Self Promotion

The best why to get a rumor started,
Especially when one lives in a small town environment...
And depending on publicity for a charity event.
Or something that requires the attendance of an audience.
One should select someone known to spread juicy gossip.

Tell them something outlandish,
Believed in the strictest of confidence.
Add tasty flavor to it!
And...
There you are.
What was said to them,
Will travel faster than any advertising campaign.
And to ears near and those perked up listening far.

'I don't believe this!
Are you serious? '

~Uh huh.
'Mos Def'.
But please, please...
Don't say a 'thing' to anyone.
That was just between you and me.~

However...
One must be timely AND clever.
Start this rumor at least six months before the due date,
Of the actual occurrence of the occasion.
Save a few dollars on that self promotion.
