Days of God
Because I’m not a man with children,
I have to gaze down lonely roads
And expect one day to cease my existence alone.
I can only hope I’ve planted flowers bright and yellow
That will long flirt with the sun after I’m gone,
After heaven has invited me in or sent me moving on.
I have sung sad songs to the rhythm of dawn showers,
I have told frightened strangers that life is beautiful and sweet,
I have kissed gentle people with kind hearts
And have opposed cruel words and evil deeds.
I accept my spiritual destiny without complaints;
Even in darkness, these are days of God.
