A Song
(Written By Saleem Mirza Translated By Muhammad shanazar)
Awake lass!
Move around the spinning wheel,
The time will never come back again,
This spacious yard and home of yours,
And all your delicacies are borrowed,
Your youth and beauties are to decay.
Awake lass!
Move around the spinning wheel,
The time will never come back again,
Get rid of all misdeeds and profanities,
Fill your basket with scented flowers,
And add good acts in the scroll of deeds.
Awake lass!
Move around the spinning wheel,
The time will never come back again,
Adopt the straight path of piety,
Recall the name of True Master, Almighty
And complain not speaking blasphemes.
Awake lass!
Move around the spinning wheel,
The time will never come back again,
Be not proud of this breathing hut,
False it is to trust in the house of self,
On a certain day the roof will collapse.
Awake lass!
Move around the spinning wheel,
The time will never come back again.

Endless Wheels Of Life
Spinning into
the
wheel of life
Spinning wheels
of
energy every
day
rotating an
axis
giving birth
to life
Father sky
Mother earth
always has their
way.
Stepping stones
from matter to
endless wheel
of life.

A Year's Spinning
1
He listened at the porch that day,
To hear the wheel go on, and on;
And then it stopped, ran back away,
While through the door he brought the sun:
But now my spinning is all done.
2
He sat beside me, with an oath
That love ne'er ended, once begun;
I smiled--believing for us both,
What was the truth for only one:
And now my spinning is all done.
3
My mother cursed me that I heard
A young man's wooing as I spun:
Thanks, cruel mother, for that word--
For I have, since, a harder known!
And now my spinning is all done.
4
I thought--O God!--my first-born's cry
Both voices to mine ear would drown:
I listened in mine agony--
It was the silence made me groan!
And now my spinning is all done.
5
Bury me 'twixt my mother's grave,
(Who cursed me on her death-bed lone)
And my dead baby's (God it save!)
Who, not to bless me, would not moan.
And now my spinning is all done.
6
A stone upon my heart and head,
But no name written on the stone!
Sweet neighbours, whisper low instead,
"This sinner was a loving one--
And now her spinning is all done."
7
And let the door ajar remain,
In case he should pass by anon;
And leave the wheel out very plain,--
That HE, when passing in the sun,
May see the spinning is all done.

Gandhi, the brand! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Would you believe- Gandhi world’s reigning brand
Ask pen is mightier than sword, house of Mont Blanc.
Proud to use his name on limited edition luxury pens.
All of 241, just for eleven lakhs something plus tax.
I couldn’t help wonder how Mahatma would react.
He gave me a broad toothless smile and said in fact
Wonder, why they want to dig me now out of oblivion.
Nothing to do with ideology, a gimmick to make millions.
By the way, tell me does anyone use pen these days.
Oh yes, I replied to sign the cheques, have to anyway.
He was quiet and turned his attention to the spinning wheel.
With bated breath, I waited for sometime sitting on my heels.
Man of a few words, I felt he was deep in meditation.
I was waiting patiently for a message to the nation.
Suddenly he waved his hand and winked at me.
Following his finger, I saw three mythical monkeys.

Spinning Wheel....
spinning wheel...
turning in the sand.
God didnt die...
you did!
the body taken down
from the cross silently weeps...
the tears sound like rivers,
and buds on the limb!
the bottle on the table,
containing the self...
falls to the floor,
and shatters!
the floor wet
with desire and breath.
angels dance barefoot,
the glass shimmers with light!
the wolf cub curled,
so close to the fur.
the shouts of the leaves,
unborn, unseen.
the dirty hand, and the eyes just opened.
read the sriptures in the dirt,
written in flesh!
spinning wheel....
turning in the sand!

Carnival In Kenora
Twinkle, twinkle what a pity
All alone on such a pretty night
With enchantment on your side.
Popcorn, popcorn, cotton candy,
Soft voice whispers,
This can all be right
If youll come and share a ride.
Carnival in kenora!
I let him take me for a ride
On a giant ferris wheel.
Up in the neon sky
Or far from the barkers cry
One kiss can sometimes
Make you feel like a
Spinning ferris wheel.
All the tents are taken down now;
All thats left is scuffled ground now;
Still the magic echoes in the sand.
Popcorn, popcorn, cotton candy,
Now a stranger takes my hand,
We smile and the magic understands.
Carnival in kenora!
I let him take me for a ride
On a giant ferris wheel.
Up in the neon sky
Or far from the barkers cry
One kiss can sometimes
Make you feel like a
Spinning ferris wheel

