There is no such thing as national advertising. All advertising is local and personal. It's one man or woman reading one newspaper in the kitchen or watching TV in the den.

I Wouldnt Normally Do This Kind Of Thing
Ask me why
Ill say its most unusual
How can I even try to explain
Why today, I feel like dancing
Singing like lovers sing
When I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
Ask me when
Ill say it started when I met you
And ever since then
I knew that the past wouldnt last
For right now I think Im running
A race I know Im gonna win
And I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
If people say Im crazy
I tell 'em that it's true
I let them watch with amazement
Say it wont last beyond breakfast
Its just a phase hes going through
Denigrate or speculate
On what Im going through
Because it isnt the sort of thing Id normally do
Ask me what
Ill say I think its good for you
Believe it or not
I know where its all leading to
I feel like taking all my clothes off
And dancing to the rite of spring
And I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of
This kind of thing

Shield Bugs
I was assiduous
organizing my collection.
Had you not been told
what they were,
you might have thought
they were trees and stars,
or an orchard,
a small one of nine large trees,
three to a row,
or a large one of forty-five small conical trees
in nine groups of five,
three to a row,
or, taking part in a contest
to find the largest possible number of trees,
you could add the two together
and have fifty four
and think you had them all.
Some bright spark,
a contestant,
got the idea to replace the lot with wind turbines.
Someone was sure the turbines had been there
before the shield bugs.
Another, threw theory into chaos:
while agreeing that
a tree can be made of stars,
he also asserted,
a star can be made of trees!
Within a steady state of coexistence
each possibility pulsed
in and out of sense.

Truly Great
My walls outside must have some flowers,
My walls within must have some books;
A house that's small; a garden large,
And in it leafy nooks.
A little gold that's sure each week;
That comes not from my living kind,
But from a dead man in his grave,
Who cannot change his mind.
A lovely wife, and gentle too;
Contented that no eyes but mine
Can see her many charms, nor voice
To call her beauty fine.
Where she would in that stone cage live,
A self-made prisoner, with me;
While many a wild bird sang around,
On gate, on bush, on tree.
And she sometimes to answer them,
In her far sweeter voice than all;
Till birds, that loved to look on leaves,
Will doat on a stone wall.
With this small house, this garden large,
This little gold, this lovely mate,
With health in body, peace in heart--
Show me a man more great.

Funerals
I have been to large funerals,
even had to conduct one for a friend.
There are so many mourners that the pallbearers
have trouble turning the coffin around.
Then there have been others
where only a handful of people begrudgingly go.
My mother had one of those
and the paramount of difference shows.
Large ones are attended to say goodbye and display respect
for all that they had done for others in their lifetime.
The small ones are attended as a sign of closure
for what they did not do in their life.
Large ones have many sad
because they have to say to them their last goodbyes.
Small ones are rather sad
for either they held no respect
or their circle of real friends were very few.

Well, It Worked For Me
First thing I say each night
is
I am my own Lover;
my own best friend.
At first it was words
I did not mean
but over time
I could fill in detail
from little things
that happened each day.
Something positive to celebrate
no matter how small
a smile
a thing small but done
a sincere feeling
given and received.
Busy, I was
saying to my self
each night
building
the person
I want to become.
I added to this
just a small dream list
and acted as though
part of it was true
or coming true
and I found
done each night
my part wish
part recognition
of my small things day
could make part
of my small dreams
also come true.
So over time
I could become
not only Someone
but I could be
the kind of person
I was looking for.

Be fit for more than the thing you are now doing. Let everyone know that you have a reserve in yourself that you have more power than you are now using. If you are not too large for the place you occupy, you are too small for it.

A Mountain and A Squirrel
A mountain was saying this to a squirrel
'Commit suicide if you have self-respect
You are insignificant, still so arrogant, how strange!
You are neither wise, nor intelligent! not even shrewd!
It is strange when the insignificant pose as important!
When the stupid ones like you pose as intelligent!
You are no match in comparison with my splendor
Even the earth is low compared with my splendor
The grandeur of mine does not fall to your lot
The poor animal cannot equal the great mountain! '
On hearing this the squirrel said, 'Hold your tongue!
These are immature thoughts, expel them from your heart!
I do not care if I am not large like you!
You are not a pretty little thing like me
Everything shows the Omni-potence of God
Some large, some small, is the wisdom of God
He has created you large in the world
And He has taught me climbing large trees
You are unable to walk a single step
Only large size! What other greatness have you?
If you are large show me some of the skills I have
Show me how you break this beetle nut as I can
Nothing is useless in this world
Nothing is bad in God's creation

There is no such thing as a Mass Mind. The Mass Audience is made up of individuals, and good advertising is written always from one person to another. When it is aimed at millions it rarely moves anyone.

There are huge advertising budgets only when there's no difference between the products. If the products really were different, people would buy the one that's better. Advertising teaches people not to trust their judgment. Advertising teaches people to be stupid.

The Big L.
Shes the top,
Shes got the world on a string.
She makes me boogie,
Makes me do anything yea yea.
Hey now,
Touch the sky,
Youve got a certain kind of look in your eyes.
Well, shes a miracle,
Shes all that I need
Like the water and the air that I breathe yea yea.
Hey now,
Reach the sky,
Theres a certain kind of look in your smile.
And I know what love can do.
Yes I know what hearts can do.
The big love
Is taking the wheel,
The big love
Goes head over heels,
The big lust,
Bring it into the small world,
The bigger, the better.
Big love,
Waiting to catch the big one,
Head over heels,
The big one,
Bring it into the small world.
Im building the big big love,
Im building the big big love.
Its kinda strange,
A bit mysterious,
I gotta take it oh so so serious.
Hey now,
Touch the sky,
Youve got a certain kind of look in your eyes.
It used to be so hard,
So lonely at night,
Well, shes my baby and Im feeling alright.
Hey now,
Move the sky,
Theres a certain kind of look in that smile.
When Im making love with her.
When Im making love to her yea.
It has to be a big thing.
Its bringing me to my knees.
Has to be a big thing, big thing,
Ya know what Im saying...
