I Thought I Held You
You're like a moon that's full,
Across a sea of foam
I'm the sky you've been burning
I don't think you even understand
I thought I held you by the hand
I thought I held you
I'm like a songwriter;
You're the reason I've run out,
Run out of metaphors
I don't think you even understand
I thought I held you by the hand
I thought I held you
I thought I held you

Hold On
I was doomed riding on top a black horse.
Whatever prize there was I could only observe where the troubles starts.
Where does it end?
I cannot be cured...mmm...but if...
I know life would be different if I held on, held on.
I know I could be something if I held on.
Gave her life away. Put it in my pocket when it should've been framed.
Oh lost it's shine. Gotta' get this out of my head, out of my head.
How could it end...end like this?
I could've been...
I know life would be different had I held on, held on.
I know I could've been something had I held on, held on.
I know I could be something if I held on, held on.
I know life would be different if I held on, held on.
Held on, held on, if I held on, held on, if I held on, held on, if I held on.

Do you know the secret hand shake - you best use it.
Here they come with ringing ears - social misfits.
Someone has got to go
just thought you should know and so it had to be
the one who held the key.
Check the time T-5 and you're still looking.
Too good to be true - so what's the secret.
Someone has got to go
just thought you should know and so it had to be
the one who held the key.

The Rose
In my hand I held the rose
As I would a woman dear,
Within my fingers I held it tight
As I wished it would not disappear.
From the touch, sight and beauty that I knew,
When the kiss of beauty, once had blew.
I held the rose as I would a love
As I had held in memory and thought,
And then the rose I could not let go
For the same as a lover, she became my soul.
The stem became the body and the petals became the skin,
Then I held her lightly, within the wind.
The rose held me, as I had held her
The two of us had become one
Then the act of God had prevailed that day
For he commanded the wind to take the rose away.
And towards the heavens She had flew,
As though to join the love that I once had knew.
In my hand there laid a thorn
Though to remind me of the sting of death,
So upon the Earth, I then laid the thorn
So love of life could again be reborn.
I buried the thorn as you would a dream,
Knowing never again, will it be seen.

Let You Know
I just thought that I'd let you know
That although I'm far
I'm close to you within
And all the time spent by your side
Is taken deep in me
Held for me to keep
To look upon when I'm feeling like
Everything and one
Is hurting me for something or other
It takes me to a better place
Nowhere I'd rather go
Thought I'd let you know
Who you are
What you do
Makes me burn to be in you
Who you are
And what you do
I'm burning to be in you
I just thought that I'd let you know
Being near you is
A gift I only wish I could treasure
But for now I'll sit and wait
I'm still burning though
Thought I'd let you know
Who you are
What you do
Makes me burn to be in you
Who you are
What you do
I'm burning to be in you
Thought I'd let you know
Feels like I'm falling
I'm all on my own
Thought I'd let you know
It feels like I'm falling
I'm all on my own
Thought I'd let you know
Who you are
And what you do
Makes me burn to be in you
Who you are
And what you do
I'm burning to be in you

So Glad
I had laid some mighty plans,
Thought I held them in my hands.
Then my world began to crumble all away.
I tried to build it back again;
I couldnt bear to see it end,
How it hurt to know you wanted it that way.
And Im so glad,
Glad to find the reason,
That Im happy-sad
That youve torn it all away,
And Im so glad,
Though it hurts to know Im leaving
Everything I ever thought that I would be.
Once I held it in my hand.
It was a kingdom made of sand.
But now youve blown it all away.
I cant believe that I can say,
That Im glad.
Long before my plans were made,
I know a master plan was laid,
With a power that superseded my control.
And if that truth could pierce my heart,
I wouldnt wander from the start,
Trying desperately to make it on my own.
And Im so glad,
Glad to find the reason,
That Im happy-sad
That youve torn it all away,
And Im so glad,
Though it hurts to know Im leaving
Everything I ever thought that I would be.
Once I held it in my hand.
It was a kingdom made of sand.
But now youve blown it all away.
I cant believe that I can say,
That Im glad.
So glad.
Oh, Im so glad.
So glad....
Oh, Im so glad....
Yes, Im glad....
So very, very glad....
La la la....
La la la....
La, la la, la la, la la, la la....
Da da da....

The Touch Of Your Hand
On the day that you were born
I touched your hand so chubby and warm.
I touched your hand when you were one
and helped you walk my beautiful son.
I held your hand when you were two.
We ran, your favorite thing to do.
I held your hand when you were three
as you climbed on my lap and smiled at me.
I touched your hand when you were four
as the ocean touched our toes at the shore.
I touched your hand when you were five
walking you to school but when we'd arrive
I felt the tug of your hand from mine
and I knew that we had crossed a line.
I looked at you and released your hand
and said'it's okay I understand.'
As I walked back home I cried some tears
thinking of all our hand holding years.
Holding your hand became sporadic now,
when you were feverish or I felt your brow.
I held your hand a few times as a teen
but always alone so it wouldn't be seen.
I held your hand after you said, 'I do.'
We danced together just me and you.
After some years went by my son
you held the hand of your little one.
And so the times of your life turn around
and now that my hand is old I've found
you take my hand and help me walk
and as you do we intimately talk.
And it takes me back to that bright early morn
when I held your hand so chubby and warm.

