Research on Cinderalla - after Shel Silverstein In search of Cinderalla

From dawn til dusk,
from land to land,
without too much ado,
I'd seek the perfect ankle,
From dawn til dusk
I'd stretch my hand
to virgin, husk, - not you! -
perceptions change, oh dear, they do!
perfection minds must rankle

In Search of Cinderella

From dusk to dawn,
From town to town,
Without a single clue,
I seek the tender, slender foot
To fit this crystal shoe.
From dusk to dawn,
I try it on
Each damsel that I meet.
And I still love her so, but oh,
I've started hating feet.

Stretch Out And Wait

On the high-rise estate
What's at the back of your mind ?
Oh, a three-day debate
On a high-rise estate
What's at the back of your mind ?
Two icy-cold hands conducting the way
It's the eskimo blood in my veins
Amid concrete and clay
And general decay
Nature must still find a way
So ignore all the codes of the day
Let your juvenile influences sway
This way and that way (this way)
This way and that way (this way)
God, how sex implores you
To let yourself lose yourself
Stretch out and wait
Stretch out and wait
Oh ... let your puny body, lie down, lie down
As we lie, you say
As we lie, you say
Stretch out and ...
Stretch out and wait
Stretch out and wait
Oh ... let your puny body lie down, lie down
As we lie, you say :
Will the world end in the night time ?
(i really don't know)
Or will the world end in the day time ?
(i really don't know)
And is there any point ever having children ?
Oh, i don't know
What i do know is we're here and it's now
So ... stretch out and wait
Stretch out and wait
There is no debate, no debate, no debate
How can you conciously contemplate
When there's no debate, no debate ?
Stretch out and wait
Stretch out and wait
Stretch out and wait
Wait
Wait
Wait
Wait

The Center Of The World

At the center of the world
There's a statue of a girl
She is standing near a well
With a bucket bare and dry
I went and looked her in the eyes
And she turned me into sand
This clumsy form that I despise
It scattered easy in her hand
And came to rest upon a beach
With a million others there
We sat and waited for the sea
To stretch out so that we could disappear
Into the endlessness of blue
Into the horror of the truth
See

The Rest Is History

Saw you across the room
Felt somethin stir inside my soul
Knew Id never be the same
Now that love had taken hold
Then when you touched me
There was no doubt
You unterstood what my heart was all about
And the rest is history
The story of you and me
For all eternity
The record will show
Well fill up the pages
Romance for the ages
There for the world to see
The rest ist history
Before we spoke a word
My heart told me you were the one
When you pressed your hand to mine
I knew my life had just begun
Like some old movie
Music filled the night
Lost held each other tight.
And the rest is history
The story of you and me
For all eternity
The record will show
Well fill up the pages
Romance for the ages
There for the world to see
The rest ist history
And the rest is history
The story of you and me

Evening's Dusk

Evening’s dusk, eerie forebodings,
Making one feel so insecure,
Blotting out distance, shapes of things,
Creating a scene, too obscure,
Shadows that hide the strange unknown,
Lurking when you are out alone.

Evening’s dusk creeps across the sky,
Twelve hours of night has just begun.
Moon hanging motionless up high,
Reflecting light, from earth’s own sun,
Lighting darkness with borrowed rays,
Lifting the black in many ways.

Evening’s dusk, rest for man, not beast,
Off to our homes, we go to rest,
All the days noise has slowly, ceased,
Animals though are on a quest,
For their nuptials they find at night,
When humans are well out of sight.

Lemures

In Nineveh
And beyond Nineveh
In the dusk
They were afraid.

In Thebes of Egypt
In the dust
They chanted of them to the dead.

In my Lesbos and Achaia
Where the God dwelt
We knew them.

Now men say "They are not":
But in the dusk
Ere the white sun comes -
A gay child that bears a white candle -
I am afraid of their rustling,
Of their terrible silence,
The menace of their secrecy.

Early Works - Woodland Silence

The light that dawn brought
now fades as dusk returns
with it comes a soft breeze
that whispers to the trees
as lovers walk hand in hand
through twilights wonderland
the birds in the trees that sang
now rest their heads in sleep
as in the woodland silence
there is heard not a peep.

My White Mouse

At dusk I saw a craintive mouse
That sneaked and stole around the house;
At first I took it for a ghost,
For it was snowy white - almost.

