The rope that hangs a monkey, hangs a baboon as well.

The Ape, the Monkey, and Baboon
The ape, the monkey and baboon did meet,
And breaking of their fast in Friday street,
Two of them swore together solemnly
In their three natures was a sympathy.
Nay, quoth baboon,
I do deny that strain:
I have more knavery in me
than you twain.
Why, quoth the ape, I have a horse at will
In Paris Garden for to ride on still,
And there show tricks. Tush, quoth the monkey,
For better tricks in great men's houses lie.
Tush, quoth baboon,
when men do know I come,
For sport from city, country
they will run.

Road Song of the Bandar-Log
Here we go in a flung festoon,
Half-way up to the jealous moon!
Don't you envy our pranceful bands?
Don't you wish you had extra hands?
Would n't you like if your tails were -- so --
Curved in the shape of a Cupid's bow?
Now you're angry, but -- never mind,
Brother, thy tail hangs down behind!
Here we sit in a branchy row,
Thinking of beautiful things we know;
Dreaming of deeds that we mean to do,
All complete, in a minute or two --
Something noble and grand and good,
Won by merely wishing we could.
Now we're going to -- never mind,
Brother, thy tail hangs down behind!
All the talk we ever have heard
Uttered by bat or beast or bird --
Hide or fin or scale or feather --
Jabber it quickly and all together!
Excellent! Wonderful! Once again!
Now we are talking just like men.
Let 's pretend we are... never mind,
Brother, thy tail hangs down behind!
This is the way of the Monkey-kind.

He who lies, hangs from a gallows - he who does not, hangs twice.
The Fatal Disease
He got a blow as his wife developed cancer,
And went knee-less, tearless and sleepless.
His life hangs. Her desire to help her son
Bring up his two daughters and son, hangs.

She Hangs Out
How old dyou say your sister was? (sister was, sister was)
How old dyou say your sister was? (sister was, sister was)
You know youd better keep an eye on her (eye on her, eye on her)
Do the ronde ronde ronde do the rond rond
She hangs out
She hangs out
I heard you taught your sister the bugaloo (bugaloo, bugaloo)
I heard you taught your sister the shigaling too
(shigaling
Too, shigaling too)
Well, she can teach you a thing or two (a thing or two, thing or two)
Do the ronde ronde ronde do the rond rond
She hangs out
She hangs out
Well, she hangs out, hangs out
Every night, every night
You know you best get down here on the double
Before she gets her pretty little self in trouble
Shes...so fine...so fine
I say, how old dyou say your sister was? (sister was, sister was)
How old dyou say your sister was? (sister was, sister was)
You know youd better keep an eye on her (eye on her, eye on her)
Do the ronde ronde ronde do the rond rond
She hangs out
She hangs out
Shes very, very, very, very, very fine
And shes gonna be mine, so fine
She hangs out
She hangs out

Feed The Monkey
She likes to feed the monkey
She likes to feed the monkey
She likes to feed the monkey
She likes the monkey
Well gather 'round and let me tell you all a story
About a boy and his monkey
He's got that kind of monkey that the girls wanna know
He likes to take his monkey every place that he goes
(Can we pet your monkey?)
Hey, ho, you see the monkey?
Did you know you made my monkey hungry?
I didn't really know how it get so hungry
I'd like to know
Would you feed the monkey?
Well you can pet my monkey
'Cause my monkey don't bite
But when you pet my monkey
He get funky all night
My monkey ain't no ordinary orangutang
'Cause my monkey likes to do the wild thing
My monkey don't scratch
My monkey don't bite
My monkey don't swing no tree
My monkey don't hit
My monkey don't drool
My monkey be swing with me
My monkey don't freak
My monkey don't trip
My monkey don't wear no cape
But you can tell what my monkey wanna eat
'Cause it turn into a big ol' ape
Yeah...
Hey..
The monkey's getting hungry
Hey, hey, why don't you feed your monkey?
(REPEAT x 3)
What she want?
She wants the monkey
(REPEAT x 3)
You know she want
You know she want
You know she wants the monkey
(REPEAT x 3)
Hey, hey, she likes to feed the monkey
Ooh, she's sayin' it's time to feed the monkey
Everyday she wants to feed the monkey
All through the day she likes to feed the monkey
She likes to feed the monkey
(REPEAT x 7)
Feed the monkey
(REPEAT x 19)
She likes to feed the monkey

Another for Hanque
A poem is joined to everything,
hangs by a thought;
a poet is joined to everything,
hangs by a word;
wisdom’s joined to everything;
hang lightly, golden heart.

