Pinning Our Hearts

Swift sudden events
pinning our hearts
to the nailed wall.

Fate may return
thrown boomerang
to skilled hand
of primeval hunter;

but flung darts,
squashing experiences,
are an inheritance;

worn upon the soul,
a rich necklace
experiential wisdom,
best shaman worn

so that children may learn,
from the light of wisdom;
purchased at such great cost.

Shaman heal souls
strengthen society
sing songs restore
ecological balance.

Shaman confront
spiritual infirmity
banish infectious

spirit oppose
dark demons
stalkers of night.

Inspired by the poem ‘A game of darts and a game of squash’ by Miroslava Odalovic.
