Rumor Has It

(bruce burch/vern dant/larry shell)
I overheard a conservation your name was mentioned in
But they didnt talk about us, only her again
I didnt want to listen but I hung on every word
They said some things I wish I hadnt heard
Chorus:
Rumor has it she has you
Rumor has it you love her too
Talk is cheap but the price is high when its true
Rumor has it she has you
This towns so small a whisper can be heard a mile away
And people here will gossip when theres nothing else to say
I wouldnt have believed my ears but I see it in your eyes
The stories going round this town arent lies
Rumor has it she has you
Rumor has it you love her too
Talk is cheap but the price is high when its true
Rumor has it she has you
Whoa...rumor has it she has you

Following the Recipe of Ancient Syrio-Greek Magicians

Said an aesthete: "What distillation from magic herbs
can I find—what distillation, following the recipe
of ancient Greco-Syrian magicians—
that will bring back to me for one day (if its power
doesn't last longer) or even for a few hours,
my twenty-third year,
bring back to me my friend of twenty-two,
his beauty, his love.

What distillation, following the recipe
of ancient Greco-Syrian magicians, can be found
to bring back also—as part of this return of things past—
even the little room we shared."

I Turn Everything Over

Monday found me on my knees
again
Breathing You in
To blur the lines that mark where I
begin
And where You end
No use in trying to pretend
Come take me again
'Cause rumor has it I'm not who
I've been
Come define me
Chorus:
What can we do
If these rumors are true?
I turn everything over
I turn myself in
I turn everything over
I turn myself in
There's nothing left to me to
defend
I turn everything over
I turn myself in, yeah
The evidence convicts the hollow
men
After looking inside
To my dismay I find I'm just one of
them
'Cause I'm already but not yet
resurrected fallen man
Come break this limbo
And I know You know just who
I've been
Come define me
Chorus
Rumor has it you love me
Rumor has it the world spins
upside down
Rumor has it my only hope is in You
And the rumors are true
I turn everything over
Chorus (2x)

Black History Month

In January...
There they are making history.
In February...
There they are making history.
In March...
There they are making history.
In April...
There they are making history.
In May...
There they are making history.
In June...
There they are making history.
In July...
There they are making history.
In August...
There they are making history.
In September...
There they are making history.
In October...
There they are making history.
In November...
There they are making history.
In December...
There they are making history.

But...
It's nice to know
The shortest month of the year
Was chosen to celebrate
The great deeds of African-Americans!
However...
It is those LEAP YEARS,
That really have the blacks jumping for joy!

History why do we care

History
a famous person dies
History
a war rages
History
a new invention
History
a building opens
History
what happens if something happens to me
is that history?
no....
So why do we care.....

To... (Kern)

I still recall the wondrous moment
When you appeared before my eyes,
Just like a fleeting apparition,
Just like pure beauty's distillation.

When'er I languished in the throes of hopeless grief
Amid the troubles of life's vanity,
Your sweet voice lingered on in me,
Your dear face came to me in dreams.

Years passed. The raging, gusty storms
Dispersed my former reveries,
And I forgot your tender voice,
Your features so divine.

In exile, in confinement's gloom,
My uneventful days wore on,
Bereft of awe and inspiration
Bereft of tears, of life, of love.

My soul awakened once again:
And once again you came to me,
Just like a fleeting apparition
Just like pure beauty's distillation.

My heart again resounds in rapture,
Within it once again arise
Feelings of awe and inspiration,
Of life itself, of tears, and love.

Carl Sandburg

History is a living horse laughing at a wooden horse. History is a wind blowing where it listeth. History is no sure thing to bet on. History is a box of tricks with a lost key. History is a labyrinth of doors with sliding panels, a book of ciphers with the code in a cave of the Saragossa sea. History says, if it pleases, Excuse me, I beg your pardon, it will never happen again if I can help it.

Spicy With A Little Bit Of Raunch

I am not a rumor.
Nor am I a page from a script,
To overdo as rehearsed.

I am who I am with no excuses,
To create on the spot or make up...
With a hiding of my flaws.

I have been through too much in my life,
To solicit from anyone an attention to me given.
I am motivated and obsessed by initiative I can't rid.

I am not a rumor.
Although some told on me I have heard are very good.
Spicy with a little bit of raunch.
Nor am I a page from a script.
I live to adventure and not to be limited.
And rehearsed?
I offend too many who are pretentious.

The History Teacher

Woman!

Where exactly
Did you put me
In the women's history?

Am I History?
Or a part of it?

And for how long you are lacking me in;
Between
Your History,
Women's History, and
Your archives?

Does time make sense to you
As a History teacher or
As a History professor?

Cause', History, buying time, and rejuvenation
Are for emperors.

Are you making me
An emperor?

Or a Faeroe?
If so,
How precise your are?

And if you can't feel my present presence
how possibility could you feel me through your archives?