On The Other Hand He Calls It The Thousand Monkeys
on the thousandth
monkey
you shout
o my god
i made it!
the monkey
hangs and shifts
place from
vine to vine
jumps on the river
and swims
finds a fish
and eats it
rises from the river
and dances on
a rock
under the morning
sun
quite exciting
the other monkeys
did the same
except for one
he sits by the window
watches the running of
time
dust after dust
dusk after dusk
waiting for
the big break of
his own life.

Frosty on His Flag (Clementine Sweet)
frosty is lonely
he hangs from a winter blue flag by a pink-roofed house
being blown by a salt-sea breeze
he has no snow people to talk to
he ripples his cloth edges among the sky-high palm trees and
above the candy-green grass
frosty is an outcast
to contrast the deep blue of his flag lies the pale desert sky,
shot through with bright Cali sunshine
frosty is a picture of out-of-placement:
he hangs and he hangs
he sighs and he sighs
all the while homesick
all the while thinking
that sometimes, sometimes
irony is clementine sweet

Flagging
The flag hangs limply now,
its better days blowing behind it,
it's colours fading.
I remember when its vibrancy
shone like the sunshine
as it billowed softly.
The flag hangs limply now,
behind me, just like my dreams
and I cannot touch tomorrow.

A Baby Asleep after Pain
As a drenched, drowned bee
Hangs numb and heavy from a bending flower,
So clings to me
My baby, her brown hair brushed with wet tears
And laid against her cheek;
Her soft white legs hanging heavily over my arm
Swinging heavily to my movements as I walk.
My sleeping baby hangs upon my life,
Like a burden she hangs on me.
She has always seemed so light,
But now she is wet with tears and numb with pain
Even her floating hair sinks heavily,
Reaching downwards;
As the wings of a drenched, drowned bee
Are a heaviness, and a weariness.

Bangs
Bangs
Above your eyes your hair hangs
Blow my mind your royal flyness I dig your bangs
Bangs
To drape across your forehead
To swing concordant angles as you incline your head
Once with a girl I fell in love sometime ago now she had...
Bangs
Are that on which the world hangs
Im only holding your hand so I can look at your bangs
Bangs
Are like a pocket t-shirt
As casual as that while fully intentional
And in case you think Im here cause I like making chit chat
Just remember what I said the moneys under your hat
Bangs
Are that on which the world hangs
Im only holding your hand so I can look at your bangs
Bangs
Above your eyes your hair hangs
Blow my mind your royal flyness I dig your bangs
Bangs
To drape across your forehead
To swing concordant angles as you incline your head
And although I like you anyway, check out your haircut
A proscenium to stage a face that needs no makeup
Bangs
Are that on which the world hangs
Im only holding your hand so I can look at your bangs
Im only holding your hand so I can look at your bangs

Some Day One Day
You never heard my song before the music was too loud
But now I think you hear me well for now we both know how
No star can light our way in this cloud of dark and fear
But some day, one day...
Funny how the pages turn and hold us in between
A misty castle waits for you and you shall be a queen
Today the cloud it hangs over us and all is grey
But some day, one day...
When I was you and you were me and we were very young
Together took us nearly there the rest may not be sung
So still the cloud it hangs over us and were alone
But some day, one day...
Well come home

Shock The Monkey
Shock the monkey to life
Shock the monkey to life
Cover me when I run
Cover me through the fire
Something knocked me out the trees
Now Im on my knees
Cover me, darling please
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Dont you know when youre going to shock the monkey
Fox the fox
Rat the rat
You can ape the ape
I know about that
There is one thing you must be sure of
I cant take any more
Darling, dont you monkey with the monkey
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Dont you know youre going to shock the monkey
Wheels keep turning
Somethings burning
Dont like it but I guess Im learning
Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Cover me, when I sleep
Cover me, when I breathe
You throw your pearls before the swine
Make the monkey blind
Cover me, darling please
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Dont you know youre going to shock the monkey
Too much at stake
Ground beneath me shake
And the news is breaking
Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey to life

