Sonnet 37: My Mouth Doth Water

My mouth doth water, and my breast doth swell,
My tongue doth itch, my thoughts in labor be:
Listen then, lordings, with good ear to me,
For of my life I must a riddle tell.

Toward Aurora's court a nymph doth dwell,
Rich in all beauties which man's eye can see:
Beauties so far from reach of words, that we
Abase her praise, saying she doth excel:

Rich in the treasure of deserv'd renown,
Rich in the riches of a royal heart,
Rich in those gifts which give th'eternal crown;

Who though most rich in these and every part,
Which make the patents of true worldly bliss,
Hath no misfortune, but that Rich she is.

Yes A Pauper Knows A Pauper

Yes a pauper knows a pauper.
And what they do.
Living on the city streets.
In snow or heat.

And when the rain pours down,
These people don't scatter to scoot.
With attitude.

Yes a pauper knows a pauper.
And what they do.
Living on the city streets.
In snow or heat.

Yet a hope most know,
For them...
Is leaning on,
Mean scenes.
In desperation.
Mean scenes...
To demean.

Yet a hope most know,
For them...
Is leaning on,
Mean scenes.
In desperation.
Mean scenes...
To demean.

And the streets they live on for them,
Will never be...
Good friends,
In the end!

Yes a pauper knows a pauper.
And what they do.
Living on the city streets.
In snow or heat.

And the streets they live on for them,
Will never be...
Good friends,
In the end!

Kissing A Misfortune

Kissing a misfortune
Is a life`s last endeavour
As you never make a return.

Kissing a misfortune
Is a man`s lost game
As you don`t have a partner in it.

A slipped word,
A wrong unknowingly done and
A right forgotten to be done...

Kissing a misfortune
Is a friend`s tragedy and
Indeed a life`s ghost.

Up For Grabs

My feelings in the past,
Had been up for grabs.
With a need to please,
And be accepted.

Especially in relationships that did not last,
For reasons foolishness can not explain.
Or sustain pretentions.

And those I thought were close,
Chose to test me most.
With a thinking towards me,
As someone dependent and easily teased.
And continually this became the main attraction.

My feelings in the past,
Had been up for grabs.
And in those days long gone,
I believed myself special...
With a giving I gave to get back little re-action.

However when a dawning came,
To awaken with the brightest of lights...
It occurred to me what I desired and wanted,
In a relationship...
Did not feed seriously another's appetite.
And I was not into fantasies and quick pleasures.

Up for grabs and momentary satisfactions,
I am not.

The Vine

The wine of Love is music,
And the feast of Love is song:
And when Love sits down to the banquet,
Love sits long:

Sits long and arises drunken,
But not with the feast and the wine;
He reeleth with his own heart,
That great, rich Vine.

The Old Man

He sits quietly murmuring
Talking only to himself
His eyes sunken and dark
A look of tiredness across his face
His head is slightly bowed
Resting upon his hand
He sits alone in almost darkness
Except for a small table lamp
In the far corner of the room
There is little in the way of light
Old books gather dust
In piles around upon the floor
Those stories he once read
The worlds to which he escaped
Now stacked without order
Like memories becoming forgot
A glass of vintage wine
Held in his thin, bone like fingers
Softens his pallet, soothes his throat
While he sits alone each night
In quiet conversation with himself
Another old man growing grey
Wishing on yesterdays

Life Has Its Little Ups And Downs

I don't know how to tell her,
That I didn't get that raise in pay today,
And I know how much she wanted the dress in Baker's window,
And it breaks my heart to see her have to wait,
And cancel all the plans she made to celebrate.

But I can count on her to take it with a smile and not a frown,
She knows that life has its little ups and downs,
Like ponies on a merry-go-round,
And no one grabs the brass ring every time,
But she don't mind,
She wears a gold ring on her finger,
And it's mine.

The new house plans we've had so long,
I guess will gather dust another year,
And the daffodils are blooming that she planted way last fall,
Upon the hill, and over by the gate,
And Lord knows I hate to say again we'll have to wait.

