Since my earliest childhood a barb of sorrow has lodged in my heart. As long as it stays I am ironic if it is pulled out I shall die.

The barb in the arrow of childhood suffering is this its intense loneliness, its intense ignorance.
In The War Zone
to keep hope from escaping
the soldiers
barb-wired it
and they who have lost
all food and
ammunition
keep track of hope
silent in the barracks
trembling in
the dark

I've been working on Barb for a while. I looked at her as a sort of every woman. She's incredibly strong; she's incredibly generous. She's seemingly insane because she is in the situation of a polygamous relationship, but she had definite reasons to do it.

This Is Not Your Country
Road blocks and fire
Barb wire upon barb wire
This is not your country
Armoured cars, corrugated scars
Grafitti scrawls:
This is not your country
Home sweet fortress
Gunshot - we hate your kind
Get back !
This is not your country
I need some air
And Im stopped and repeatedly questioned:
Born and raised ?
But this is not my country
Were old news
Alls well
Say bbc scum
One child shot, but so what ?
Laid my son
In a box, three feet long
And I still dont know why
A short walk home becomes a run
And Im scared
In my own country
Were old news
Alls well
Say bbc scum
Everybodys under control
Of our surveillance globes
Were old news
Alls well
And thirty years could be a thousand
And this peugeot ad
Spins round in my head
British soldier pointing a gun
And Im only trying to post a letter
A short walk home becomes a run
And Im scared, and Im scared, I am scared
Old news
Alls well
Bbc scum
Youve got more than the dead, so zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Youve got more than the dead, so zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Youve got more than the dead, so zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Zip up your mouth
Youve got more than the dead, so zip up your mouth

Last Goodbye
before you're rusted chains
busted walls and barb wire cage
tried to hold me down
and time was just a fist of change
tossed in the water just in case
you ever came around
Chorus:
I could lose myself
I could curse like hell
but i've lost the will to even try
if you ever doubt
listen to the sound
no lies
no no no
this is my last goodbye
now pardon me if I appear
to see beyond the now and here
to try to save myself
i'm not the kind to pin the blame
but I can't take more of the same
livin on your shelf
Chorus
door closes
another one opens
I feel the cold wind blowin
over me
long gone
but not forgotten
I might be lost
I might be finally free
I'm finally free
rift
repeat 1st verse
Chorus
this is my last goodbye
(yes it is, yes it is)

Sonnet IX.
BLEST is yon shepherd, on the turf reclined,
Who on the varied clouds which float above
Lies idly gazing--while his vacant mind
Pours out some tale antique of rural love!
Ah! he has never felt the pangs that move
Th' indignant spirit, when with selfish pride
Friends, on whose faith the trusting heart relied,
Unkindly shun th' imploring eye of woe!
The ills they ought to soothe with taunts deride,
And laugh at tears themselves have forced to flow.
Nor his rude bosom those fine feelings melt,
Children of Sentiment and Knowledge born,
Through whom each shaft with cruel force is felt,
Empoison'd by deceit--or barb'd with scorn.

Sonnet IV: Why, When I Gaze
Why, when I gaze on Phaon's beauteous eyes,
Why does each thought in wild disorder stray?
Why does each fainting faculty decay,
And my chill'd breast in throbbing tumults rise?
Mute, on the ground my Lyre neglected lies,
The Muse forgot, and lost the melting lay;
My down-cast looks, my faultering lips betray,
That stung by hopeless passion,--Sappho dies!
Now, on a bank of Cypress let me rest;
Come, tuneful maids, ye pupils of my care,
Come, with your dulcet numbers soothe my breast;
And, as the soft vibrations float on air,
Let pity waft my spirit to the blest,
To mock the barb'rous triumphs of despair!

7 Deadly Sins
7 seven deadly sins
Thats how the world begins
Watch out when you step in
For seven deadly sins
Seven deadly sins
Thats when the fun begins
(seven deadly sins)
(sin number one) was when you left me
(sin number two) you said goodbye
(sin number three) was when you told me a little white lie
Seven deadly sins
Once it starts, it never ends (seven deadly sins)
Watch out aroung the bend (seven deadly sins)
A seven deadly sins (seven deadly sins)
(sin number four) was when you looked my way
(sin number five) was when you smiled
(sin number six) was when you let me stay
Sin number seven was when you touched me and told me why
Seven deadly sins
So many rules to bend
Time and time again
Seven deadly sins
Seven deadly sins
(seven deadly sins)
(seven deadly sins)
(seven deadly sins)
Seven deadly sins
Thats how the world begins (seven deadly sins)
Watch out when you step in (seven deadly sins)
For seven deadly sins
Seven (seven) seven (seven) seven (seven) seven (deadly sins)

Henry James
Who comes to-night? We open the doors in vain.
Who comes? My bursting walls, can you contain
The presences that now together throng
Your narrow entry, as with flowers and song,
As with the air of life, the breath of talk?
Lo, how these fair immaculate women walk
Behind their jocund maker; and we see
Slighted De Mauves, and that far different she,
Gressie, the trivial sphynx; and to our feast
Daisy and Barb and Chancellor (she not least!)
With all their silken, all their airy kin,
Do like unbidden angels enter in.
But he, attended by these shining names,
Comes (best of all) himself—our welcome James.

