Penumbral Grace

partial shadow
between regions of full shadow
(the umbra)

umba! umba! umba!
umba! umba! umba!

and full illumination,
cast by Earth,
the Moon,
during an eclipse.

caramba! caramba! caramba!
caramba! caramba! caramba!

partial lunar eclipse,
a portion of the Moon's disk
remaining within the
penumbra of Earth's shadow

the rest is darkened
by the umbra
grayish outer part

a sunspot.
Compare

umbra! umbra! umbra!
umbra! umbra! umbra!
umbra! umbra! umbra!
umbra! umbra! umbra!

shower me the grace
of your Umbra Oh Lord!