But you can bet that she'll just take it with a smile and not a frown,
She knows that life has its little ups and downs,
Like ponies on a merry-go-round,
And no one grabs the brass ring every time,
But she don't mind,
She wears a gold ring on her finger,
And I'm so glad that it's mine,
She wears a gold ring on her finger,
And I'm so glad that it's mine.

The Poor, Poor Country

Oh 'twas a poor country, in Autumn it was bare,
The only green was the cutting grass and the sheep found little there.
Oh, the thin wheat and the brown oats were never two foot high,
But down in the poor country no pauper was I.

My wealth it was the glow that lives forever in the young,
'Twas on the brown water, in the green leaves it hung.
The blue cranes fed their young all day - how far in a tall tree!
And the poor, poor country made no pauper of me.

I waded out to the swan's nest - at night I heard them sing,
I stood amazed at the Pelican, and crowned him for a king;
I saw the black duck in the reeds, and the spoonbill on the sky,
And in that poor country no pauper was I.

The mountain-ducks down in the dark made many a hollow sound,
I saw in sleep the Bunyip creep from the waters underground.
I found the plovers' island home, and they fought right valiantly,
Poor was the country, but it made no pauper of me.

My riches all went into dreams that never yet came home,
They touched upon the wild cherries and the slabs of honeycomb,
They were not of the desolate brood that men can sell or buy,
Down in that poor country no pauper was I.

* * * * *

The New Year came with heat and thirst and the little lakes were low,
The blue cranes were my nearest friends and I mourned to see them go;
I watched their wings so long until I only saw the sky,
Down in that poor country no pauper was I.

Words Get Stuck In My Throat

If I had a tiny microphone
Hidden in my heart
It would amplify my love for you
But the words get stuck in my throat
The words get stuck in my throat
If I had a little viewmaster
Stuck inside my brain
It would snap the pictures all of you.
But the words get stuck in my throat
The words get stuck in my throat
If I had a telegraph
Tapping in my brain
It would tap the morse code I love you.
But the words get stuck in my throat
The words get stuck in my throat
Hey, hey, hey
Whatd I say?
Everyday!
The words get stuck in my throat (repeating)

Sonnet: And If God Wants…

And if God wants, He can make one rich fast,
Or make a rich man pauper, over-night;
And if God wants, He can forgive sins past,
And give him Godliness, fervor, limelight.

And if God wants, He can destroy a town,
And every evil-minded man/ woman;
And if God wants, rebuild the town razed down,
And make an oppressed group, a blessed clan.

And if God wants, He can give one the mind,
To bear sorrow, however hard it strikes;
And if God wants, a peace of mind, he’ll find,
Despite his many life’s problems /dislikes.

And if God wants, a man can get great fame,
With His blessings and glorify his name.

That is God

Brighter than future and helps us all,
That is God, That is God.

Nobody can see, touch or smell,
but is above all lords
That is God, That is God.

Who need no explanation or evidence,
but is jury of all
That is God, That is God.

Whether one is rich, black, a pauper or white,
one who sees us all with one eye
That is God, That is God.

Who gives blessing to us and strength in a brawl,
That is God, That is God.

You may call yourself Christian, Hindu or Muslim,
But who cares and look after us all
That is God, That is God.

Introduction To Solution

Sung by the tramp:
While the rich get their kicks with their affluent antics
Mr. black sits and ponders their fate.
He just sits in the gloom of his dimly-lit room
Waiting for them to swallow the bait.
While the rich run their rackets he sits in his attic
And casually clocks their defeat.
While the politicians cover up mistakes that theyve made
And all the promises, the lies and deceits.
A military coup has been long overdue.
Now theres fighting and panic in the streets.
Amid the mass disillusion, disorder and confusion,
He will rise now his plan is complete.
But me, Im only standing here
Watching it all go on and Im watching it all go wrong
And its painfully clear that the battle is near
And I wish I could just disappear.
While flash and his men drink champagne in their den
And debase life with crude ostentation,
The poor cry for more, but theyre reaching the point
Where the people cant stand any more.
But me, Im only standing here
Watching it all go on, and Im watching it all go wrong
And its painfully clear that the battle is near
And I wish I could just disappear.