Nothing I Could Say

I remember the first time,
I confronted someone...
Reacting to a rumor.
And from a third person heard.

I shouted obscenities,
In the face of this person.
Only to discover...
The rumor I heard,
Had been about another.

Years has passed.
And I have seen again,
That person I offended.
And with friends that person said to me...
'Are you still that fool I remembered?
And are you still as ignorant,
As you impressed me first to be? '

There was nothing I could say.
I had learned to keep my mouth shut.
And from those wishing to start confrontations...
I don't acknowledge this.
I simply walk away.

Growing older to wisen up,
Has its benefits.

I Got The Same Old Blues

(j.j. cale)
Have you heard that rumor thats goin around
My babys got a man, lord way across town
Its the same old story
Tell me where will it end
Yes I heard the news its the same old blues again
Well I wrote you a letter, must have read it wrong
Stood at the doorway and baby you was gone
Took a lot of courage
To let the telephone ring
I got the same old blues, same old blues again
Well you gave me the business, though I didnt mind
cause I got a lot of patience, lord got a lot of time
Its the same old story
Tell me where will it end
I got the same old blues, same old blues again
Here come my blues
Gonna find me a mountain and gonna hide out
Aint talkin to you babe, lord I aint comin back
Well I heard that rumor, tell where will it end
I got the same old blues, same old blues again
Have you heard that rumor thats goin around
My babys got a man, lord way across town
Its the same old story
Tell me where will this end
Yes I heard the news its the same old blues again
I got the same old blues, same old blues again
I got the blues... same old blues

Self Promotion

The best why to get a rumor started,
Especially when one lives in a small town environment...
And depending on publicity for a charity event.
Or something that requires the attendance of an audience.
One should select someone known to spread juicy gossip.

Tell them something outlandish,
Believed in the strictest of confidence.
Add tasty flavor to it!
And...
There you are.
What was said to them,
Will travel faster than any advertising campaign.
And to ears near and those perked up listening far.

'I don't believe this!
Are you serious? '

~Uh huh.
'Mos Def'.
But please, please...
Don't say a 'thing' to anyone.
That was just between you and me.~

However...
One must be timely AND clever.
Start this rumor at least six months before the due date,
Of the actual occurrence of the occasion.
Save a few dollars on that self promotion.

Counting On You

I want you to be my little lover
I want you to be my power glide
Oh, oh, oh, little girl, dont misunderstand me
Cuz theres a rumor going round
Somebodys gonna let me down
And I dont know what its all about
Or if its true
Im counting on you
I want you to drive my el dorado
I want you to fly my aeroplane
Oh, oh, oh, little girl, dont misunderstand me
Cuz theres a rumor going round
Somebodys gonna let me down
And I dont know what its all about
Or if its true
Im counting on you
Counting on you
Well I saw your reflection in the river
And I swear I heard you in the wind
Oh, oh, oh, little girl, dont misunderstand me
Cuz theres a rumor going round
Somebodys gonna let me down
And I dont know what its all about
Or if its true
Im counting on you

Our History

If my history would end here
I know
your history will begin.

Our history
happens not at the same time
how I wish I could see
what history you will make.

If my history would end here

your history will begin.

Verducation Distillation

Verducation distillation
Did you think the weapons could go go green
Did you thing think the thresholds stood still unseen
In mass ash production circulation blood machine

Chain chant reigns no kit kat break to flee
Chewing at McDonald's an early lunch of me
Chilly sights of spices and a broken tv

You hop
You scotch
You watch

A sit com for a clown rip rapping a seat to sit
A bang bang smoking pot puffing at ‘that's it'
A broadband surface for ms to transmit

It's they
For a day
An early month of May

Clicking at an interpreter's sign
Of things both evil and divine
An indifferent ‘that's fine'

Too nigh
You fly
You sigh

Sigh sign deep inhale an early breeze
Breathe in the green at a too late ease
Before real life moves and all movies freeze

Verducation distillation
Did you think the weapons could go go green
Did you thing think the thresholds stood still unseen
In mass ash production circulation blood machine

What Are You Saying?

Why are the people looking shocked and stunned?

'The one they elected to public office,
To represent their interests.
Has actually confessed to making a mistake,
Without it being yet formally acknowledged.'

NO! ?

'Yes!
And on top of it,
He is holding himself accountable...
For his own actions.'

WHAT?
What on Earth did he do?

'He was seen early this morning.
Jogging.
And without a jockstrap! '

So...
What do you suspect will happen next?

'Well,
It is just a rumor.
No one yet has had this confirmed.
Or has come forward with any evidence.'

Who started the rumor?

'I have my own suspicions.
And these politicians today will do anything,
To get re-elected.'

What are you saying?

'Look!
Would you be that concerned,
About who had a jockstrap on jogging...
At 5: 30 in the morning?
It's not like he's a member of the royal family.
No one cares to spot his jewels.'

What time in the morning does he jog?
And where?