Maybe (feat. Holly Dunn)
MAYBE
Maybe, is a word that hangs between us
It's the thing to say when all else has failed
Maybe we failed, maybe
Maybe, but I can't bare say it's over
Til the love we found is hopelessly lost
Maybe I could, maybe not.
Our lives might have come unwound
But have we've come so far
That we can't turn the hurt around
Our hearts still remain the same
Oh, first to wonder why
Oh, ask to make a change.
But maybe
Maybe, if we hold on to tomorrow
Just hold on, just hold on
Then we just might find a feeling again
Not let it end.
Maybe, it's a word that hangs between us
Maybe, time would help the wondering to stop
Maybe we will know, maybe not
Maybe, maybe.

Where Does That Boy Hang Out
Where where where is he over there
Where where where is he over there
Hes on the corner waiting waiting
Waiting for the right love to walk on by
Hes on the look out he should cause
Hes the one that they take their lovin from
When he looks down deep into their eyes
Their knees start shakin but much to their surprise
Hes gone hes gond hes done it again
Where does the boy hang out
Their on the street dreamin alot
But dreams are trouble if theyre caught
Where does the boy hang out
They try to run away prayin looking for the place
Where he wont be hes on the make
And they tempt him cause hes the one
Theyre gonna take their lovin from
When he looks down deep into their eyes
Their hearts start beating but much to their surprise
Hes gone hes done it again
Where does the boy hang out
Why does he do it
Why must he do it
Dont he know that hes a man jst the same
Oh why must he show it
Why must he know it
That his words will always show em the way
The boy hangs out
The boy hangs out
I said the boy cant help it
The boy hangs out
The boy hangs out
I said the boy cant help it
Im gonna find him and tell him
That he dont have to prove anything to anyone
Im gonna show him that hes alright
And talkins just as good as lvin deep in the night
When he tells his story
So hard to resist hes slow talking
No need to be kissed
Hes smooth hes done it again
Where does the boy hang out
Theyre on the corner dreamin about
But dreams are trouble if theyre caught
Where does the boy hang out
Where does the boy hang out
Ad lib

Just Poor Folks!
just poor folks,
living in an old house,
sleeping in a corner
'neath old handmade quilts.
scrubbing scarred floors
with pinesol pride mops....
while the smell of cornbread and
beans hangs in the air.....
stuffing cracks in the windows
against the cold...
kerosene heater,
2 five gallon cans....
a bare light bulb
hangs over the table....
they sit in silence....
reading and thinking...
the old car in the drive,
might crank, and might not....
but that's tomorrow....
and tonite,
they're almost warm!

Too Much Monkey Business
Running to and fro,
Hard working at the mill,
Never failed at the mill,
There come a rotten bill.
Aw too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
For me to be involved again.
Salesman talking to me,
Trying to run me up a creek,
Says you can buy it, go on try it,
You can pay me next week.
Aw too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
For me to be involved again.
Blonde hair, good-looking,
Trying to get me hooked and married
Get a home, settle down by the book.
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
For me to be involved again.
Been to yokohama, baby,
Fighting in the war,
Army bunk, army chow,
Army clothes, army car.
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
For me to be involved again.
Same thing every day,
Getting up, going to school.
No need for me complaining,
My objection's overruled.
Aw too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
For me to be involved again.
Working in the filling station,
Too many tasks,
Wipe the windows, check the oil,
Check the tires, dollar gas?
Aw too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
Don't want you by the race,
Get away and leave me.
[original has one more verse:
Pay-phone, something's wrong,
Dime gone, will mail.
Oughta sue the operator
For telling me a tale.
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business,
Too much monkey business
For me to be involved with you

Know Thyself (at The Gate)
at the gate
there hangs this notice
know thyself, and i
reflect upon it, how other
people can be so mean
about his neighbor simply because
and this is too important
he is confused and does not know what
to do
about himself, and his being mean,
and so the notice at the gate still hangs in there
and it will be for a long, long time,
until man really knows himself,
which could at time be too confusing too,
for how can one so embellished in himself
not know himself, for how can one be so attached
to his bone and flesh and his veins
be not knowing himself, and so i reflected some more,
where is thyself? is it not a possibility too
that there is no self and so one is too unhappy
because he searches for himself througout his whole
lifetime only to find out that there is no such
self as I?
come to think of it, who am I? and who are you?
