The Song One Sings In Old Age

The song one sings in old age
Is a quieter song-
It has more sadness in it,
And more remembrance.

It knows the greatest lyric of love
Will never be in it again.
The Ecstasy of he greatest passion is beyond it-

The song one sings in old age
Has a kind of Tenderness and Kindness in it
It loves nothing more than small and gentle dreams;
And grandchildren.

It goes along consoled
At hearing itself
And yet somehow different and lost-

For the song of old age
Has heard many songs
Which will be sung no more-

And in listening feels
It soon will be singing
Its last and saddest song.
