High Spirits
This is an instrumental done with the Chieftains, in three sections. The first is up-tempo, a jig; the shorter second features Celtic chants by the Chieftains; the third slows the pace a bit and has Van doing a few da-da-das. The three sections are repeated, then parts 1 & 2 are done a third time before a fadeout of chants.

If I produce it, I will stage it as a performance. A small audience will be invited; rehearsals of the sections will be done in the mornings, and those sections will be recorded in the afternoons.

I did quite a lot of the arranging, fitting different sections together, tempo changes, all sorts of things like that. I actually acted as a bridge between Robert and Ian. Not so much composing, rather presenting musical ideas at each rehearsal.

A Window Paned Like A Person
a window paned
is like a person
divided up sections
closed off sections
separate
compartments
sealed
clear glass emotions
suffering clear seen
behind walls not hidden
pertained putty
applied sealants
sectioned glass
fixing broken

A Day Without Rain
Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...
And who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...
(chants)
Who can say why your heart sighs,
As your love flies?
Only time...
And who can say why your heart cries,
When your love dies?
Only time...
(chants)
Who can say when the roads meet,
That love might be,
In your heart.
And who can say when the day sleeps,
The moon still keeps on moving
If the night keeps all your heart?
Night keeps all your heart...
(extended chants)
Who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...
And who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...
Who knows?
Only time...
Who knows?
Only time...

Last Descending Overtones
With each descending step I hear the beat
of sacrificial chants of those who know.
The stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.
The pungent smell is damp and bittersweet.
Within these halls the music seems to flow,
with each descending step I hear the beat.
The altar room is secret and discrete,
with eerie chants that truly seem to grow.
The stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.
Author notes -

My wrists are bound, a feeling of defeat,
a severed heart to feed the gods libido.
With each descending step I hear the beat.
My time has come this act will not repeat,
I hear the chants and see the lamps aglow.
The stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.
My heart becomes the sacrificial meat
as now my life approaches its crescendo.
With each descending step I hear the beat,
the stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.

Chant
We cant turn back the clock
But we can chant for love
Lets cut the idle talk so we can
Chant for love
We always have the time to quarrel
About such problems as money and war
Lets put it off until tomorrow
Who needs another dose of sorrow?
It dont necessitate an act of faith
To chant for love
What alibi is strong enough to wait
To chant for love
Though we dont hold the reigns of power
Somebody else seems to be in control
We mustnt waste another hour
Well get directly to the soul
If we can
Chant
For a world united
Chant
For a world thats dying for love
The hare krishna plays a drum and bell
When he chants for love
The tribal priest is afraid of hell
So he chants for love
I am not pushing some religion
Dont get me wrong,
I never mess with such things
Just be true to your own vision
This is your personal decision
The dervish spins to a hu hu hu
When he chants for love
Nobody knows what the angels do
When they chant for love
Youre at the bottom of the ladder
Someone may try to tell you where you should start
But the words, they never matter
If you can feel it in your heart
Then you can
Why dont you chant?
You can chant
Chant, chant, chant ...

Walk in Beauty
Walk in Beauty
Walk in beauty when you are young
Walk in beauty as you grow wise
when the balance of life is upset
the hataalii~medicine man reverently
prepares a painting with many colored sand
of Mother Earth
he chants as the Sun appears
he chants to call the good spirits
whose presence is near
in the Hogan the cure will be made
with the aid of the Holy Ones
the sickness falls away
and once again the healed one will
Walk in Beauty

Fadeout 1930
Fadeout 1930 era
I never really tried you out
But all my friends who used to be
Just never had the time for me
You can change your colours
Ill just change my point of view
Ill live a lie to prove my point
Or Ill turn all my thought to you
Fadeout 1930
Keep a low profile
Strange how it gets around
Out of sight, out of mind
I look through me, Im out of mine
Everything I say, Ive heard
And nothings mine except my wall
Do you being (begin? ) to see
There really is no me at all
Fadeout 1930
Please dont feel scared
Nothings ever quite what it seems
I hope the sadness doesnt show
For I still cling to some old dreams
Private thoughts just to you
My head liked private ways
Ive never tried so hard before
Ive really nothing left to say
Fadeout 1930
