine
I made my move on libertine
And I waited all night
til the timing was right
For another man was reaching for her hand
But he went to the phone
And when I got her alone
It just wasnt the same
Tell me whats in a name?
She made me drunk with her charms
Then she left on her husbands arm
And I got the shaft from libertine
I was weak and I know just from whence I speak,
Better stay away from libertine
Stay away from libertine

Expect More

Expect more,
From yourself...
Before your self respect,
becomes enclosed
Behind shut doors.

Expect more,
Not less.
When your best,
Has been ignored.

Expect more,
Or you'll be next...
Left when your intentions,
Begin to bore.

Expect more,
From those awake.
But the exchange makes them snore.

Expect more,
If a game played becomes too straight.
And you must be that whore!
To gain the attention,
Some express you adore.

Expect more...
From them and yourself to win.
In this life expect more.
Don't accept what is suspected.
Don't throw tantrums and fits...
Just to keep limits explored!

Expect more!

A Neighborly Guy

Baptist churches and brotherhood
In a tired, aging town
A moribund neighborhood
Where faith and fraternity are found

Cleveland Ohio’s a rust belt town
Ordinary citizens, still work out the days
Life comes and goes, has ups and has downs
But some neighbors are different in unusual ways

Take Anthony Sowell, a neighborly guy
A smile bright as the sunrise, none brighter or quicker
Liked to sit on his porch, by and by
Sippin’ from a bottle of King Cobra Malt Liquor

Had a few girlfriends over, seemed a regular guy
Neighbors came over for barbecue at times
Always said “good mornin’ and evening” and “hi’
Scrounged up ol’ metal for nickels and dimes

Neighbors at times notice odd scents
Of dead things or spoiled meat
Seemed to be coming from beyond a fence
Of a sausage maker just down the street

But Anthony sowell, a neighborly guy
Had compliant companions who sat quietly inside
Four on the couch slowly rotting
and three on the floor where they died

A few in the hallway
several upstairs in the bed
One in the bathroom,
on his workbench, a severed head

Anthony Sowell, a neighborly guy
was led in handcuffs through his front gate
Left his neighbors imaginations to fly
As to what was in that barbecue they ate

Anthony seemed such a neighborly guy
Some said they’d forever feel sickened
Some said they’d never eat barbecue again
Some said it tasted a little like chicken

Bets Then...Were Off

I bet when you came,
You did not expect this.
I can see it in your eyes.
You lick your lips...
As you tremble!

I bet when you came,
You did not expect this?
Exposing myself,
With direct comments.
Saying that I wish,
We would undress,
And have sex!

I bet when you came,
You did not expect this?
But you did expect something.
I saw that hot and wanting to be bothered look,
Immediately.

'I bet when I came,
You did not expect to see me like this,
At all? ' She said.

And I could say nothing,
Since all bets then...were off!

People Expect Too Much From Me

aug,11,2010

people expect me to be perfect,
because i'm smart,
people expect me to get good grades,
because of all the hard work i put in,
people expect me to have my own business,
because i can be talented and creative,
people expect me to be a push over,
rather than a girl who speaks her mind,
people expect me to be something i'm not,
but all i can be is only myself,
people expect me to deal with life,
i can only deal with it the best i can,
people expect me to handle more than i can,
but who is it really for or what do i have to prove?
people expect me to be who they want,
but did they ever stop to think of what i wanted?

Move

I was sitting at my desk, I was a little depressed,
My nerves laid back, I was busy stressed,
Messed up in the club with the girlies bt
U I think about, think about, think about yoooo
And I couldnt stay alone I couldnt stay at home
So I thought about it, talked about it on my microphone,
Cause the plight that I have is to make the people groove
The plight that I have is to make the people move
What you wanna do, what do to groove what you want,
What you want, what you want - move
Chorus:
Move ya, move move ya,
Move I said, move I said, move and go ahead
Cause if we drop that beat, you gotta feel that treat-
Ment by the bass, by the drums in your fac
E wanna see your left hand wanna see your right hand
Still u gotta know we are a live bad band
Move to the rytm, move, move to the rhyme,
You can see it, you can feel it, you can hear it in the streets
Step one to the front step two to the back
Move I said, move I said, move and go ahead, fred!
Chorus
Gonna make you move...

Respect To It

Respect to it has more than a one sided way
Do not expect the respect of others if respect to them you don't pay
You treat other people as you'd like them to treat you
And in turn they will give you the respect you are due
You may be the wealthiest and most powerful person in your town
And you feel that you have the right for to put others down
And others respect you or so to you it does appear
But between feigned and true respect the difference is quite clear
Despotic leaders believe the masses them do revere
But this sort of feigned adulation is adulation through fear
To protest in such circumstance they'd be risking their own lives
And the lives of their children as well as their wives
If you do not respect then respect do not expect to receive
Just a known fact of life that one ought to believe.

Can't Go On

How can it be easy to forget you when I think about you all the time
I never know how I miss you when I never had you, well nevermind
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on
It'd be cool if we never met, if we never locked eyes
Then I'd feel so happy, not knowing you're so fine
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on
I get so nuts when I'm around you there's nothing I can say
I wish you'd get outta my head, I think about you every day
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on without...
ROCK!
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on, can't move on, without... you
