Hi Chaperone

You know, you know, you know you know you know
I can't go out alone
Hi chaperone, my chaperone
What you think is all wrong
'Cos you shouldn't treat a girl like a game of ping-pong
But I can't go out alone without a chaperone
Hi chaperone, my chaperone
You may say sweet dreams tonight
Blow me a kiss, well I guess that's alright, that's alright
I can't go out alone without a chaperone
Hi chaperone, my chaperone
You may say the streets are safe
In these modern days, but I'm not OK
I can't go out alone without a chaperone
Hi chaperone, my chaperone
I can't go out alone without a chaperone
Hi chaperone, my chaperone
Hi chaperone, my chaperone
Hi chaperone!
Hi chaperone! Hi chaperone! (repeat)

Chaperone

The old piano plays
John Strauss II's waltz
'The Blue Danube'
Under the dim chandelier lights
She dances alone an unmarried woman
Behind her a Charlatan struggles
to win her heart and breaks her innocence,
But the Chaperone, she looks after her well
And nobody could approach her
on this occasion!
I watch the Chaperone's
deep blue teary eyes like ripples
And I imagine her beautiful younger days?
Her secret smile utters
We both are passing the sad sixties
Isn't it?
It's really funny this old man peeps
into the dancing hall in his sugary dream
and the sepia glossy photograph fades away
at the dark room in the morning?

[For five blocks after I left home, I walked like a man with something to do, someplace to go- Takuboku Ishikawa/'Sad Toys]

Smouldering, Mysterious Type

Told my friend an anecdote* that made
us roll over in laughter, the troll rumbled
at the young man - It’s not right when a
lad is alone in a lady’s ‘boodwa’ - the lad
replied - It’s quite all right, I’m not alone,
she’s here with me’ -

My friend remarked she would not have
liked to have a chaperone all the time – I
thought about this – You and I would not
have noticed a chaperone; she would have
taken us into adventure and danger out of
pity for our boring lives

Since we are both the eternal wallflower
kind - we laughed even harder - what we
would give to become the smouldering,
mysterious type instead of being our-
selves, always worried about things
- to the point of suffocating -

My friend cannot forgive herself for saying
‘Heil Hitler’ to a Jewish lady teaching Spanish
dance when *she seemed to salute her; I still
feel a pain in my heart when I remember my
small daughter cried when I broke her magic
wand by accident

anecdote* = from “Moving Pictures, Terry Pratchett
‘Boodwa’ – boudoir
*she seemed to salute her = The lady made
Spanish dance movements that translated to
a Heil Hitler salute in Alet’s mind, all confused

Sisters, Sisters

Sisters, sisters
There were never such devoted sisters,
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir,
Im there to keep my eye on her
Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing
When a certain gentleman arrived from rome
She wore the dress, and I stayed home
All kinds of weather, we stick together
The same in the rain and sun
Two different faces, but in tight places
We think and we act as one
Those whove seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us
Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can
Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister
And lord help the sister, who comes between me and my man

Silent Fighting

don't know what to say
don't know what to talk about
don't know what to do
about me and you
I don't know what to think
I always feel time's running out
it's getting harder
harder to get a clue
even when we're quiet fighting
silent treatment on the street
still there's no doubt we're going home together
even when we're silent fighting
making a scene on the street
we'll be under the covers and out of the weather
I just can't tell the truth
always thinking 'bout leaving you
i'll be the captive
you'll be the captain
i'll be your chaperone
i'll book your first date now
been watching too much television
been thinking stupid thoughts
so confused about men and women
I just can't tell the truth
always thinking 'bout leaving you

The Albatross

Often to pass the time on board, the crew
will catch an albatross, one of those big birds
which nonchalently chaperone a ship
across the bitter fathoms of the sea.

Tied to the deck, this sovereign of space,
as if embarrassed by its clumsiness,
pitiably lets its great white wings
drag at its sides like a pair of unshipped oars.

How weak and awkward, even comical
this traveller but lately so adoit -
one deckhand sticks a pipestem in its beak,
another mocks the cripple that once flew!

The Poet is like this monarch of the clouds
riding the storm above the marksman's range;
exiled on the ground, hooted and jeered,
he cannot walk because of his great wings.

To my lost one (villanelle)

If you come from a unknown place
from where I am, as if thrown
into my life and we again meet face-to-face

it may be by God’s grace
and we may leave the paths well trodden and known.
If you come from a unknown place

wherever it may be, carrying just one suitcase
I will be happy to meet you, if you come alone
into my life and we again meet face-to-face

and if you want to, we can disappear without a trace
be on our own, without anyone.
If you come from a unknown place

and walk into my embrace,
my lost one, come without a chaperone
into my life and we again meet face-to-face

our pasts will be erased
and all unhappiness will be gone,
if you come from a unknown place
into my life and we again meet face-to-face.

