The grill said to the frying pan: I want big fishes not minnows.

Sunset Grill
Lets go down to the sunset grill
We can watch the working girls go by
Watch the basket people walk around and
Mumble
And stare out at the auburn sky
Theres an old man there from the old world
To him, its all the same
Calls all his customers by name
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
You see a lot more meanness in the city
Its the kind that tears you up inside
Hard to come away with anything that feels
Like dignity
Hard to get home with any pride
These days a man makes you somethin
And you never see his face
But there is no hiding place
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Respectable little murders pay
They get more respectable every day
Dont worry girl, Im gonna stick by you
And someday soon were gonna get in that
Car and get outta here
Lets go down to the sunset grill
Watch the working girls go by
Watch the basket people walk around and
Mumble
And gaze out at the auburn sky
Maybe well leave come springtime
Meanwhile, have another beer
What would we do without these jerks
Anyway?
Besides, all our friends are here
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill

The Brunt Of The Heat
A frying cake blamed a frying pan
And the frying pan, the frying cake
For the brunt of heat they bore from the stove
Like a woman and his son’s wife do.

Lonely Grill
Box speaker talkin out a tune
Two for one on a blue lagoon
Another lost and found
Bartender takes another pass
Puts the salt on the rim of another glass
And he sits it down
I know every color of every neon sign
Flashing out a heartache in the back of my mind
Down at the lonely grill
Got nothing but time to kill at the end of everyday
I sit in a corner booth and do nothing but think of you
And the love we threw away
And I guess I always will
Down at the lonely grill
Sad-eyed waitress called betty lynn
Got her order pad and her ball-point pen
Said whatll it be
I said a tall glass of cold regret
A full order of loneliness
Like every night this week
Ill shoulder my pride and I drank it down
Another smoke filled evening with no fire to be found
Down at the lonely grill
Got nothing but time to kill at the end of everyday
I sit in a corner booth and do nothing but think of you
And the love we threw away
And I guess I always will
Down at the lonely grill
Lonely grill
I sit in a corner booth
And do nothing but think of you
And the love we threw away
And I guess I always will
Down at the lonely grill
Lonely grill
Down at the lonely grill
Down at the lonely grill
Down at the lonely grill
At the lonely grill.

Juniors Grill
Mashed potatos, lima beans,
Redeye gravy, collard greens,
Cutest waitress youve ever seen,
Down at juniors grill.
Sweet ginger brings your plate,
Always hot and never late;
Top it off with a chocolate cake,
Down at juniors grill.
Its heaven with a corner booth,
Thats the truth;
Chrome and naugahyde;
Its cool inside.
The jukebox never stops,
Theres coffee in the pot,
So come and get your fill
At juniors grill.
Ginger takes her break at 10,
Lays aside her pad and pen,
Punches up stand by your man
Down at juniors grill.
I seen her dancing, she seen me look;
Oh lord, what a chance I took,
Cause gingers soft on that big ole cook
Down at juniors grill.
Its heaven with a corner booth, thats the truth;
Chrome and naugahyde; its cool inside.
The jukebox never stops, theres coffee in the pot,
So come and get your fill at juniors grill.
So come and get your fill at juniors grill.

She Is There
i see some bamboo poles
lining up
on the shallow sea
she is there
watching some fishes without fins
without scales
she is there on some exclamations
this cannot be!
this cannot be!
the fish i know have fins!
the fish i know have scales all over their elongated bodies!
the fish i know can swim!
why are these fishes dying?
why are these fishes swimless in the sea where they belong?
yes my dear, the fishes and the sea, you do not belong there
the fishes are not yours and you do not belong to them
they have their own salty, slimy, scaly world,
they have gills and fins and round eyes
that do not blink
so you cannot tell them what to do, what to become.
in fact, you are neither fish nor fowl

When My Shadow Is Small
my favorite bridge is close
peeling paints, rusting steel
water beneath beautiful still
fishes passing; crabs digging
seaweeds dance with currents will
rocks love kisses from waves
heron stood in middle of lake
spearing unknowing minnows
tiny ripples reach sea grass
unblinking fat frog still hide
me alone standing atop a rock
with smile i watch all of that

Schroeder the Fisherman
I sat on the bank above Bernadotte
And dropped crumbs in the water,
Just to see the minnows bump each other,
Until the strongest got the prize.
Or I went to my little pasture,
Where the peaceful swine were asleep in the wallow,
Or nosing each other lovingly,
And emptied a basket of yellow corn,
And watched them push and squeal and bite,
And trample each other to get the corn.
And I saw how Christian Dallman's farm,
Of more than three thousand acres,
Swallowed the patch of Felix Schmidt,
As a bass will swallow a minnow
And I say if there's anything in man --
Spirit, or conscience, or breath of God
That makes him different from fishes or hogs,
I'd like to see it work!

In Gordon bay
There’s a light breeze blowing
and the waves
have white horses,
where they splash on the beach.
I can smell the freshness
of the sea
and hear it breaking
and breathing,
on the other side
of the street.
The chef is frying
some sea-pike on an open grill
and is chilling
a bottle of JC Le Roux champagne.
The sun is falling hot
next to the cold blue pool
and your body shines,
from the sun tan lotion
and you tan reading a book.
I splash into the pool
and you look up annoyed
for a moment,
before you slip into the water.
I feel free with you with me
and even the beach
and the sea
can wait for a better day
and everything is really great.