I've seen them in captivity,
But this white mouse was wild and free,
And every eye with stealth it stole
And foraged in the garbage hole.

I told the folks, yet wondered why
No one could see the mouse but I;
For it was really, truly white,
And not just silvered by moonlight.

And then there came a big black cat,
And thought I said: "Get out of that!"
It stared at me with savage eyes,
As big and yellow as moonrise.

And often times I wonder whether
They didn't just go off together,
In the bright moonlight, paw in paw,
For never more my mouse I saw.

Hand-Me-Down!

got my hand-me-down boots,
and my hand-me-down jeans.
my broke down hand-me-down hat,
doing hand-me-down things.

my hand-me-down fire,
and my hand-me-down pot.
take a hand-me-down chair,
i'll share what i've got.

got some hand-me-down thoughts,
a couple of hand-me-down songs.
i've got a hand-me-down heart
that wont leave you alone.

we'll talk about hand-me-down freedom,
and hand-me-down truth....
in this hand-me-down world,
it's just me and you!

in this hand-me-down world....
paying hand-me-down dues!

Wait for a right hand

Pepper finds its value at the hand of Arabs.
Butter gets its worth at the hand of Eskimos.

Better be alone if unable to find the right hand.

Better to abandon than
Land in wrong hand

Living In A World Without Her

My girl could break my heart
And tear my soul apart, but i
Couldnt see myself living in a world
Without her
Shes a tear, shes a scream
Takes me high, but my worst dream
Could I survive living in a world
Without her
As my mother said open the door
I didnt want to be that boy
All my friends told me Id pull through
But all thats said and all thats done
Wont persuade me that Im wrong
I know Id die living in a world
Without her
All my hopes and all my dreams
Rest with her, or so it seems
I never want to see the world
Without her
Shes a saint, shes a clown
Picks me up when Im down
Thered be so much missing from the world
Without her
Tangled up in falling vines
She took my hand, I know shes mine
Pickin up the pieces of the past
Well, I awoke before the dawn
Dreamed wed fought and she had gone
Now I know how it feels
Without her
An empty club, when we first met
Sharing our last cigarette
How could I have lived in a world
Without her
The sweetest girl I ever had
Shes the best, she must be mad
Theres no way I would live in a world
Without her
We walked four miles to get back home
Through the crowds we walked alone
She told me all about her last stand
The sun came up and lit the scene
She looked so fine, so I see
Theres no way Im living in a world
Without her

3 Days After You Were In School

It landed on Mars! !
And,3 days after you were in school;
Oh yes, you started school 3 days after 'Curiosity' landed on Mars.

He won the 100 Metres in London and,
3 days after you were in school;
She won the 100 Metres in London and,
3 days after you were in school;
And like the muse of the green men and the green women!
But, the green room is now waiting for the children.

The white light came in to direct you!
With words of care and the works of peace;
However, you were in school 3 days after 'Curiosity' landed on Mars.

Lay waste to my own dark wastelands

I have no rest on sea or mainland…
Although I've ask for, His helping hand
As yet I've no rest in His right-hand
Not a plaintive second less fanned.

But with faith, and an out stretched hand
Foundations have I raised upland
So I'll affirm; I'll pray they'll withstand.
Those deepest pitfalls into quicksand:

Here the house ill reputed soul bandstands.
On this a freehold - with a freehand!
But mortals like I need His commands!
As the years day's hour's minutes disband…

As the framer takes to his farmlands
I'll lift my cobalt pen wet from the inkstand
And take to these white fields these grasslands
And lay waste to my own dark wastelands.

I Want My Love To Rest Tonight

Sisters, dont blame my man too much,
I know hes doing his best.
I know his fear and loneliness,
He can do no more, no less.
He was brought up by us women,
And the world that told him to be a man.
He reached and stretched to be the one
While millions more tried to be that one.
I want my love to rest tonight
So he can face the world tomorrow.
I want my love to sleep tonight
So he can deal with tomorrow.
Sisters, dont blame your man to much,
You know hes doing his best.
You know his fear and loneliness,
He can do no more, no less.
He was told by his mothers to never trust girls,
He was told by his fathers to never shed tears.
He sees girls chasing after superstars,
While their men are sitting behind bars.
I want my love to rest tonight
So he can face the world tomorrow.
I want my love to sleep tonight
So he can deal with tomorrow.
Sisters, dont blame our men to much,
We know theyre doing their best.
We know their fear and loneliness,
They can do no more, no less.
They were told by us to get ahead,
Be gentle and tender, yet hard and strong.
Nothing short of a living god,
Nothing short of james bond.
If we all knew that no ones to be ashamed,
But that the society is to be blamed.
We could then come together again
And direct our energies towards changing the world.
Were all blind and crippled mates,
Frustrated would-be presidents of united states.
We dont know how to cope with ourselves,
Or to love our mates for being themselves.
I want my love to rest tonight
So he can face the world tomorrow.
I want my love to sleep tonight
So he can deal with tomorrow.

