Someone who is pointing his finger to another person is not always aware that the four remaining fingers are pointing in his direction.

God's Fingers
the orange
when ripe
turns yellow
the yellow colour
is god's finger
pointing to its sweetness
the morn
comes with brightness
the brightness
is god's finger
pointing to the warmth
of the sun
so long i have equated
god with what he is not
that he speaks
with symbols
to find that
god's fingers
index fingers
are here, there and
everywhere
at the sea too
i hear him serenading
a song

Joe Rey
Joe rey came from spain
Across the ocean in the frozen rain
And he loves
Point point pointing the finger
Joe rey is stoned all day
With two hairdressers in a chevrolet
For a while
I think joe reys gonna linger
Joe rey is not so pretty
I cant understand why hes so in demand
He stays out late in the city, sometimes, sometimes
Joey rey smokes at three
Barks like a pigeon
And watches tv
Hes cool, cool, cool, cooler than I am
He knows what I dont know
Got seventeen different words for snow that he signs
Signs to a deaf girl named diane
Joe rey is not so pretty
I cant understand why hes so in demand
He stays out late in the city, sometimes, sometimes
Joe rey is not so pretty
I cant understand why hes so in demand
He stays out late in the city, sometimes, sometimes, sometimes, sometimes
Joe rey came from spain
Across the ocean in the frozen rain
And he loves
Point point pointing the finger
Joe rey loves
Point point pointing the finger
Joe rey loves
Point point pointing the finger
Joe rey loves
Point point pointing the finger

A man who has one finger pointing at another has three pointing towards himself.
When you point your finger at someone, three fingers are pointing back at you.
When a man points a finger at someone else, he should remember that four of his fingers are pointing at himself.

I Am A Finger To You
in bliss
last night
i was not
just a finger
to you
this morning
when i wake
up and taken back
my senses
i am a finger
still
pointing
the way
to justice

When a finger is pointing at the moon, the fool looks at the finger.
If somebody's pointing a trembling finger at your pants and saying you shouldn't be doing that, follow that finger back, go up the arm and look at the head that's behind it, because there's almost always something fairly woolly in there.

Blame
who to blame?
we spend all of our time
pointing fingers, looking
for who to blame for
wars, poverty, injustices,
disease, overpopulation,
racism, enslavements,
hunger, homelessness.
who to blame?
men, women, white people,
Muslims, conservative Christians,
right-wingers, gay people, straight people,
the elite, illegal immigrants.
wake the hell up!
all of us bear equal
responsibility in this blame.
we are all a part of the cause.
we are all a part of the cure.
if we spent half as much time
working to fix our problems
as we do pointing fingers.
we'd fix them!
each of us has the right
to our own individuality
but each of us have the
responsibility of our collective
unity

In practical terms the South Pointing Chariot was a simple direction finder. It could have been made to point in any direction - north, south, east or west.

Marie Bateson
You observe the carven hand
With the index finger pointing heavenward.
That is the direction, no doubt.
But how shall one follow it?
It is well to abstain from murder and lust,
To forgive, do good to others, worship God
Without graven images.
But these are external means after all
By which you chiefly do good to yourself.
The inner kernel is freedom,
It is light, purity --
I can no more,
Find the goal or lose it, according to your vision.

You Stop To Point At The Moon In The Sky
You stop to point at the moon in the sky,
but the finger's blind unless the moon is shining.
One moon, one careless finger pointing --
are these two things or one?
The question is a pointer guiding
a novice from ignorance thick as fog.
Look deeper. The mystery calls and calls:
No moon, no finger -- nothing there at all.

And it's not a finger-pointing issue to me; I take as much responsibility as I can. It was more just me not really knowing what I wanted to do and how to get it done.

Regardless If The Act Of It Is Avoidable
They don't want,
THAT direction!
They want THEIR direction.
Even though it has been shown,
Their direction
Has long been eroding.
And the installation of a brick wall,
Erected with warnings of consequences
Is beginning to chip,
From their constant banging against it.
A collective stubornness insisted
Goes unheeded.
And no matter what anyone says,
About a the wall protecting them
From a fall over a cliff
They have chosen to rise against,
The presence of qualified leadership
To bulldoze their way,
Right through it!
And the moral of this?
If there is any morality left,
Significant in this decaying existence.
Whatever is said to those who don't listen,
Through the cracks many will fall.
Screaming for help,
From those they claimed appalled.
And always there are those,
Pointing their fingers at others
To accuse and blame,
For dilemmas they keep
To protect their ignorance even as they weep.
With a desire to prove
Their heads are thicker,
Than any installed wall.
Or the steep deepness of their fall.
Regardless if the act of it,
Is avoidable.