Wanted freedom
Different colour
Fishes...
Nicely swimming on
Glass tub...
But fishes was
Crying...
With a water...
Water did not see
Fishes crying...
Fishes crying for freedom...
Yes...
With out of the water tub...
Death is no problem
we want freedom...
we want freedom...
So...
Fishes was cry to play
Play to cry...
On the beauty water tub
At home....
Ok...
Freedom is one
of the death...?
Or live...!

Out Of The Frying Pan
out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
It's only two o'clock and the temperture's beginning to soar
And all around the city you see the walking wounded and the living dead
It's never been this hot and i've never been so bored
And breathing is just no fun anymore
And then i saw you like a summer dream
And you're the answer to every prayer that i ever said
I saw you like a summer dream
And you're the answer to every prayer that i ever said
You can feel the pulse of the pavement racing like a runaway horse
The subways are steaming and the skin of the street is gleaming with sweat
I've seen you sitting on the steps outside
And you were looking so restless and reckless and lost
I think it's time for you to come inside
I'll be waiting here with something that you'll never forget
I think it's time for you to come inside
I'll be waiting here with something that you'll never forget
Come on! come on!
And there'll be no turning back
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back
Come on! come on!
It's time to burn up the fuse
You've got nothing to do and even less to lose
You've got nothing to do and even less to lose
So wander down the ancient hallway
Taking the stairs only one at a time
Follow the sound of my heartbeat now
I'm in the room at the top, you're at the end of the line
Open the door and lay down on the bed
The sun is just a ball of desire
And i wanna take you out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
Out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
Out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
And i wanna take you out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
Out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
Out of the frying pan (and into the fire)
And into the fire! fire! fire!
And into the fire! fire! fire!
And into the fire! fire! fire!

What shall we eat, ?
What shall we eat for breakfast, said the childrens mother,
What about pancakes and honey, but mum said its a bother;
The father came down, and he said, Id like a nice mixed grill,
But mum said cereal it is, cause I still can't cook I feel I'll.
What shall I have to eat, at lunch time today,
I might try a grill, or hamburger, but there's no way,
One is my money, the other is my weight,
If I eat too much, I'll get depressed, then I'll be in a state,
What do you want to eat, we re asked said the lady in the cafe,
Roast chicken and salad, then I'll try fruit souffle'.
My friend wanted a pizza, ravioli, and then gelati for sweet,
Yes! It's okay to eat what you like, but don't over eat.

Dancing At The Rainbow Grill
Downtown in front of a renowned, teenage hangout,
Every weekend evening we formed a jovial group,
Boys and girls together would converse and frolic
While a jukebox played popular music on a stoop,
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.
There is where Henry Shane and littleJoey Quinn,
With Nicky Walker, a comedian, who stole the show,
The robust Charlie Wagner, with a petite, pretty girl
First picked up the footwork for the rock and roll
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.
Round and round the dance floor the couples twirled,
As the jukebox played ' The Twist' or 'Blueberry Hill',
Boys and girls together, versatile and lightfooted,
The body motion and musical tempo created a thrill
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.
Times have changed since those memorable evenings,
The group has gone afar now, but they must feel like me,
They would cherish a moment once more to freely dance
With their favorite dancer just like it use to be
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.

Fishing for carp
Fishing for carp, probably kurper or yellow-fish
with the woman leaving to prepare sausage
frying it near to the car on a Cadac frying pan,
(you know how it is)
with a six-pack cooling in the river
and then a sound, a movement making you shiver
when on your right a banded spitting cobra appears
and girly is ready with the food, ready to deliver
a tray full of goodies that she made with loving care
and you wish for her to be anywhere
but right there, but luckily she notices the snake
freezes behind you somewhere
and the ringhals till now with eyes brown and unaware
only half awake senses something testing the air
with forked tongue and rears up ready to strike or spit
and this is it, you have had your share of luck, but still you dare
and using the rod in your hands you slam with all your might,
you slam to your right
striking the spitting hissing thing and it is flying
and it misses sweetie by a mile and luckily it is the last sight
that you have of it, while she screams in fright
and curses the day, morning sun and night
as a rattled girl sometimes does
and you assure her that every thing is well, is all right
and then unexpectedly you have a bite,
the policeman jumps and you are in for a fight
while the mother of all fishes
struggles to be free and you smite
the other rod, hooking it well and good
and the rites of fishing is well understood
and girly is handy with the catching net,
smiles in a better mood.

Dolphin II
She told me tales of Arion
and the sly Ulysses
and filled my ringing ears
with sounding arias
of love among the fishes.
Oh, the waves are the laughter of water!
She dined upon the minnows
the whelk and such-like crill
but took from them contagion
that made her deadly ill
and gone, she's gone away.
Folly, say, and folly
for luxury to make
imperishable mischief
of every sea and lake.
So sadly short of sight.
Oh, the waves are the laughter of water!
Folly, cry, and folly
that loutish lucre makes
illimitable mischief
of every loch and brake.
So madly short of sight
Where is the lovely dolphin
that used to swim with me
along the gleaming torrents of
the vast, uncrowded sea?
the vast, uncrowded sea.
