TIVO executives stand up and say, 'Well, we're not getting rid of commercials, but we are letting them fast forward, because people like commercials, and if they see one that they like they stop and watch it.' I mean, please.

I think people really appreciate clever commercials, as do I. I think they're very entertaining. You just have to wade through all the garbage. That's one of the reasons people watch the Super Bowl. A lot of them watch it to see the commercials and not the actual game.

Does there, I wonder, exist a being who has read all, or approximately all, that the person of average culture is supposed to have read, and that not to have read is a social sin? If such a being does exist, surely he is an old, a very old man.

I think most people read and re-read the things that they have liked. That's certainly true in my case. I re-read Pound a great deal, I re-read Williams, I re-read Thomas, I re-read the people whom I cam to love when I was at what you might call a formative stage.

Hated Shadows

Happy people
with happy faces

Do happy things
in happy places

Little to worry
little to care

Never are sorry
never are there

Through the Viel they live
they cannot see
people around them
people like me

People Invisible
people Divisible

We are not important to happy people
we do not exist
broken shadows of broken people

Happines Glows

Shadows can not exist

With their happy lives
their happy husbands and happy wives
their happy bars
their happy cars
they shine brite
like stars

The shadows
look onto the light with envy
knowing they cannot co-exist
feel hopeless
lost
sedentary
singular

Hated.

Too Patient

When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
That no longer exist.

I had placed people,
Who I considered friends on this list.
And for years they had been on it...
Doing and saying things to me as they wished.
Some don't speak to me.
But my name is on their lips.

When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
That should not on my list exist!

Very few on my priority list,
Have me on their agenda.
And if they do,
I'm sure it's for fun, sport and gossip.

When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
I couldn't not explain...
Why some names had hearts near them.
Did I do that?
Did I draw them in?

I use to dropp every and anything,
To be at someone's aide.
Some people I would call everyday...
Just to see if they were okay.
I've even allowed my own work to be submitted...
So folks could get their college degrees.
Joking about this,
I am not!
I have been the subject of innuendos and lies,
As if my life meant nothing at all.
To leave me to walk around with 'my' pain disguised.

Then I awakened and realized.
I am considered a fool!

Today...
When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
That no longer exist.

And wondered to myself 'WHY'...
Is this stuff still 'there'.
Get rid of it!
This makes no sense.
Why do you have these people's lives,
Prioritized?

'That is being too patient!
Fix this and get this done quick! '
I have moments when I am completely rational.

The main thing is you and I should exist, and that we should be you and I. Apart from that let everything go as it likes. The best order of things to my way thinking, is the one I was meant to be part of, and to hell with the most perfect of worlds if I am not in it. I would rather exist, even as an impudent argufier, than not exist at all.

I do not exist

I do not exist,

I do not breath,

I do not bleed

I do not hurt

I do not exist in your eyes,

not anymore,

I am far, far away, like

the stars that don't exist,

but still they shine and

you can see them far away,

but there not alive, there not

really there. Yes I am not there,

not for you, I do

not want your pity.

I do not want my broken smile

painted in your thoughts.

I do not exist, I am not there,

do not look for me, I do not

exist, I am not there, I am not there

Dreaded Requests

I am not a rude or ignorant man,
but there are some things,
that I will not do.
Unfortunately, I do not like
to read a lot of what
I am politely requested to read.
I am often bombarded by people
asking me to read
and comment on their work.
I do not like to be rude
and ignore their pleas,
but I just read what I like,
not what I am asked to read.
I choose whom I like,
if I see a title I find interesting
I will take the time to read it
and make a mental note of the author.
If I like what I read,
I will dip into that author’s work
time and time again.
I do not care if they read my work or not
that is their choice and I have mine.
All I ask is let me make up my own mind.
Do not bombard me with notes
requesting that I read your work,
as I am likely to ignore them.
I am not being rude or ignorant
it is I just do not do requests.

Fanmail

Dear Sirs,
To whom is may concern
theres facts id like to learn
so many things i wanna know
especially trivial info paraphernalia
badges and regalia please send me everything
Cuz I
am interested in you
and everything you do
i find myself at all your shows
could you tell me were you buy your clothes
could you sign my little sisters face
put your signature any place and please send me a bio
Cuz we've got fan mail
we really really read it
Fan Mail
we really really read it
I sent you my letter now i want a reply
you dont know any better than you wont take your time
with my Fan Mail
So i would like to know just if and when
you'll be in town again
so that i could meet with you
and brag at my freinds at school
have you been all around the world
have you seen every kinda of girl
or are you from the other side
Cuz you
you cant believe everything that you read
with the hypocrisy and the greed
the papers all the things that they say
they dont tell me anything anyway
thats why ive gotta get it straight from you
without an obligation
My Fan Mail (oohs and ahhs)
Whats this i find to my suprise
those fans that i idolized
no longer seem to exist

Sunshine Estate

There is a place which I have created
It is fictional, it is mine
Called Sunshine Estate

In this place, everyone is happy
People who hurt people do not exist
So no one is hurt

In this place, everyone is simple
People who create drama do not exist
So there is never any

In this place, everyone is normal
People do not judge
So prejudice does not exist

In this place, the sun always shines
Even when it rains
So there is still a rainbow

In Sunshine Estate
Everything and everyone is perfect
and Everyone is happy
pity its just a place of my imagination

Case Closed

When you read me,
You are not going to leave me.
I am not doing this for myself.
Self impressive?
I am motivated, yes!
But not to that degree...
I have to constantly address,
My own self impressiveness!
That kind of vanity has not been introduced
To my ego!
Don't need it. It can go!
And my ego and I can be at odds...
As to how it should be displayed!
So I carry resumés.
Trying to avoid a dissertation of a thesis being read.
'That' was just my ego speaking!
Sometimes it gets 'lofty' and out of my head.