Then I Met You
Then I met you
Thought that Id be happy
Going to be so happy
Living life alone and never sharing anything
Thought that I was finished
Thought that I was complete
Thought that I was whole instead of being half of something
Thought that I was growing
Growing older, wiser
Understanding why this world held nothing for my spirit
Thought that I was destined
Destined to be nothing
Destined to be nothing in this world and then I met you.
I met you
Thought that God had failed me
Thought my prayers were useless
Thought that he would never give the chance for me to praise him
Thought the book was written
Thought the game had ended
Thought the song was sung and I could never sing another
Thought my faith was misplaced
Thought my back was broken
Broken by a weight that I was never fit to carry
Thought I knew this city
Thought I knew all about it
And then one night I went to morningside and you were waiting
I met you

Held Up With Just A Stick
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick,
It seems...
Held up with just a stick,
One's head...
Held up with just a stick,
Their arms and their legs...
Needing to be fed.
And...
Held up with just a stick,
One's pride...
Held up with just a stick,
Two eyes and two ears...
Living poverty so near,
To...
Famish it is clear.
And...
Held up with just a stick,
Hunger.
Held up with just a stick,
Life!
Held up with just a stick,
Blight!
And those who fight death in their sight.
Held up with just a stick,
Life!
Held up with just a stick,
Pride!
Held up with just a stick,
Blight!
And those who fight death in their sight.
Held up with just a stick,
And...
There's no benefit to it.
Held up with just a stick,
Life!
Held up with just a stick,
Pride!
Held up with just a stick,
Blight!
And living this is NOT a gift.
Held up with just a stick,
And...
There's no benefit to it.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.

Looking for Encouragement in ICU
He's gone
I never saw him go
Surprised that he fell
I thought he would get up
At first he looked like he'd be OK
He was upset that he'd slipped
Confused that the legs hadn't held
The strength that steadied
The foot and braced the legs
Held at the smoker in 1932
When three solid lefts
Couldn't take him down
Held when the Hammond trim saw kicked
Held on the wet rocks of Redwood Creek
When the salmon jumped and were on
Held splitting a second cord of wood
While after loading the first
I thought I needed a break
Now when he needed it most
They didn't hold they gave
Yet he somehow still held on
Over the ledge I could see him there
He was pulling himself up
Or at least I wanted him to
I tried to talk to him
I got his attention
He silently shook his head
The same as when we hunted
When I thought I had a clear shot
And he knew I didn't
He always challenged me
No matter what I did
To be a better shot
'We're not out here to wound
Chase down a revine then
Drag bloodshoot venison through the brush.
We're out here to put meat on the table.'
He also knew when to fish
And where the quail hid
He always encouraged me
To know what I was doing
Before I did it
'Its real important you learn
The difference between your ass
And a hole in the ground.'
Was his way
Of putting it
I knew what he meant
Shaking his head I recognized his signal
I still wanted to help even though
I couldn't have gotten to him anyway
Then he stopped trying
The strength and gruffness were gone
I was mad at him
For the tears in his eyes
For not trying
For knowing more than me
He knew there was no way up
The others calling to him
Were of no use
I knew then what he wanted
To push away from the side
To be over and done with it
He was caught tangled held back
He couldn't even let go
When he wanted to
I looked and he was there
I couldn't help
I didn't want to watch
I looked again
He was gone
I never saw him go

If Only
(wayland holyfield, amy sky)
If only Id have thought to send you roses
For no reason just to send you roses
And if only I thought to say more often I love you
But I just assumed you knew
Chorus:
And if only Id have tried a little harder
If only wed have talked a little more
If only Id have held you closer
Then maybe Id be holding you tonight
If only you, if only i
The saddest words are not goodbye
Theyre if only
If only we hadnt just pretended there was nothing wrong
It might not have ended
If only wed have given more attention
To the small things
We might have it all today
Repeat chorus
Instead of silence
Thered been angry words
If we had only listened
We just might have held our hearts
Repeat chorus

My Castle In The Sand
I held on tightly to my child
Tightly i held on
The waves were crashing overhead
But still i did hold on.
The waters drove us up the street
Past where friends and i would meet
Dashing down their houses
And leaving not much there
But i held yes i held on
And on my lips there was a prayer
That these torrents would not make me weak
That somehow i would find
Some calm some peace some easiness
And the earthquake left behind
I held on god i held on
To that tender little hand
She was now my sole ambition
And my castle in the sand.
I caught my breath
A hundred times
A hundred times or more
All that i was grasping was
Her clothes and nothing more.

