Lasting attributes

You may get respect for the sword you have;
You must get respect for the trust you show.
You may get friends for the wallet you have;
You must get friends for the concern you show.
You may get love for the skin you have;
You must get love for the virtue you have.
You may have pride for the throne you secured;
You must have pride for the trodden rescued.

Cultivate such attributes as would last