White Wolf

She was the one and only indian girl
all that was left in her tribe
she gave so much in her world
a love you could'nt describe
all were left for dead
except this one who said..

Now my heart is like a White Wolf
that forever roams
different from the rest
that wander and can't see
all that use to be

They burned down all our homes
tortured and abused
she walked around confused
white man lies, we were used

She stood on top of a crest
wounds upon her chest
said this world is too far gone
like the White Wolf I go on alone

My heart turned into stone
tormented by their touch
they did just a little too much
this world now my crutch

She said I'm just a White Wolf here
no more will I walk in fear
they may have tried to break my spirit
still my soul is free
no longer will I fret
my will, will be done

U N I C O R N 1 5

and though there are places, times,
when you are most likely to find it
there in your heart,
there in front of your eyes –

the mossy glade within the woods,
the sunlight filtering through the trees,
or in the pure air of the highest hills,
or among the tossing white-topped waves –

or at the quiet times –
as the dawn sunlight makes the world anew,
plays to make diamonds of the dew,
or as the peace of dusk descends,
carrying a silent blessing –

the places and the times
when you’re most ready in yourself to meet it –

yet it can appear to you at any time or place –
the crowds, the rush, the noise
cannot disturb it
if it wishes to be seen by you

and afterwards, you’ll remember,
know just why it happened to be then and there;
and what it told you, all about yourself;

when it’s there, although we call it ‘white’,
it’s more than white – almost transparent,
almost like a living crystal sculpture of itself,
almost silver; somewhere where substances and colours
are first made, and meet each other;

it may look at you, with eyes that seem to know everything
and find everything, peaceful, loving, beautiful and reasonable;
or it may not look at you; but still
it talks with you with its very presence;
you know that’s so, because
you find yourself speaking to it in the same way,
opening your heart to it, because
it listens to you; it’s there just listening;
its listening is understanding;

and afterwards, the ‘afterwards’ is changed for ever;
as if you’ve met yourself, and find that good;
the world is yours, and possibilities
are boundless; and the unicorn
does not need your eyes - it makes its home
there in your heart
as if it had never been away.

Wake Not for the World-Heard Thunder

Wake not for the world-heard thunder,
Nor the chimes that earthquakes toll;
Stars may plot in heaven with planet,
Lightning rive the rock of granite,
Tempest tread the oakwood under,
Fear not you for flesh or soul;
Marching, fighting, victory past,
Stretch your limbs in peace at last.

Stir not for the soldier's drilling,
Nor the fever nothing cures;
Throb of drum and timbal's rattle
Call but men alive to battle,
And the fife with death-notes filling
Screams for blood--but not for yours.
Times enough you bled your best;
Sleep on now, and take your rest.

Sleep, my lad; the French have landed,
London's burning, Windsor's down.
Clasp your cloak of earth about you;
We must man the ditch without you,
March unled and fight short-handed,
Charge to fall and swim to drown.
Duty, friendship, bravery o'er,
Sleep away, lad; wake no more.

Forest Glade

White tigers like to rest and so
They find a gentle spot
And there, they stay, just laying low,
As they like that a lot.
As if their strength of great renown
Had disappeared from view,
They stretch their paws, their frowns droop down
And muscles relax, too.

White tigers get their lazy moods,
The wise do not disturb.
You can't tempt them with juicy foods,
For appetites they curb.
They know it's time they should be still,
So why do other things?
There's nothing like the silent thrill
That warm contentment brings

White tigers, please leave them alone,
Don't try to chase them off.
Especially not the ones full grown
That feel they've had enough.
Just live and let live, give them space.
Don't say you're unafraid!
Let them enjoy their gentle pace
Within the forest glade.
