London Types: Hawker
Far out of bounds he'd figured-in a race
Of West-End traffic pitching to his loss.
But if you'd see him in his proper place,
Making the browns for bub and grub and doss,
Go East among the merchants and their men,
And where the press in noisiest, and the tides
Of trade run highest and widest, there and then
You shall behold him, edging with equal strides
Along the kerb; hawking in either hand
Some artful nothing made of twine and tin,
Cardboard and foil and bits of rubber band:
Some penn'orth of wit-in-fact that, with a grin,
The careful City marvels at, and buys
For nurselings in the Suburbs to despise!

Pot-bellied brothers
Neithe of us have no reason
To treason though imprisoned.
Yes! Incarcerated in our house
By Pot-bellied brothers in white rooms,
Sleeping on two pillows - one's ours.
All 'cause we're penurious citizens;
we, penn'orth per day can afford.
We're 'morrow's heroes
But - hahahaha!
'Tomorrow's zeroes..., ' they said.
That inflamed the blief of cynics;
'They're intensifying their Agbada pockets
From the house's treasury...'
Retribution of anarchy may befall us
If Pot-bellied brothers
Continuously dominate our house;
'They will make it an eccentric dregs! '
Ask not why in free verse -
The house is under democracy.

THE Pine
Shaft of beauty towering heavenly high
Dropping fragrances on passers by
Swaying in the Autumn breeze
The tall majestic pine trees
Shedding it's cones to the ground
Swaddled in needles all around
Fragrant and green in the snow
Ancient trees how tall they grow
Cooling dark green pines orth
Evergreen needles reaching forth
Like a sentry standing saluting the sky
Raising up through the clouds so high
Summer and winter under boughs spread
Snows of centuries have crowned your head
The fragrance of virtue of the pine
Rises to the heavens so sublime.

Woman Weighs Man’s Love
A woman seeks a mate
And earns in full his love.
The love earns her the right
To command his resource.

The Sacrifice
i've seen you
thirst
i feel what
thirst is
you look for
water
or whatever
that satisfies
the dreams of
your lips& tongue
i thirst for
thirst itself
but i do not
look for water
or even if there
is this pool
i still do not
wish to drink anything

The Gardener LXXVI: The Fair Was On
The fair was on before the temple.
It had rained from the early morning
and the day came to its end.
Brighter than all the gladness of
the crowd was the bright smile of
a girl who bought for a farthing a
whistle of palm leaf.
The shrill joy of that whistle floated
above all laughter and noise.
An endless throng of people came
and jostled together. The road was
muddy, the river in flood, the field
under water in ceaseless rain.
Greater than all the troubles of
the crowd was a little boy's trouble--
he had not a farthing to buy a painted
stick.
His wistful eyes gazing at the shop
made this whole meeting of men so
pitiful.

Rose had a huge thirst one November.
A big thirst if I well it remember.
she did drink a whole pool,
And don`t call me a fool,
But this made her thirst feel even stronger.

Godly thirst....
there is this
thirst in me, not in the tongue
the mouth denies it
there is this thirst
that water or wine or
juice
cannot quench
it is a thirst that forever
stays
a dropp of rain
a dew from a leaf
a word from my Creator
shall satisfy it.

That which we really require not is dear at a farthing.
Who has patience may get fat thrushes at a farthing apiece.
Virtue knows to a farthing what it has lost by not having been vice.

Remembering Thirst
it was when there was not water anymore
when i remember thirst
i hold the glass peering carefully if there is still any water left
there is none and so i go on and on the usual way that was
everything still contained in the vessel of my childhood
the ordinary wants still unsatisfied sleeping the whole night in thirst
even so thirsty in dreams until
finally forgetting thirst