Spinning Top
(d. pickerill/p. odonoughue)
You let me go
til Im weared out
And when Im ready you say youre not
You start a flame, Im not to blame
For what I do
You heat me up, Im all aglow
I move too fast to take it slow
If you could see what you do to me
Youd feel so low
Chorus:
You keep me moving, dont let me stop
You got the whip, Im your spinning top
You keep me moving, dont let me stop
You love keeps spinning me round
You take me up to get me high
And yet you know I cant fly
If I take a chance on this romance
I know Ill fall
Chorus
You turn me round so I dont know
My left from right or where to go
You just dont care and thats not fair
Youre hurting me
Chorus (x2)
Your love keeps spinning me round
Im just your spinning top
Im just your spinning top
Your spinning top
Im just your spinning top
Oh, your spinning top
Spin me, spin me
Im your spinning top
Im just your spinning top
Spinning, spinning top.

Freezing Steel
Freezing steel
Ive flown the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel
And though my bodys back I know it cant be real
cause Ive been on that house without a guiding wheel
The house of freezing steel
Oh wheres it going, picked me up at seven
When my eyes were weak from the light of the morning
Oh sister wont you tell me what a man might want to know
This madness is fine, yes if youre mad at the time
Back on the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel
The tied my body up, Im forced to eat my meal
A cold plate of lamb and cold potatoes too
Now whats a soul to do
Oh lord above, brother wont you tell me
Is this a eucharistic dove
cause Ive been waiting for the right one to appear
But Ive seen it in your face, and baby this aint the place
Up on the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel.
I made my mind up then to get me to the wheel
I made the cabin door, the pilot turned around
He said were venus bound
Oh please take me home
After all Im only human and the earth is where I belong
I must have looked pitiful to this freak without a face
cause as he touched my head I saw myself back in bed
Ive flown the house of freezing, the house of freezing steel
And though my bodys back I know it cant be real
cause Ive been on that house without a guiding wheel
The house of freezing steel

In The House Of The Lord!
Here I dwell,
In the house of the lord,
With his only son,
And righteous sword.
Here in his power and grace
His dire wish is that mankind is one race,
You have heard from the house of the lord
His only son, and righteous sword.
Here is the power of the son of man,
Saying, 'We must take a stand! '
The example being from the house of the lord,
And his only son, and righteous sword.

Windmills Of Your Mind
Round,
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that I said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
Or the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces
but to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the colour of her hair?
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

No Train
brackish water dripping
from a rusted spicket
a broken wagon wheel
spinning in the sand
smoke rising from
a fire already dead
bells tinkling in the wind
on the porch of an
abandoned house
train tracks, no train!
words i have written
with a pen dipped in blood.

Sing on, Spinning Wheel
(PaaDavE RaaTnamaa)
(With the clarion call given by Gandhiji many intellectuals and poets plunged into Indian freedom struggle. As part of strategy to discourage the use of foreign goods, Gandhiji encouraged Indians to wear the home spun cotton (Khadi) . This song was a popular song written by Kavikokila Duvvuri Rami Reddy, glorifying the khadi and spinning wheel)

Translation:
morning star appeared, Oh spinning wheel
birds in nests chirped, Oh spinning wheel
the cotton thread that plays with the rays of dawn
the cotton thread which looks like the fiber of floral stem
the cotton thread that gets boiled in water
the cotton thread that caresses the spider’s web strand
the cotton thread that floats in waves of the breeze
spin Oh spinning wheel the gem like cotton
haul on Oh spinning wheel in celestial street
morning star appeared, Oh spinning wheel
birds in nests chirped, Oh spinning wheel
lovely song, pearly song
status keeping song, golden song
stupor expelling song, melodious song
slumber driving out song, sturdy song
stomach filling song, compassionate song
sing on Oh spinning wheel, of tomorrow’s India
perform Oh spinning wheel, Andhra’s stage show
morning star appeared, Oh spinning wheel
birds in nests chirped, Oh spinning wheel
with no clothes to wear, singing distraught
with no food to eat, lamenting with grief
not able to find the shore, in the sea of slavery
startled and scared looking cowards
simpletons languishing in self blaming
to stimulate them, to get up and blow the conch shell
twirl Oh spinning wheel, the nation’s wheel
unfurl, Oh spinning wheel, victorious ensign