But I do wish to produce something that seduces,
Your imagination.
Something that elevates understanding...
With a comprehension attached to match!
I don't have a problem observing various races together in peace.
That is why I take the direct route and not the scenic approach...
Whenever I write or speak!
People want to pretend these things do not exist
From a self centered selfishness!
Creating the rascist divisions and splits with conficts!
And...
An exaggeration of self worth observed with it!

They are all over the place in my environment.
With asses on shoulders and noses in the air!
I am glad many things I have seen from my birth!
And my parents didn't allow my sisters and I to get too grand!
We know what we have and 'who' put it there.
It wasn't laid in our hands...
That's for sure.
We WORKED!
And HARD...
To produce what we do to get it done!
I'm the eldest AND the only son...
So the challenges I created,
Came with cliffhangers!

So...
When you read me,
You are not going to leave me.
I am not doing this for myself.
I've already done that!
Now it is ready to share with you!
And I want you addicted!
Case closed!
'That' was just my ego speaking!
Normally I am more tactful!

TV Addiction

I recall when books were read
Television's now watched instead
Down the tube our culture's heading
Brain paralysis is what it's spreading

We're fed commercials on demand
In our great star spangled land
'Oh-oh say can you see'
Something good on TV?

If we sit and stare at those TV soaps
We can kiss goodbye to parental hopes
Children drown in this dumbing abyss
All kids deserve much more than this

Hours of staring at TV screens
Can blow our brains to smithereens
Why not read some poems and fiction
And lay to rest this tube addiction

You Feel a Sense of Worthlessness

If those 'things' did not exist,
Would you still be who you are?
They have given you a sense of status.
And without them,
You feel a sense of worthlessness.
And you have paid a price to have them.
Even when they must be taken away...
They seem to stale with the commonplace of their use.
Taken for granted and has seduced...you,
Into shameless needing!
Like an appendage depended upon.

And you?
You try not to feel lost without them!
But you lay craving their use.
Feeling useless.
You can not do without them.
They are attached like a habit.
Like a muscle flexed.

They grow on you to affix themselves.
Like a missing leech recognized when absent.
However...
These taxing blood suckers have no feeling for you at all.
They are just things!
Things.
Things.
And yet those things...
They stay on your mind!
On your mind they stay.
And yet...those things?
If those 'things' did not exist,
Would you still be who you are?
Would you recognize yourself,
Without them?

Who are you anyway?
Do you know?
Have you cared to know?

If those 'things' did not exist,
Would you still be who you are?
They have given you a sense of status.
And without them,
You feel a sense of worthlessness.
And you have paid a price to have them.
Even when they must be taken away...
They seem to stale with the commonplace of their use.

People Who Read People Magazin

(Kinky Friedman)
Well, I'm here to say I got turned away from Studio 54
Back to neon lights and lonely nights and saw-dust on the floor
And if she ever loved me, she don't love me anymore,
And if anyone should ask me, here's who I'm singing for:
For the people who read People Magazine,
For the soap opera lovers, for the home-town bowling team,
For everybody everywhere who's ever lost a dream,
For the people who read people who read People Magazine.
Now if you're too New York for Texas, too Texas for L.A.
You been chasing trends like rainbow ends but you're always just a song away
And if the White House wouldn't have ya, play in every little honky-tonk and bar
The good Lord made the Heavens, ah but He never made a star.
No, its the people who read People Magazine,
It's the soap opera lovers, its the home-town bowling team,
It's everybody everywhere who's ever lost a dream,
For the people who read people who read People Magazine.
And to tell you the truth this telephone booth gets lonesome in the rain,
But son, I'm 21 in Nashville and I'm 43 in Maine.
And when your mama gets home, would you tell her I phoned, it'd take a life-time to explain
That I'm a country-picker with a bumper-sticker that says: ?God Bless John Wayne?.
And bless the people who read People Magazine,
Bless the soap opera lovers, bless the home-town bowling team,
Bless everybody everywhere who's ever lost a dream,
For the people who read people who read People Magazine.
Bless the people who read people who read People Magazine.

Does Happiness Exist?

Is happiness a myth or does it
really exist.
If it exist why are so many people
unhappy in this world.
Why do many feel so much pain
if it's really there.
Happiness is something so small
that is wanted so much.
Everyone looks for that moment
of happiness but so many never
receive it.
Does it exist?