Arent You Kind Of Glad We Did?

Oh, it really wasnt my intention
To disregard convention
It was just an impulse
That had to be obeyed.
Though it seems convention weve been scorning
Ill still not go in mourning
Though my reputation
Is blemished, Im afraid.
With just one kiss
What heaven, what rapture, what bliss
Honestly, I thought you wouldnt.
Naturally, you thought you couldnt.
And probably we shouldnt.
But arent you kind of glad we did?
Actually, it all was blameless.
Nevertheless, theyll call it shameless
So lets keep the lady nameless
But arent you kind of glad we did?
Socially, Ill be an outcast
Obviously, we dined alone
On my good name there will be doubt cast
With never a sign of any chaperone.
No matter how they may construe it
Whether or not, we have to rue it
Whatever made us do it
Say, arent you kind of glad we did?
(instrumental bridge)
Whatever made us do it
Say, arent you kind of glad we did?

Accidents Will Happen

Oh I just dont know where to begin
Though he says hell wait forever
Its now or never
But she keeps him hanging on
The silly champion
She says she cant go home
Without a chaperone
Accidents will happen
We only hit and run
He used to be your victim
Now youre not the only one
Accidents will happen
We only hit and run
I dont want to hear it
cause I know what Ive done
Theres so many fish in the sea
That only rise up in the sweat and smoke like mercury
But they keep you hanging on
They say youre so young
Your mind is made up but your mouth is undone
(chorus)
And its the damage that we do
And never know
Its the words that we dont say
That scare me so
Theres so many people to see
So many people you can check up on
And add to your collection
But they keep you hanging on
Until youre well hung
Your mouth is made up but your mind is undone
(chorus)
I know, I know, (repeat)

You are not for me

He is the man with the boyish grin
And the naughty glint in his dark eyes
The one with the dimpled cheeks
And stubborn chin
Yes he is the one who stole my heart
How dashing he looks in his tuxedo tonight

His eyes searching mine
The sudden stubborn hardness of his jaw
Whispering to the beauty at his side
The harsh words with which we parted
He called me a whore
For unwanted attention received
Roses and bouquets thrown at my feet
Still he is the one with a different partner every night

I stand proud for I'm not of his kind
For I love who I am
Who needs a man like that after all?
Men, they're just a waste of time
For now I will enjoy walking the ramps
‘Coz I'm still young
Have the world at my feet
And Aunty May as my chaperone

Dashing as he is
I would much prefer someone who is humble and kind
For now I am contented and at peace
With whom I have become

Silly Game

I never thought u would be the one
That Id wanna run 2
I never thought u would be the one
That would make me care
And even tho u done me wrong
4 some strange reason I cant xplain
I get happy knowing u phoned
Cuz your voice could kill my every pain
Why do we play this silly game?
I never thought u would be the one
That Id wanna give 2
A diamond ring, anything that u ask me 2
But there u were, bragging 2 your friends
Making up a story thats so lame
That I was down 2 be your sugardaddy
One way ticket to ghetto fame
Why do we play this silly game?
Every other night u werent at home
Out in the streets, just acting grown
Never with a bodyguard or chaperone
Then I hear a rumour that breaks my heart
Instead of taking care of yourself
Ure tearing yourself apart
Now why u wanna
(why u wanna, why u wanna ...)
Now why u wanna go and do that, love?
Why do we play this silly game?
I never thought u would be the one
(that Id wanna run 2) that Id wanna run 2
I never thought ud be the one
That would make me care
No matter how far I run
Ill never be the same (Ill never be the same)
In the end, in the end, theres only us 2 blame
Why do we play this ...
Why do we play this silly ...
Why do we play this silly game?
Yeah
Ooh-ooh
Tell me why? (tell me why? )
Oh why? (oh why? )
Oh why - why?
Why do we play this silly game?
Game

(rod stewart / jim cregan)
Is it a matter of opinion
Or just a contradiction
But from where I come from
All the blondes have more fun
Well just awatch them sisters on a saturday night
Peroxide causin all the fights
I took a rose in texas
She gimme plenty of practice
But I couldnt touch the surface
cos of recent facelift
She had no idea what loves about
cept the one oclock call on the casting couch
Sissy from new york
Was on the cover of new vogue
I aint supposed to be available
So completely untouchable
I got a limousine n bodyguard and chaperone
But God knows rodder just needs to ball
You can keep your black and your red heads
You can keep your brunettes too
I wanna girl thats semi intelligent
Gimme a blonde thats six feet two boy
And that aint all
I had a crush on bardot
Fell in love with monroe
Read about em in the nationals
All the juicy little scandals
But I never saw em dancin at the county hall
With the short fat guys prematurely bald
Dig this
You can keep your black and your red heads
You can keep your brunettes too
Dont wanna subservient woman
Gimme a blonde thats six feet two boy