The Scissors-Grinder
The old man had his box and wheel
For grinding knives and shears.
No doubt his bell in village streets
Was joy to children's ears.
And I bethought me of my youth
When such men came around,
And times I asked them in, quite sure
The scissors should be ground.
The old man turned and spoke to me,
His face at last in view.
And then I thought those curious eyes
Were eyes that once I knew.
"The moon is but an emery-wheel
To whet the sword of God,"
He said. "And here beside my fire
I stretch upon the sod.
Each night, and dream, and watch the stars
And watch the ghost-clouds go.
And see that sword of God in Heaven
A-waving to and fro.
I see that sword each century, friend.
It means the world-war comes
With all its bloody, wicked chiefs
And hate-inflaming drums.
Men talk of peace, but I have seen
That emery-wheel turn round.
The voice of Abel cries again
To God from out the ground.
The ditches must flow red, the plague
Go stark and screaming by
Each time that sword of God takes edge
Within the midnight sky.
And those that scorned their brothers here
And sowed a wind of shame
Will reap the whirlwind as of old
And face relentless flame."
And thus the scissors-grinder spoke,
His face at last in view.
And there beside the railroad bridge
I saw the wandering Jew.

Who Invented the Wheel?
Who invented the wheel?
It is an F. A. Q.
That is here eversince
The wheel came into view
Were it the Sumerians?
Can anyone say who?
Everybody's asking
Nobody seems to know
Who did first use the wheel?
The same and old query
The answer is around
Though not easy to see
Salamander or spider
Transforms into a ball
And like a wheel he goes
Down of a hill he rolls
A wheel without axle
He doesn't have to crawl

Adam got a hoe, and Eve got a spinning-wheel, and thence come all our nobles.
My Ancestors
A barefoot boy I went to school
To save a cobbler's fee,
For though the porridge pot was full
A frugal folk were we;
We baked our bannocks, spun our wool,
And counted each bawbee.
We reft our living from the soil,
And I was shieling bred;
My father's hands were warped with toil,
And crooked with grace he said.
My mother made the kettle boil
As spinning wheel she fed.
My granny smoked a pipe of clay,
And yammered of her youth;
The hairs upon her chin were grey,
She had a single tooth;
Her mutch was grimed, I grieve to say,
For I would speak the truth.
You of your ancestry may boast,--
Well, here I brag of mine;
For if there is a heaven host
I hope they'll be in line:
My dad with collie at his heel
In plaid of tartan stripe;
My mammie with her spinning wheel,
My granny with her pipe.

Fortune raises up and fortune brings low both the man who fares well and the one who fares badly; and there is no prophet of the future for mortal men.
Lady With The Spinning Head
Here she comes
Lady luck again
Figure of eight
Six and nine again
My lady with the spinning head
Whatever the deal
She wont let me down
Wherever I go
Shes always hanging round
My lady with the spinning head
La la la la la la la la la la la
Lady with the spinning head
La la la la la la la la la la la
Lady with the spinning head
Shes been gone
But I knew shed be back
Shes got the rent
She put me in the black
The lady with the spinning head
Took my mind
Took away my car
Do you dare to ask
What Im talking about
Im on top
When shes around
Shes my ticket
Out of town
La la la la la la la la la la la
Lady with the spinning head
La la la la la la la la la la la
Lady with the spinning head

Night Music
Can you hear the lone night music
Coming in so near
When I hear the lone night music
Every nightmare crumbles and they disappear
Can you hear the echoes calling
Speaking in verse
When I hear the lone night music
Everything gets stronger and I lose this curse
Help me break the chains that hold me
Keep me from the truth
I want to feel the hands that raise me
From a low down level to the highest roof
Woh oh night music
I hear it now
Night music
I want to catch the rock thats falling
Roll it back up hill
When I hear the strange night music
The whole worlds turning and Im still standing still
I feel it growing deep inside me
Still Im at a loss
When I hear the strange night music
Its a warning signal theres a bridge to cross
Good news from the next world
Tear yourself apart
X still marks the time and place
To cure your bitter heart
Fell like running water
Water of the soul
Spinning like a spinning wheel
Way beyond control
Spinning like a spinning wheel
Way beyond control
Can you hear the lone night music
Coming in so far
When I hear the lone night music
Its a lonely planet its a burning star
I want to swim the widest ocean
Diving in so deep
When I hear the lone night music
Coming in so near
When I hear the lone night music
All my nightmares crumble
And they disappear