Psalm 109
I love them with the love of Jesus
Yet hatred is what they return
They refuse to turn away from evil
They embrace the fact that they will burn
They clothe themselves with curses
And darkness fills their hearts
Every word's a poisoned barb
And they shoot them on their fiery darts
In their lives they show no mercy
And the poor man they despise
They even slay the broken hearted
And the fatherless is nothing in their eyes
They destroy themselves from deep within
And darkness consumes their souls
They destroy everyone around them
And their own desires their only goal

Deadly
I often wish that I could fly
Up into a darkening sky
But something stops my deadly flight
A hidden voice a shining light
'What makes you want to take your life
With a cold and ruthless knife? '
The voice it asks me time and time
'I wish to wash away my crime.'
That is what I wish to say
But the words won't come my way
So I write them in a book
And hide it so no one can look
On the pages are my dreams
My plots, my plans, my deadly schemes
Deadly pleasure, deadly pain
Deadly sun and deadly rain
Poisoned food, corupted drink
Standing on the very brink
And when my soul if finally freed
Do not follow my deadly lead

Better Than The Knife
A woman can cut you up better than a butcher can skin and bone a turkey.
A woman can burn holes in you better than either one of us can iron a shirt.
A woman will first tell you everything, even though you weren't expecting
Then she'll expect all that back and more in return.
And if she doesn't get it
She'll put a knife through you.
Some use a sharpened, shining blade
Others barb their words with
Just the same.
A woman can melt through your heart like acid through wood and grass
A woman can rip the damn heart out through your ass
A woman is more insidious than you realise
A woman is a curse and a blessing twice disguised.
And if you don't expose the hidden truths of your soul
You'd better believe you'll suffer more letting them fly
Out in to the darkness, into the bartenders ear
Wherever they land.

For Things That We Cannot Change
the establishment
is at it again
deaf ears
strong hands
stiff minds
hard bodies
resisting change
of the clenched fists
there they are again
on barb-wired fences
defining boundaries
of thoughts
exclusiveness shutting out
variations of the race
this is the political science
of exclusion
of prisons and walls
here they are again
at the emphasis of penalties
and fines
setting aside the art
of compassion
the fusion
the inclusions
this art of loving
and giving meaning
and welcoming whatever
differences
in colors and creed
the magnanimous
art of toleration
here we are again
back to the beginning of time
the age of
renaissance
the flowering of hope
the blooms
of thoughts

The Red Shirt
When they asked me why I started doing this again
I just told them, its cause I have to...
I can't leave the life I have behind me
I tried to leave but you came to find me
you took me back you had to rewind me
taught me to listen cause I let them blind me
I spoke the truth you had to remind me
I didn't use the same rhymes all the time
there was no hill that I couldn't climb
with the fire ad crawl through barb wire
my heart beat went flat like a car tire
whats worse is I let them take my desire
I went too far I was too tired to tire
I was far too proud to look like a liar
It felt right to run the other way
I told myself ad come back another day
wiped the sweat and tears, the blood stained
when my shirt was white I realized I changed.

FromThe Arabic: An Imitation
I.
My faint spirit was sitting in the light
Of thy looks, my love;
It panted for thee like the hind at noon
For the brooks, my love.
Thy barb whose hoofs outspeed the tempest's flight
Bore thee far from me;
My heart, for my weak feet were weary soon,
Did companion thee.
II.
Ah! fleeter far than fleetest storm or steed
Or the death they bear,
The heart which tender thought clothes like a dove
With the wings of care;
In the battle, in the darkness, in the need,
Shall mine cling to thee,
Nor claim one smile for all the comfort, love,
It may bring to thee.

031210 It Could Happened
vast span of dry sand
my feet sinking hard to walk
my lips hurting, my lungs screaming
hurtful sun on my face
how did i came to this place
i wonder what's over the dunes
i can hear drums and circling birds
i can hardly see besides black wings
the size of a golf umbrella, flapping
somehow it's cooling the surrounding
i reach a gravel road, barb wire fence
enclosing herds of cows on green grass
then i heard thunderous noise, a tank
i dove on the ditch, i hit something
it hurts so much, i feel off the bed
washer is off balance making noise
still woozy i run naked across the room
oh! my! i'm not aware they're all home