Extraordinary Machine

I certainly haven't been shopping for any new shoes
And I certainly haven't been spreading myself around
I still only travel by foot and by foot it's a slow climb
But I'm good at being uncomfortable so I can't stop changing all the time
I noticed that my opponent is always on the go
And won't go slow so as not to focus and I notice
He'll hitch a ride with any guide as long as they go fast from whence he came
But he's no good at being uncomfortable so he can't stop staying exactly the same
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I make the most of it I'm an extraordinary machine
I seem to you to seek a new disaster every day
You deem me due to clean my view and be at peace and lay
I mean to prove I mean to move in my own way
And say I've been getting along for long before you came into the play
I am the baby of the family
It happens so everybody cares
And wears the sheeps clothes while they chaperone
Furious you're looking down your nose at me while you appease
Courteous to try and help but let me set your mind at ease
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I make the most of it I'm an extraordinary machine
Do I so worry you?
You need to hurry to my side? Its very kind
But it's to no avail
I don't want the veil or flowers
No everything will be just fine
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I make the most of it I'm an extraordinary machine

Talked Myself Right Into It

(johnny vanzant -- robert white johnson -- donnie vanzant -- pat buchanan)
Alarm clock rings about a quarter after five
Ive been up all night
Raisin hell with some friends of mine
I take one good look in the mirror
But only one things gettin clearer
The way I live, Im lucky to be alive
There I go lying to myself
Said I wasnt gonna do it
Next thing you know, here I go again
Talked myself right into it
Supposed to be to work an hour ago
When I pass that boss stormin down the road
Now theres an angel on my shoulder
Thinnkin she can win me over
Devils got my number dont you know
There I go lying to myself
Said I wasnt gonna do it
Next thing you know, here I go again
Talked myself right into it
Maybe, maybe have I gone to far this time
Maybe, maybe is my conscience workin overtime
Nah
Theres a knockout georgia peach givin me the eye
Well if the truth beknown Im just a little shy
Turns out she wasnt alone
She had a six foot chaperone
But that didnt slow me down
Dont ask me why
There I go lying to myself
Said I wasnt gonna do it
Next thing you know, here I go again
Talked myself right into it
I got no one to blame except myself
I said I wasnt gonna do it
Next thing you know here I go
Talk myself right into it
Talk myself, talk myself right into it
Talk myself, talk myself, talk myself right into it
Said I wasnt gonna do it
Here I go again baby

Gun Turned On The World

Youre walkin round like a doll without a head
You should be thinking bout how to give your love instead
Ive seen you lying and cheating your way
Then you complain about what all of your friends say
You shoot your mouth like you damn well own the world
We always have to keep our little white flags unfurled
Just try to finish the things that you start
Stop thinking with your fists
And start thinking with your heart
Oh cant you see
Oh what you could be now
You never listen to me
Oh youre like a gun turned on the world
Things have to be attempted one step at a time
You got to take that poison from your eyes
You know the lights are going out in your life
Your killing yourself with your own knife
Oh cant you see
Oh what you could be now
You never listen to me
Oh youre like a gun turned on the world
You dont want a love you need a chaperone
You want a first-class alibi
You bore the pants off people on the telephone
People are sick of your lies
You better open your eyes
Youre like a gun turned on the world, like a gun
Youre takin one step forward then two steps back
Friendly advice gets treated like a heart attack
You can drown in the shallow water of hate
Get the sense before its too late now
Oh cant you see
Oh what you could be now
You never listen to me
Oh youre like a gun turned on the world
Oh cant you see
Oh what you could be now
You never listen to me
Oh youre like a gun turned on the world

A-when you took the fall
And then you floated down
And then you took the jump
And you fell through clouds
Yeah then you watched the world
Beat the crowd
Come on ride me high
(stranger eyes)
A-well a-ride me high
(stranger eyes)
Yeah you took the fall
And then you landed soft
You thought to yourself
Oo well Im not alone
You with your dark red soul
And your chaperone
Come on ride me high
(stranger eyes)
Wont you ride me high
(stranger eyes)
Come on ride me high
(stranger eyes)
Ride me high
(danger [? ] stranger eyes)
Stranger eyes
Oo well I need your touch
That means so much
Oo well I need your touch
Cause it means so much
A-ride me high

Ride me high
