Show Tune II
That's the long and short of it
now you know
how I've been waiting all these years
where I'm coming from
that's the long and short of it.
That's the long and short of it
now you see
just how hot hot jazz was
how it turned about, my bookcase
that's the long and short of it.
That's the long and short of it
now you know
that my arrest record's
not my best record
that's the long and short of it.
That's the long and short of it
now you see
how the Past's like a love
you can neither leave nor live
that's the long and short of it
That's the long and short of it
now you know
it was no gun in my pocket
it was a rocket
that's the long and short of it.
That's the long and short of it
and you're wond'ring dear
how I kept so pure
hull, it was easy
that's the long and short of it.
That's the long and short of it
now you see
so bounce your head
into bed
that's the long and short of it.
That's the long and short of it
read the blues
in these tattoos
make a song of it
that's the short and long of it.
How I wish
there was a bridge-
then I could burn it;
or the train
of a refrain
then I could board it
but there isn't
no there isn't, so...

I go to see grand prix every year, and I watch every race on TV for sure. I probably go to three or four CART races and three or four Formula One races.

The race and the entrants
Running the RaceRunning the race, the entrant is thinking,
How shall I go, shall I be fast tracking;
The man calls their names and they each get down,
But someone starts off early, oh what a frown.
They all get ready, and the man says ready, set go,
Off they all start, around the track they all know,
The runner he thinks, as he races along there,
Have I done enough practice, as the crowd do stare.
But; soon he starts to put speed in each step,
And races ahead, The pace has some depth;
As they come up fast to the first time round,
One of the runners knocks another to the ground.
The runner is now fifteen feet ahead of the rest,
He wants to win the race, another medal in his nest;
As the race comes soon to the end for each one,
That entrant remembered the race of life soon to come.
As Paul had spoken of the race we all run,
In life it's not how much we have, but what we've done;
We run the race of life, seeking to live right,
Serving God our Father, walking in the light.
As we get to the end of the race we run,
When we finish our race well hear hopefully well done;
We can't go wrong when we do right and serve the Lord,
Pray, show kindness and care, and study His Word.

An international race in the relevant technologies is getting under way at this point, not necessarily with an understanding of where that race leads in the long run, but strongly motivated by the short-term payoffs.

Race in a Race
Absurd and upright races are held.
Rare birds and goring bulls thrill and maul.
The toddlers walk fast and the girls fly and dance.
There is race to buy in auction,
the high-performing cricketers
and a race to see nudity in the nets.
Bright chaps in medicine and engineering
race to join terror outfits, thanks to the tenets
they imbibe, and alarm the nation with weak laws.
The youth said to be suppressed so long
race to harass the girls of soft castes
and go in a mob to silence, any grumble.
The youth of these days know all trickery,
race to seat on the seats of power
and demand bribes in open in offices.
Hired gangs race to wield weapons,
kill in the premises of courts
and the cops and the courts book and let them free.
There is a race to encroach the vacant plots,
a race to snatch the sacred-chains
and a race to marry girls in plenty.
In what race you’re will make you
get entry into the hall of fame or shame.
See, they smile and hail walking towards the jail!

What Races, Horse Races?
I see the different races,
But I don't really care,
The color of the skin,
Not really my affair.
I see the different races,
And never do I stare,
I hate the mental braces,
That we all know are there,
For me there are two races,
The Good and then the Bad,
There are good Human Beings,
Then others that abuse,
The Bad harm all our Races,
And don't do us much good.
We're all brothers and sisters,
It's written in the books,
It's better to be noble,
Than just a bunch of crooks.

If You Look For Evil
If you look for evil good you cannot see
For your eyes only tell you what they want you in others to see
Of good and bad races you keep telling me
But your opinions are different to mine we see things differently.
I've worked with those of different races and backgrounds and in truth I can say
That people as a whole are quite good in their own way
Of different beliefs and cultures but I found them to be okay
If you show respect for others respect to you they will pay.
When you start comparing races you I do not wish to hear
your ignorance on such matters only based on your fear
Of those you see as different to you difference you cannot embrace
'Tis wrong to condemn people because of their race.
If you are only looking for flaws in those who are different to you then flaws you will find
To the good that is in them you do become blind
In this multicultural World your thinking renders you as small
One must admire those who believe in a fair go for all.

0016 Amphibrach
A tinker, a tailor, a soldier, a sailor...
‘A one and a two and a three and a four, guys…’
The amphibrach sings one of poetry’s basics;
a metrical foot – though a difficult one; it
is named from the Greek, meaning short at
both ends – that is, short, long, short, short, long short;
a poet can use it like this for a few lines, or longer;
however, it always seems trying to be something
else – like, some poor donkey who’s lame in one hind-leg;
it’s happier changing to dactyl or ana-
pest – see what I mean, now?