Lorena
it lay in my palm soft and trembled
as a new bird and i thought about
authority and how it always insisted
on itself, how it was master
of the man, how it measured him, never
was ignored or denied, and how it promised
there would be sweetness if it was obeyed
just like the saints do, like the angels
and i opened the window and held out my
uncupped hand; i swear to god
i thought it could fly

The Dying God
What is this god we behold?
His worship; Justice, in awe we hold.
With almighty hand he rules, weighbridge firmly held,
On which each soul is gauged.
The acted, the spoken, the thought.
I understand not, what he entails,
If god he is, he surely should know
An icon abused, a resolve beaten,
a title tarnished, a god defiled;
Is all I see, of a god once boundless.
Your enemy dear god, is winning.
A giant hand lingers around me, with black harsh skin and murky long nails,
It presses against my nose, and i wheeze,
“god of justice, are you blind to see?
almighty hand with a weighbridge held, are you there to save?
Articulate silence replies.
A smell of futility, a touch of anger, a rhythm of resentment, a taste of revenge,
A heart too heavy, to wait for a dying god.

The Thought
Into the skies, one summer's day,
I sent a little Thought away;
Up to where, in the blue round,
The sun sat shining without sound.
Then my Thought came back to me.—
Little Thought, what did you see
In the regions whence you come?
And when I spoke, my Thought was dumb.
But she breathed of what was there,
In the pure bright upper air;
And, because my Thought so shone,
I knew she had been shone upon.
Next, by night a Thought I sent
Up into the firmament;
When the eager stars were out,
And the still moon shone about.
And my Thought went past the moon
In between the stars, but soon
Held her breath and durst not stir,
For the fear that covered her;
Then she thought, in this demur:
'Dare I look beneath the shade,
Into where the worlds are made;
Where the suns and stars are wrought?
Shall I meet another Thought?
'Will that other Thought have wings?
Shall I meet strange, heavenly things?
Thought of Thoughts, and Light of Lights,
Breath of Breaths, and Night of Nights?'
Then my Thought began to hark
In the illuminated dark,
Till the silence, over, under,
Made her heart beat more than thunder.
And my Thought, came trembling back,
But with something on her track,
And with something at her side;
Nor till she has lived and died,
Lived and died, and lived again,
Will that awful thing seem plain.

Acting As If Having An Intelligence
It took me awhile,
To understand those...
Who saw life in denial.
But as I thought about them...
And being mentally conditioned myself,
To accept limitations...
With an acting as if having an intelligence,
Would actually offend others?
I completely understand now,
Why so many accept staying ignorant.
Trying to impress with a thought process offends.
You see...
This is what I've come to understand,
Life becomes less challenging...
When those 'known' to be ignorant,
Are not held accountable for their actions.
And those who are labelled 'intelligent'...
Are expected to be responsible AND accountable,
For 'everything' those who choose to see life in denial...
With the doing of the most 'stupidest' things to be excused.

Call It Destiny
As I sit at home in my chair
I think of her as she's not there
Remembering the talks that we once held
As we thought of no one, but only ourselves.
For a moment as though we were just one
Then that moment disappeared and that feeling gone.
We smiled and laughed as we sat and talked
So we decided together, to go for a walk.
As I walked around a local park
Am all alone now and it's after dark
I think of memories that once had been
But now they are gone, as though never seen.
I think of her as she had held my arm
But that was yesterday and that was the charm
We walked not knowing if we were lovers or friends
Wished I knew the beginning, and not the end.
As I reached out to touch a star
As though to hold it from afar
I close my eyes with an opened hand
Then once again I finally understand.
You are not here but your in my sight
Not just in the daytime but also the night
As in my heart, there you will always be
You can call it love, but I call it destiny.

Held In The Heart
What can be held in the hand
Is not as inportant
As what is held in the heart
For things held in the heart
Can be only lost by you
For you are the only one
That has the power of
Letting go

Reunited
When I received a letter from my Dad,
Saying he didn't want to meet,
I decided to go and confront him.
I wasn't going to admit defeat.
'I told you in my letter not to come.
I thought I made that perfectly clear!
It would never work. I don't even know you, '
Were not the words I'd hoped to hear.
'It's too late, ' he told me.
'You've got your life. I've got mine.'
He was shocked when I told him
I'd lost my Mum in an accident when I was nine.
My brother, Luke, asked me to stay in touch.
He was begging me to stay,
But there seemed nothing between me and Dad,
And I thought it best for me to go away.
When I was small, we went for walks.
It was always Dad's hand I wanted to hold.
It kept me from falling.
It kept me from the cold.
I was sitting in the car ready to leave,
But took one last look out the window.
Dad was stood there. I went to him.
'Don't go, ' he pleaded. 'Please, don't go! '
As he held my hand in his
For the first time in thirty years,
I found it totally impossible
To hold back the flood of tears.
I put my head on his shoulder,
And we held each other tight.
This was the moment I'd dreamed of,
And now I was convinced the moment was right.