Some Are All Too Willing
Some are all too willing for to generalize
Without even seeming for to realize
That they are being judgemental on a whole Race
For the crimes of one with them all are in disgrace.
Those who generalize can be racist as well
By the way they speak of others it is not hard to tell
That their latent racism they are struggling to hide
Of them racist tendencies cannot be denied.
That there's good and bad in every Race to all Races apply
And to say otherwise the truth one does deny
We only see in others what we wish to see
That is how it is and how 'twill always be.
Those who generalize and the racists in thinking are not far apart
Neither of them are blessed with a generous heart
In their ways of thinking they do seem so small
Long live the great truth on a 'fair go for all'

Then There Were None
Though it be
That life be short
In the eyes of history
In the eyes of the human race
It be long
Prosperous
Inspiring
Which one is correct?
History is incorruptible
From truth
And we live knowing
That at any moment
our long
prosperous
inspiring
could end
The human race be stagnant
persistent
We all end
But as we focus
On the moment comforts
That protect what we want now
Not the things that
Made us
Will end us

Too Late
The time has come for harvesting.
Long overdue; we are too late.
The human race is flourishing
they have discovered how to hate.
Warlike and belligerent.
They’re not the docile race we knew
By some genetic accident.
The human race evolved into
a race of high intelligence.
Which has advanced technologies
We daren’t deny the evidence
which is presented to our eyes.
Therefore we must tread carefully
they will not fear us any more.
They’ll look on us suspiciously
Not simply worship and adore.
As they had been conditioned to
when first we landed on this star
They saw us as their guardians
come to protect them from afar.
The fools accepted us as gods
to whom they must make sacrifice.
Now time has evened up the odds
we can not hope to fool them twice.
We should just leave. It would be wise.
erase all traces we have been.
Except for racial memories
we have no way of wiping clean.
I am afraid I must confess
of what the human race might do.
The rate at which they can progress
there seems to be no limit to.
Should they suspect that we exist
They will not rest until they know
and with research they will persist.
They simply will not let it go.
Though once they were inferior
I think they are our equals now
and will become superior.
If the laws of fate allow.
Our race grows old and decadent
Perhaps its time to leave the stage.
It seems to me quite apparent
the human race will now engage.
In doing what we used to do
Exploiting every race they find
because they feel entitled to
again like us they will be blind.
To the potentiality
which younger races might possess
in pursuit of their destiny.
The speed at which they make progress.
We’ve had our season in the sun
the human race will have theirs too.
It has been so since time begun
the old must give way to the new.

Race Of Veterans
RACE of veterans! Race of victors!
Race of the soil, ready for conflict! race of the conquering march!
(No more credulity's race, abiding-temper'd race;)
Race henceforth owning no law but the law of itself;
Race of passion and the storm.

Why Negroes Don't Unite
Why of all the many races in the country where we live,
Do we find so little union as the Negro race can give?
Is it lack of love? or color? who will give the reason true,
Why they cherish opposition more than other peoples do?
We'll examine for a moment, how the Negro race is made,
Now, we find them all complexions, any hue and ev'ry shade,
Scraps of all the human races in among them we can find,
All the many dispositions, ev'ry nation of its kind.
Ev'ry tribe will hang together, though among the Negroes found,
Which will bring about dissensions, on all questions that abound,
Ev'ry blood must have a 'say so,' red or yellow, white or black,
Differ always in opinion, racial union always lack.
Hark! the whites of this assembly to a special plan agree,
Lo! the red men now are holding their opinion, don't you see?
Aye, the blacks must have a hearing in the question of today,
Yellow folks compose a factor and the same will have a say.
Scripture tells how Ham was tickled by the shame of Noah's plight,
How his brothers with a mantle shielded Noah from the light,
Now we find that Ham's descendants keep disgraces well exposed,
While the children of the others keep a shameful secret closed.
From inheritance the Negro gets his levity and mirth,
More than any other species of the races of the earth,
He rejoices in reporting what will bring his neighbor shame,
Charity extends her mantle and the others cover blame.
When the race discards the fragments, by the others thrown aside,
And suppresses altogether sinful levity and pride,
Then begins a cultivation of a union of the race,
That will strengthen all its borders which for naught will yield apace.

Sonnet-Time
Time starts ticking, the moment one is born,
Appearing too short for things to be done;
And Time ceases when over is sojourn;
To some ’tis long and ’tis always great fun.
Time is so precious that some waste it not;
So they race ’gainst it, to pull off great feats;
Time is a web in which some men get caught;
However short, one still can be a Keats!
A Scientist’s life-time’s not enough for him;
A lazy-bone finds Time not fleeting still;
Time’s an empty vessel, tho’ filled to brim!
Time’s a feeling of descending the hill.
When prudently used then, Time appears long;
A mile to a fool is just a furlong.

Letter In Verse
Like boys that run behind the loaded wain
For the mere joy of riding back again,
When summer from the meadow carts the hay
And school hours leave them half a day to play;
So I with leisure on three sides a sheet
Of foolscap dance with poesy's measured feet,
Just to ride post upon the wings of time
And kill a care, to friendship turned in rhyme.
The muse's gallop hurries me in sport
With much to read and little to divert,
And I, amused, with less of wit than will,
Run till I tire.--And so to cheat her still.
Like children running races who shall be
First in to touch the orchard wall or tree,
The last half way behind, by distance vext,
Turns short, determined to be first the next;
So now the muse has run me hard and long--
I'll leave at once her races and her song;
And, turning round, laugh at the letter's close
And beat her out by ending it in prose.
